We celebrate women’s history month all year long at Marove Agency - one can never give too many acknowledgements to women - but this month was particularly ferocious thanks to some women-powered business events.
Speaking of which… I helped make a little women’s history of my own this month with the launch of Hera Games, a fantasy sports platform for women’s sports! This project has been over a year in the making, and most of the credit goes to the product team who has been working tirelessly to build the site and catch bugs in the code (I’ll take a tad bit of credit for some of the marketing).
Aside from being the first platform of its kind, the name Hera Games itself is related to women’s history: The Heraean Games were a series of athletic festivals exclusively for women, held in honor of the Greek mythological goddess Hera. The event came about because women were banned from participating in the Olympic games (shocker!).
In other business news, I recently kicked off a short-term social media service with The 401(k) Girls, aka the dynamic duo of Jessica and Hayley who are both deep into their careers as financial advisors. They’re on a mission to provide approachable and accessible information about retirement planning and 401(k)s. They’re blazing their own path as young women in the financial industry - what a breath of fresh air!

This month also saw me hit the runway as a model for Conference Like a Boss, a networking-event-turned-fashion-show hosted by WIFS.
I modeled the day-to-night outfit, which is an outfit that can be dressed up or down throughout the day. So, if you’re doing girl boss things like going to professional conferences,

you can style this outfit a certain way during the day then change a few key pieces (like the jacket) to dress it up for the evening activities. Très chic!
Lastly and as we speak, I’m setting up my table at the women-owned business market at the Multnomah Athletic Club My table is going to be super cute (she said humbly), I’ll be sure to post some pictures on social media and give an event recap in the next issue.
To conclude this ode to women’s history, I’ll leave you with one of my personal favorite women’s history facts about one of my favorite women:
Agatha Christie is the most widely published author of all time, outsold only by Shakespeare and the Bible That’s the business bish energy to which we aspire
The tagline is a tricky little thing: Just like a calling card one might hand out to prospective clients or friends, it must be the all-encompassing, informative summary of your business, though simultaneously accommodating the 2second attention span of a social media doom-scroller. When done with intention, this important element optimizes your page for higher profile activity and user engagement.
Understand the different vibes of social media channels and how your business page fits in.
LinkedIn is pretty professional, while Instagram can be trendy. Facebook might be more business-oriented, while TikTok is quirky Is your business there to fit into what the audience expects of a page on that platform, or to set the trend?
Identify the purpose of your business profile on each channel.
The way your your tagline reads should flow up into your channel strategy. Are you there to generate entertaining content? Convert leads? Connect with other businesses?
Draft an ‘about’ paragraph, writing freely about your business through the lens of your channel purpose.
Don’t worry about being succinct here - simply get any and all of your thoughts on paper (though keep it to a paragraph). Your business mission & vision statements can be a good starting place.
Pare it down to a short phrase that packs a punch, keeping in mind the character limits.
Pull out the key words from your paragraph, then build out a sentence around them between 150-255 characters. Then don your wordsmith hat and give it another pass until it’s in tagline form.
Example: I’m the owner of a local ice cream parlor called Worldwide Scoopers writing a tagline for my Facebook page.
My purpose/vibe on the channel is: Facebook = the place to feature my pro
About (through the Facebook lens):
Worldwide Scooper’s is your friendly neighborhood ice cream parlor bringing you flavors from around the world. We’re on a mission to create an inclusive, welcoming space where people can discover cultures through our internationally-inspired ice cream flavors (rotating each month)
Key Words:
Worldwide Scooper’s is your friendly neighborhood ice cream parlor bringing you flavors from around the world. We’re on a mission to create an inclusive, welcoming space where people can experience cultures through our internationally-inspired ice cream flavors (rotating each month).

First pared-down phrase: A friendly, inclusive ice cream parlor serving international flavors as a way to experience cultures. Flavors rotate each month.
FINAL phrase: Scoops from around the globe, right in your backyard. Taste international flavors in frozen form with our rotating monthly flavors!
Find the places on your social media profile that are crucial to and creating a consistent digital presence and iconic brand:
1. The space to display a written snapshot of your business purpose
2. The frame where your brand is showcased in icon form
3. The shortcut to your business’s other digital pathways
4. The hall of fame for your content
5. A landscape layout of your business vibe
This succinct one-liner is the very first impression of your business and is used as a way to give an at-aglance summary of your business. Strategic for signaling your brand competency in 255 characters or less.
This can be a link to a single website, or a 3rd party platform (i.e. Linktree) that opens up a page with multiple clickable links. Strategic for simplifying the user experience by giving them the option to immediately explore more of your business pages without having to track it down on their own.
A small but mighty section to make your business poignant and consistent by using your logo as your profile picture. Strategic for making your logo absolutely iconic and familiar to your audience.
Also known as featured content, this is the content you can ‘glue’ to your profile so it stays at the top of your page regardless of when you posted it. Strategic for keeping specific content readily available to your audience (i.e., posts about the business, milestones, accomplishments, etc.)
This element acts as a subtle accessory to your LinkedIn/Facebook pages, creating a frame for both your profile picture and tagline. Strategic for sending sublte information about your brand by way of a visual cue beyond the logo.
