Registration Information Program information including: dates, times, locations, and ages are included in this guide. There are three ways to register; on-line, by telephone, and in person.

We accept, cash, cheque, debit, and credit card.

Due to COVID-19 programs may be adjusted to accommodate for rules and regulations.

There is also a possibility that some programs may be cancelled. We appreciate your understanding and support during this period of uncertainty.

Register On-line On-line registration can be found on our website at www.martensville.ca, look for the ‘Program Registrations’ button near the bottom of the page. In person and phone registration will take place at the Martensville Athletic Pavilion. We are located at 200 Mike Sands Boulevard and our number is 306-683-5576.

Hours of operation for August are Monday-Friday 8:00am-9:00pm and Saturday and Sunday 9:00am-6:00pm. Regular hours begin September 1st and are Monday-Friday 7:00am-10:00pm and Saturday and Sunday 8:00am-9:00pm. All registration fees must be paid in full when registering. We accept cash, cheque, debit, and credit card.

Refund Policy • • • • •

A refund request that is received ten (10) days prior to the start of course will receive a 100% refund. No reason shall be required.

A refund request received within 10 days of the course starting or once the course has commenced, and no more than 20% of the course is complete will receive a 50% refund.

After 20% of any course has been completed no refund shall be issued.

100% refund will be issued if the program is cancelled by the Recreation & Community Services Department.

A pro-rated refund will be issued under the following circumstances; - Medical reasons, a medical certificate will be required.

- Program class cancellations, where classes cannot be made up.

KidSport

TM

What is it?

KidSport is a children’s charity dedicated to assisting children and families facing financial obstacles with the opportunity to participate in community sport programs. The primary goal of Kidsport is for ALL kids to play and have fun!

How Does the Program Work?

Individual grants of up to $750 are available per calendar year for children or youth up to the age of 18.

Application forms for KidSport are available at the MAP. How Can YOU Help?

Support Kidsport through purchasing raffle tickets, attending events, purchasing cut outs or simply making a donation. Tax receipts are provided for any donation over $25.00 100% of donations and fundraising proceeds support children right here in Martensville.

In 2019 Martensville Kidsport received over 45 applications totalling over $20,000. Each year we see an increase in the mount of applications and unfortunately we have not been able to fully fund all applications. Please support Martensville Kidsport this year so ALL kids can play!!

Jumpstart Help kids learn new skills, build confidence, and boost their self-esteem. Every dollar of your donation helps them get into the game. Jumpstart is a community based charitable organization that helps kids in need participate in organized recreational activities. This program will also help to fund equipment costs.

Application forms for Jumpstart are available at the MAP.

Intercommunity Development Group The Intercommunity Development Group consist of members from Martensville, Warman, Osler, Dalmeny, and Langham. The primary focus is to raise funds for children who wish to participate in arts, culture, drama, or recreation not covered by Kidsport or Jumpstart.

2021 Sask. Lotteries The purpose of the Sask. Lotteries Community Grant program is to provide funds to local, non-profit and volunteer-based organizations whose sole purpose is to provide programs and services in the sport, culture, or recreation sector. Submissions for the 2021 year will be accepted starting in January. Your project or event must take place between April 1st, 2020 and Mar. 31st, 2021.

Recreation Membership & Program Accessibility This program will offer a discounted rate on yearly recreation facility memberships at the MAP and city operated leisure programs for families and individuals whose income is below a certain level.

The discounted membership will be 50% off the original price of a yearly membership at the Martensville Athletic Pavilion. The discounted leisure program registration will be 80% off the original price of the city offered leisure program, up to a maximum of $200 per family member per year.

Families or individuals looking to apply for this program must complete the application form and provide all required documents. All information on the forms provided by the participants will be strictly confidential. Applications are available at City Hall and the MAP. This program is only for City of Martensville residents.

Toddler Programs Cake Decorating Workshops

Sportball for Toddlers

Make fun decorated cupcakes and take them home to share! Yum! A decorating class just for kids! All supplies are included. Sign up early because space is limited!

