2022-2023 Annual Report Dear Friends of Marmion, In 2023, we celebrate 90 years of Marmion! Along with that, 90 years of generosity from the Marmion Family! I continue to be amazed by the stories that are so frequently shared with us of the impact Marmion has had on the lives of our graduates and how that experience set the trajectory for the success in their lives. The gratitude of our alumni, parents (past and present), extended family, and dear friends is clearly reflected in the generous support we received this year. Marmion remains strong because of the support of the ever-present and unwavering commitment of the Marmion family! This 2022-2023 Annual Report recognizes those who very generously provided financial support for Marmion Abbey, Marmion Academy, and the Guatemala Priory this past fiscal year (July 1, 2022 – June 30, 2023). During the fiscal year, Marmion was blessed to receive $6,901,530 in support of the ministries of the monks of Marmion Abbey. These generous gifts came from 1,669 donors (couples are counted as one) from 47 States (see map on page 14). The kind and generous support of our donors allowed us to educate 468 students at the Academy and provided $1,330,506 in financial aid and scholarships – a record high! Your generosity also helped us purchase new tables, chairs, and outdoor furniture for the Lux Dining Hall; resurface the floor of the Alumni Hall gymnasium; install new sidewalks connecting the school to the Abbey Church; update the marquee sign on Butterfield Road; renew our iconic water tower; and make extensive and exciting renovations to the newly dedicated Regole Stadium and varsity baseball field. All of these improvements were done to provide the best experience possible for our students and maintain the vitality of our beautiful campus. The Academy relies on the success of the annual MARMION FUND appeal, Giving Tuesday, Marmathon, Salute to Youth, the BIG GIVE, the Guardian Angel Fund, and our Alumni Association events to fill the gap between tuition ($14,300) and the cost of educating our students - a gap of $3,000 per student. This year’s MARMION FUND goal was raised to $1.5 million, which we exceeded by nearly $300K. The largest individual gift received this year was $100,000 and the largest bequest received was $3.4M. Donations that are directed to the Abbey assist the monks in covering the cost of health care, education for our younger monks, and building maintenance. The monks at San José Priory minister to the underserved people of Quetzaltenango, Guatemala. Donations made as part of our Poor Souls mailing provide funds for the monks to continue this important ministry. Regole Family Legacy by Fr. Charles Reichenbacher, OSB ’59
Gifts to Marmion from the Regole family of St. Charles now total over $12 million; truly a legacy that is singular in Marmion’s 90-year history. The latest, a bequest gift of over $3 million, came from the estate of +Edward Regole ’50, and was used for the renovations of our athletic fields. When Ed was a student, he longed to play football, but he had to be home after school each day to milk the cows on the family’s dairy farm. Leaving a “game-changing” gift to Marmion was incredibly important to him. The renovations, which took place this summer, included a complete overhaul of Marmion’s multisport stadium with widening the field for soccer; installing artificial turf for the playing field; adding a new eight lane track, new lights, and a new entrance. The complex is now named Regole Stadium, with the Fichtel Field multi-sport playing area and the Arndt Stadium Building. Edward ’50 and Vivienne Regole

New Investment Funds Established by Kathleen Hausmann, Executive Director of Advancement
One new Academic Scholarship Fund and two new Student Financial Aid Investment Funds were established during 2022-2023. The goals are: to use only the annual interest earned on these funds to award students for their academic achievements; and to help students with proven financial need. Abbot John Brahill, OSB ’67 Financial Aid Fund – At the Marmion Board of Trustees June Board meeting, Chairman Scott Wehrli announced the establishment of this student financial aid fund in honor of Abbot John’s 13 years of leadership, service, and dedication to all the entities of Marmion. The Fund was launched with a generous lead gift from Trustee Austin ’97 and Melissa Dempsey. Dr. Stanley C. & Eleanore Parks Memorial Community Service Fund – Dave Parks ’76 helped to establish this Fund through a designated gift from his parents’ estate upon the passing of his father, Dr. Stanley Parks, in June of 2022. Based on Dr. Parks’ wishes, grants from this Fund are awarded to students with proven financial need, and who also demonstrate their understanding of “service to others,” something that was important to Dr. Parks throughout his lifetime as he provided pro-bono dentistry in Guatemala. Edward Jerome & Elizabeth Bausch O’Reilly Family Scholarship Fund In Honor of Jerome and Mary Ann O’Reilly – Ed ’86 and Betsy O’Reilly of Greenwich, CT established this academic scholarship fund in honor of Ed’s parents, Jerry and Mary Ann O’Reilly. Groundbreaking Ceremony for the NEW Regole Stadium by Kathleen Hausmann, Executive Director of Advancement
On Friday, May 5, we held a Groundbreaking Ceremony and reception for the renovation of multi-sport Fichtel Field and the varsity baseball field. Construction of the new artificial turf playing surface, track, and field event areas began on Monday, May 8. The funding for this project was made possible by the generous bequest of Ed Regole, a 1950 graduate of Marmion. Ed and his late wife, Vivienne’s, generous support through the years allowed Marmion to make multiple and very impactful enhancements to its facilities, including the Regole Natatorium, the Regole Science Center, and the Regole Field House. “Marmion was a special place to Ed. He considered his gifts through the years to be his legacy,” said Director of Planned Giving and longtime friend, Fr. Charles Reichenbacher, OSB ’59.
