Scott Walker Governor 3

Dear Dr. Lovell: Congratulations on being elected as the 24th President of Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. As Members of the Wisconsin Congressional Delegation, we look forward to working with you in support of one of Wisconsin’s finest higher education institutions. We believe your roles as a proven leader, distinguished scholar, and award-winning researcher, as well as your record of encouraging others to be engaged in inquiry, innovation, and community involvement, will serve you well as Marquette University’s first lay president. As part of its 133 year history, Marquette University has been committed to the pursuit of educational excellence and the promotion of social justice in service to the community. Today, consistent with its mission, the University plays an integral role in the education and growth of future leaders throughout the world. Further, Marquette serves as an important economic resource for the State of Wisconsin and a major institutional anchor on Milwaukee’s near west side. Through its mission to foster service learning, Marquette aids the community by delivering care around Wisconsin through its clinical programs in dentistry, nursing, health sciences, and law. Our offices know firsthand the impact of a Marquette education through our experiences with students participating in the Marquette University Les Aspin Center for Government, located in Washington, D.C. Student interns at the Aspin Center are an invaluable resource to us and provide a nearly constant connection to the University. The Aspin Center provides a unique opportunity to learn and work on Capitol Hill and has successfully developed individuals who are dedicated to public service. Marquette University has made important contributions in faculty research and we are confident your track record of promoting innovation and entrepreneurship for faculty, staff, and students will further enhance this culture at Marquette. Marquette has also demonstrated a commitment to collaboration with other regionally based institutions of higher education to further the quality of life of Wisconsin’s citizens and spur economic growth. You also have a reputation for establishing powerful partnerships between the academic, industrial, and non-profit sectors, and we look forward to the positive outcomes of new and enhanced regional collaborations. Again, congratulations and we look forward to working with you as the new leader of Marquette University!
