So, this actually is my first Rodeo...

New to rodeo? Allow us to show you the ropes!

The Georgia National Rodeo consists of competitions in seven categories:

Saddle Bronc Riding is Rodeo's "classic" event with the rider working to time their spurring action with the animal's bucking.

During Bareback Riding, competitors ride without the aid of rein or saddle and, using only a one hand grip, attempt to stay on the horse.

In Tie-Down Roping, the rider works to lasso the calf from horseback by throwing a loop of rope around the calf's neck and Team Roping consists of two people competing together to catch a steer for time

With a single hand grip, Bull Riding competitors fight to stay on the bull for at least eight seconds while the bull spins and bucks.

Steer Wrestling, pictured below, involves calculatedly wrangling a steer to the ground from horseback

In Barrel Racing, the horse and rider work together to follow a pattern with barrel turns, competing for the fastest time.

Wait, was that an earthquake?

Earthquakes are extremely rare in Middle Georgia, so if you just felt the walls shake, don't worry - you more than likely just experienced a sonic boom! Houston County is home to Robins Air Force Base and residents are accustomed to the powerful roars of jet engines passing overhead. As the jets at Robins Air Force Base soar through the sky, they reach speeds exceeding the sound barrier, creating a shockwave of compressed air. When this shockwave reaches the ground, it unleashes an explosive sound wave known as a sonic boom. Experiencing a sonic boom in Houston County is a reminder of the power and prowess of the military and a testament to the dedication of the men and women who serve at Robins Air Force Base and across the world.