Ages 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Toddlers and parents focus on physical movement and social exploration through an introduction of a different sport each class using developmentally appropriate games and activities. This is a parented class. Each child attends this program with ONE parent or guardian. Visit www.sportball.ca for more information on this amazing program.

Learn to Skate Teaching basic skating skills through games, circuits, and creative expression will get your child up and gliding across that ice in no time!

Mini Moves An activity-based program that teaches physical literacy and social skills for pre-school children through action songs, games, and activities. They will enjoy balls, parachutes, and imagination.

Parent & Tot Skate An opportunity for you to come out and teach your toddler to skate. There is no charge, just come out and have some fun with your little one.

Sportball for Pre-schoolers This provides children with an opportunity for independent learning and autonomy among other social and developmental benefits. Our trained and certified coaches introduce pre-school and elementary children to the fundamental skills behind 9 popular sports. THIS IS A DROP-OFF PROGRAM. Rhythmic Gymnastics Rhythmic Gymnastics is a combination of gymnastics and dance movements using hand apparatuses such as balls, ribbons, streamers, and hoops. Gymnasts develop coordination, balance, rhythm and teamwork in a fun and creative environment. Beginners of all ages are welcome!

Art Classes - Beginner This class will be an exploration of art and an introduction to different mediums. Each child will learn techniques with pencil, charcoal, pastels and acrylic paint. We will spend two weeks on each art form and complete a piece of art to take home. Students can pick from pictures provided to create their masterpieces!

Each student will receive individual help to advance their abilities as they work on their artwork. Join us for some fun!

Art Classes Sculpting Come explore the many different types of sculpture! This beginner class for youth and adults is a great way to work with your hands, get dirty and have fun learning a new skill. We will explore different techniques and tools with paper, clay and wire, and create several pieces to take home!

Youth Programs Babysitters Course

Basketball Summer Camp

One of our most popular and famous programs! This course is packed full of advice, guides, tips, and information based on real life experiences, from kids and experts in the know. The Babysitter’s Training program has tons of activities to increase student confidence and provide skills needed to be the best babysitter possible. This course is 7 hours long so please send a lunch.

Get ready for the upcoming season with personalized fundamental skill work and development. Improve on your skills and learn new ones at our Next Level Hoops Summer Camp at the MAP. The Basketball Camp will be run by experienced coach Laura Dally.

Ball Hockey The sport of ball hockey is a sport anyone can enjoy. Regardless, if you are a high-level ice hockey player or have never strapped on the blades, this sport is for you. During this program your children will learn passing, shooting, stick handling, and teamwork through drills, activities, and games. A Game for Everyone!

Basketball – Mini Dunkers We are very excited to continue working alongside Warman to offer an exciting basketball program for all ages. During this program players will develop a love for basketball, skill development, and lifelong friendships in a fun recreational way. Grades K – 2 will practice in Martensville and play in Martensville and Warman.

Basketball - SMBA All registrations for the 2020-2021 Fall/Winter League will be done at www.smba.ca. Registration will be on-line only, and they have programs for Grades 1-12. They are hoping to have the league run from October 17th, 2020 to February 13th, 2021 with a three-week break over Christmas. Playoffs would run the first two weekends of March. All dates are dependent on the government policies on when they can return to play. Teams will practice in Martensville and/or Warman but will play in Saskatoon.

Home Alone Plus First Aid Are you wondering when it’s safe to leave your child at home alone for a few hours before or after school or while you run errands? This entertaining four hour child safety workshop is one of our most popular courses and is designed to prepare children to look after themselves during the times you aren’t there. Important skills are learned through interactive lessons and role play that help make both you and your child more confident when they are at home alone. First Aid for Kids teaches students how to respond to medical emergencies, such as cuts, burns, choking or broken bones.

Youth Programs Hunter Education & Possession and Acquisition License (PAL) Are you a new hunter or interested in attaining your certification? We are very excited to be able to offer this course in Martensville again. The hunter safety training provides students with the Provincial Hunter Safety Training and the Federal PAL course (which is required for an individual to carry a firearm).

