Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen, and Happy Friday! Welcome back to Walking in Johnny’s Shoes podcast! Today, we have a very special guest, he is the most famous person around B.S.U campus. Please welcome President Frederick Clark! Thank you very much, I thought Zach the dog was the most famous on campus, maybe I’m in the top 5, I don’t know. Maybe you’re number one, this podcast is elevating your star status!

Thank you very much President Clark. How are you today?

I am thrilled! I am very excited. Last week was spring break and it was very lonely around here with no students. Now, students are back and they’re very energized and engaged and the energy level just goes right up, I’m very happy.

I am so thrilled after spring break to go back here. If you had a break last week, what did you do for your free time?

I was working for our students last week, but I was in Florida so don’t feel too bad for me. but I was in Florida talking to our alumni. We have about 2,000 Bridgewater alumni in Florida. Most are retired (not all of them) and all of them are very very interested in what is happening on this campus... they want to find ways to make connections to support our students.

Some people know what the EXCEL Program means, and some people don’t know what the EXCEL Program means. What do you know about the EXCEL Program?

I am very proud of our EXCEL Program... What the EXCEL Program has done, and we were one of the first in the country really to have a program like this, is to expose high school students... to what a college experience could be... but many of our EXCEL students become full fledged students here at Bridgewater State [and] do very, very well.

That’s what Bridgewater State stands for, and the EXCEL program is just one example of that.

How do you handle stress on BSU campus as the President?

If I just sat at my desk and I worried about the budget and I worried about making sure we’re installing elevators [or] filling positions when people retire... or all the challenges we have at this University... I probably wouldn’t be a very happy person. But, what I do is I get out of my office and talk to students like you, Johnny, and that’s what gives me energy and positivity and reminds me why I am in this role.

JoMo is our ambassador here at T.T.C. Our lovable orange robot represents the values of both technology and creativity that are held highly within halls of the B.S.U. campus.

WHO iS JOE MOAKLEY?

The late Massachusetts Congressman was a great leader both locally and nationally. It was through his efforts that Congress supported the funding of the Technology Center which is now named after him. This building provides students with access to faculty offices, computer labs, classrooms and more. This building was the beginning of tremendous growth of technology at Bridgewater State University.
