Introducing the Barry Air Target Club
Our Olympic Style Air Gun Club was formed in June 2012 it was then called LS.HAVEN AIR TARGET CLUB. Then on January 1 st 2019 we renamed it BARRY AIR TARGET CLUB. We have approximately 20 members from the age of 10. Younger members must be accompanied by an adult, 12 year olds upwards can attend unaccompanied. We meet mostly every Sunday evening 6.30 pm til 8 pm and we are affiliated to the NSRA and WAA (National Small-bore Rifle Association) and (Welsh Air Gun Association) and are fully insured.
As we progressed in membership of Juniors and Seniors we decided to split the range, so four juniors could shoot at targets at six yards with six yard targets, and six seniors could shoot targets at 10 metres with 10 metre targets all at the same time. We had just before the lock down, introduced one firing point for Crossbow Target Shooting with a 40 lb draw weight Jaguar Crossbow.

We have an NSRA County Coach also an NSRA Club Instructor, several NSRA Level 1 Instructors all qualified in Air Rifle, Air Pistol and Crossbow and are First Aid trained. We use NSRA Open sight not telescopic sights for Air Rifle and Air Pistol Target shooting and shoot at a bell target six yards with a 9 mm hole cut in a steel plate and a bell behind it. It’s great fun trying to get the pellet through the hole and ring the bell.
Pellets we use .177 Flat head and six foot pound Muzzle energy rifles and five foot pound Muzzle energy pistols as recommended by the ISSF for six Yard up to 10 metre target shooting. The reason we use .177 pellets and not .22 pellets is the idea being that .177 Flat heads cut a smaller clean hole for scoring. So the smaller the hole the more accurate you need to be to score higher points.
Our club runs several internal competitions for the juniors at six yards and seniors at 10 metres throughout the year and we have a presentation night at the Brewers Fayre where we present medals and trophies.
One of our members is wheelchair bound and last year represented the club and won at Wolverhampton in the Disability Championships.
We are a family orientated club. You can find our details under LS Haven Air Target Club or contact our Secretary Jonathan Gould Sec2.lshaven@gmail.com or text 07852 216884