I Wanna Walk Workshop Walking to and from school can be a great way to stay fit and healthy. However, it is important that students learn to stay safe along the route. This two-hour course is designed for kids that want to walk to school alone and will help prepare kids for this new responsibility by covering topics such as bullies, strangers, and traffic safety.

Karate focuses on self-defence, life skills and physical fitness with emphasis on development of one’s character.

Kids will learn new techniques, play games, and work on improving capabilities, while the instructor will ensure that training sessions are effective, as well as fun. The Martensville Karate Club is a member of the Saskatchewan Karate Association. This allows our students to compete at Provincial tournaments, and if they qualify, move on to National and International levels. It will also allow the students to take part in seminars and training sessions with instructors from around the world.

Kids in the Kitchen Kids in the Kitchen will provide a hands-on experience for kids 9-12 to learn food preparation, cooking terms, table manners and clean up! Students will prepare simple and nutritious foods like tacos, omelettes, and cookies that they will then be able to prepare at home. You could be the next Food Network Star like Jamie Oliver, Anne Burrell, or Guy Fieri!

Equipment Orientation Come out and attend one of our equipment orientation sessions. Learn how to use the MAP equipment safely and confidently while getting exercise and nutrition tips that will help you see results! Please call the MAP at 306-683-5576 to sign up. Cost is your entrance into the facility.

First Aid & CPR We will be offering one Red Cross Standard First Aid & CPR C course this fall. If you need to recertify, there is another date scheduled for that. You will need to bring your current certification with you for verification if you are wanting to recertify.

Floor Hockey A recreational drop-in program to develop basic skills and introduce some team concepts and rules of floor hockey.

Games will reflect a recreational league-style play.

Possession and Acquisition License (PAL) & Restricted Possession and Acquisition License (RPAL) Federal training for purchasing firearms and ammunition as well as restricted firearms (hand guns) and ammunition.

Volleyball Leagues Martensville Volleyball Leagues are continuing to run this year. Our league is self-officiated, with 45 minutes games.

The Competitive Spiking and Recreational Spiking Leagues will have 2 weeks of playoffs after a 20-week season, while the Non-Spiking will not. Times are tentative and will be determined once registration has been finalized and schedules have been made.

Line Dancing Line Dancing is a fun social activity, promoting exercise, helping to develop and/or maintain posture, balance, coordination and memory. Choose from one of the following classes: Ultra Beginner No previous line dance experience is required. Each week you will learn individual dance steps, putting the steps into a pattern to form a line dance. Steps, dances and patterns are repeated each week, new dance(s) will be added as we go.

PLUMBING - HEATING AIR CONDITIONING VENTILATION

High Beginner/Improv Previous Line Dancing is required. Steps and dance patterns are more complex, and dances are repeated each week, with new dance(s) added.

Intermediate Line Dance This is the most popular level of social line dance and this classification will feature dance routines suitable for experienced dancers. Basically dancers who have mastered a comprehensive range of step patterns and movements completed as a beginner and improver dancer. An Intermediate routine is likely to feature interesting step combinations, pauses, syncopations, body movements, timing variations and styling; i.e. (Heel Jack, Vaudeville Step, Dorothy Step, Mash Potato, Full turn +, Hesitation, Pencil or Spiral Turns).

Drop-In Fitness Cards are available for $120, which gives you 12 classes of your choice!!

Due to COVID-19 we will be making a few changes to the classes. Class sizes will be limited to ensure social distancing, everyone will be required to sanitize upon entering the class and we are asking everyone to please bring as much of your own equipment as possible. Fitness Classes Ball & Mat Class This class focuses on ball exercises and incorporates handheld weights. It is a fusion of athletic, yoga, and pilates disciplines using the ball. This class will get your heart rate up but is more for muscular strengthening, core strength, and balance.

Body Sculpt This is a combo class that involves moderate weight training and cardio to enhance strength and endurance.

Equipment Orientation Come out and attend one of our equipment orientation sessions. Learn how to use the MAP equipment safely and confidently while getting exercise and nutrition tips that will help you see results! Please call the MAP at 306-6835576 to sign up. Flow Yoga This vinyasa-style flow involves linking several yoga poses together creating strength, flexibility, endurance, and balance. A focus of connecting breath to movement will relax and calm the mind. The classes will effectively work all parts of the body in an environment of non-judgement and non-competitiveness. Classes involve a warmup, work-phase and cool down. Come prepared to sweat! All levels welcome.

Yin Yoga

Yin yoga is a gentle practice focused on releasing areas of chronic tension within the body. Holding poses for longer periods allows you to get deep into the body’s connective tissues. Yin practice is designed to relieve stress and stimulate deep muscle release and relaxation.

This style of yoga is beneficial for those at all levels but can be especially helpful for those who prefer a less vigorous class and for those experiencing chronic pain and tension. Yin yoga is also a great compliment to regular yoga classes.

Zumba

Zumba is a fusion of Latin and international music that will make you sweat.

Interval training at its best.

Be prepared to ditch your normal workout and join the party. Featuring samba, meringue, reggaeton steps and more. Bring your water bottle and a towel.

Gentle Yoga Practice the form of basic yoga postures, while allowing yourself to experience a gentle slower paced class. Focus will be on attention to connecting breath mindfully to move through the postures and creating a balance for greater health and mental awareness.

Learn to Jog An indoor program progressing to the goal of jogging 3 kilometres at your own speed. We begin with a warmup walk of 5 minutes, a 10 minute stretch, a combination of walking and jogging intervals for 35 minutes and a 10 minute cool down and stretch. Absolutely no competition and do everything at your own level. Bring a water bottle, small towel and indoor shoes.

Local Service Groups MCRP - Martensville Community Recreation Project The Martensville Community Recreation Project is working to provide a new rink and multisport recreational facility in the City of Martensville. We host multiple events to raise awareness and funds go directly towards the goal. Through the efforts of community volunteers, we have donated over $300,000 to the City of Martensville dedicated towards the task of funding the construction of a new rink and multi-sport facility in the community. Just recently, the city has released some preliminary plans for a new multi-joint facility in Martensville!!!

Our annual events and dates are: • Martensville 3 on 3 Hockey Tournament - First 3 weeks in September - Registration started at the end of April.

• Cabaret - Saturday, Nov. 7th, 2020 • Party on the Pond - Feb. 26th and 27th, 2021 • NHL Playoff Draft - April 11th, 2021 (or the first Sunday after the completion of the NHL regular season • TUFF Fun Run - 2021 Date TBA • Street Hockey Fun Day - Part of Buster Days The MCRP is working with other groups in our city to offer opportunities to raise awareness and funds for recreational facilities in the community.

Girl Guides At Girl Guides of Canada, girls from ages 5 to 17 meet with other girls their own age in a safe, inclusive space where she’ll explore, create, learn, shine, have fun, make friends and develop life skills through many group activities. Your daughter will join over 95,000 other girls and women across Canada who love what Guiding offers them. She’ll explore everything she wants to be, in an all-female environment that’s designed to empower.

She’ll also get an entry pass to access amazing opportunities in Guiding, including scholarships and travel opportunities.

Local Service Groups 574 Dakota Royal Canadian Air Cadets Air Cadets is a national program for young Canadians aged 12 to 18 who are interested in participating in a variety of fun, challenging and rewarding activities while learning about the Air activities of the Canadian Armed Forces. 574 Dakota Squadron serves Martensville, Warman, Dalmeny, Osler and area.

We enjoy many activities at Air Cadets including survival weekends, sports weekends, range, and much more. The Cadet program helps youth develop into wonderful young adults and instills communication & leadership skills, discipline and service to others, which form the makings of a great citizen. Cadets also learn valuable life and work skills such as teamwork, leadership and citizenship.

574 Dakota Squadron meet September to mid-June at the Northridge Centre, Thursday evenings from 6:30pm to 9:00pm. Registration is ongoing throughout the year.

Skate Martensville Become part of Martensville’s skating family. Skate Martensville is an association dedicated to the principles of enabling individuals to participate in skating for fun, fitness and/or achievement. If you want to introduce your children to a healthy life-long sport or just for them to learn how to skate, Skate Martensville is for you!

CanSkate is Skate Canada’s learn-to-skate program, designed for beginners of all ages.

The CanSkate program focuses on fun, participation and basic skill development.

CanSkate participants earn badges and other incentives as they learn fundamental skating skills. CanSkate lessons are given in a group format led by our NCCP certified coaching staff using teaching aids, music and activities that create a fun environment and promote learning.

Due to COVID-19 and social distancing rules and regulations put forth by the Government of Saskatchewan and Skate Canada, CanSkate packages will be available for once a week lesson only on Tuesdays and Fridays from 6:00pm-6:45pm. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide Pre-CanSkate lessons this year due to the COVID-19 social distancing rules and regulations. We feel that the health and safety of our little skaters is of the utmost importance and we will miss them this coming season.

The STARSkate program is for those more advanced skaters wanting to move into figure skating. Skate Canada’s STARSkate program offers opportunities for skaters to develop fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of ice dance, skating skills, free skate and interpretive skating. STARSkate lessons are led by our NCCP certified coaching staff and are offered in group and private lesson format. STARSkate lessons occur on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays after school. Skate Martensville offers a variety of STARSkate packages from ice and lessons included to ice only packages. Skate Martensville has a package that’s right for you!

Our season will start on October 6th and will run until our Carnival/Year End Ice Show on March 21st (dependant of the COVID-19 and Skate Canada Rules an regulations). For those skaters that do not want to participate in the year end Carnival/ Ice show, lessons will end on Feb 19th, 2021.

Registration is currently TBD as we are working on setting up online registration. Please check our Facebook page and website, skatemartensville.ca, under the registration tab for when registration will open.

Local Service Groups Kinettes Club The Martensville and District Kinettes will be meeting the second Tuesday of every month starting in September 2020. We meet at 7:00pm at the Martensville Arena in the Kinsmen Room upstairs.

The Kinettes are a non-profit service club that is new to Martensville. We are here to serve the communities greatest needs. We accept members from any community surrounding Martensville. We not only do work in our community but, we concentrate on fellowship and fun. We have social outings and love spending time together. Some of our plans for the next year is to hold another food drive for the pantry, crafts with seniors, and of course Telemiracle.

Martensville Soccer – Indoor 2020/2021 Season The Martensville soccer indoor season runs for 16 weeks at the MAP in Martensville. Our registration is only available ONLINE. Registration will open August 15th and closes September 20th at NOON. We have limited spots for each age group. Local Service Groups Sask Valley Riding Club The Sask Valley Riding Club was formed in 1996 and is made up of members of all ages, promoting a family atmosphere. As a club we enjoy spending time with other people, both riders and non-riders alike, that share our interest in horses. In doing so, we are given a chance to learn from each other and the various experts we have contact with along the way. Our goals include helping each other, helping our horses, and helping our community.

Both English and Western riders can enjoy the advantages of membership. We coordinate various riding clinics for club members throughout the year and take part in as many local parades as we can. Our members also enjoy getting outside and hitting the trails as a rewarding way to enjoy nature. Whether you are just looking for some new people to ride with or for the opportunity to learn a little more about your horse in a relaxed atmosphere, the Club may be right for you. New Horizons Seniors Martensville New Horizons Senior Centre, invites anyone 55+, to join us for our social hours and other activities. We enjoy a potluck supper on Monday evenings at 5:30pm, and socialize with a game of cards, board games, shuffle board, or grab a pool cue and shoot a game of pool. Drop-in on Wednesday mornings for a cup of coffee, game of cards or maybe some crafts at 10:00am.

It is open to everyone! Our season starts in September, all through the winter months, ending the last Monday of June with a bar-b-que. Our address is 1064th Avenue North. Memberships are $50.00 a year.

We are going to be continuing with our Bingo’s every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month at 7:00pm at the New Horizons Centre. Bingos are open to the public so come out and try your luck with us.

Some activities are subsidized by Saskatchewan Lotteries Grant, and include MAP passes, out of town bus trips, the Barn Playhouse and various other entertainment. Come and experience the Centre as a member or a rental group.
