CHAIRMAN’S WELCOME Welcome to Exit Stage Left’s latest production, “West End Comes to Norton.” It is hard to believe that nine months have passed since the last show. It has been a very busy year for many members and, with the current economical climate, it was decided that we’d put off the show til September. We hope you won’t be disappointed.

We had huge successes with our shows last year. “Thank You For The Musicals” showcased the talents of cast members who had never had solo’s, something “West End Comes to Norton” also does. We put on the South West premier of “I Love You Because” which received huge critical acclaim. The year was rounded up with a spectacular production of “Just So” which was well received by critics and audiences alike. We also gained a nomination for best publicity material at the South West Rose Bowl Awards with our superb poster, designed by cast member, Mark Sellick, who actually won the award at last year’s ceremony for his poster for “Honk.” We are delighted that Mark has designed the poster and programme for this show. He never fails to impress.

Congratulations must be offered to cast members who have attained excellent exam results. A special mention must go to Paige Blacker, Pip Knowles and Jessica Withers who all got at least one A at A’Level. Also, to Ben Curd who did GCSE’s a year early and gained A* and A grades. We are very proud and wish all our members going to University in September, the best of luck.

PAIGE BANKS Paige came along to drama one morning with her friend, Jodie, and enjoyed it so much that she continued coming. She says “HI, my name is Paige Banks. I am fourteen and I go to Somervale School. I like singing and dancing and I love the drama club. It is really fun and I hope that in the next show I can go for a bigger part as I joined quite late and don’t have a lot to do in this one but it is great fun and I am enjoying every minute.”

Jodie says: “The main thing I enjoy about “Exit Stage Left” is that we are like a big a family and the shows are really good and we all try our hardest. I am a bit upset as I now have to go to school most Saturdays as I have just started at Wells Cathedral School but I am really pleased that I am still allowed to join in with the shows and rehearse the chorus numbers on a weekday evening. I love it so much.” Jodie’s family have been a great support to ESL, fundraising at every given opportunity.

Molly says “I am looking forward to our next show as we have had such a good time at rehearsals. I was really pleased to have been cast in “Legally Blonde” and have loved every minute. I love dancing, singing and acting and have performed in lots of different shows.

My favourite performances have been in “Honk” as one of the ducklings and “West End Comes to Kilmersdon” as Martha in “The Sound of Music.”

HANNAH BARRY Hannah says “Hi, I’m Hannah and I am fifteen years old.

JACOB BISHOP Jacob says : “This is my second show I have done with the group but have done other shows with school. I am doing a show in the egg theatre where I am singing the part of the Artful Dodger. I am very pleased to be doing by first solo in this show.

Jacob was in hospital the week before the show and we are hoping he is well enough to appear in the show. We all send him lots of love and hope he is appearing on stage this week.

DANIEL BATES Daniel says : “I have been involved with Exit Stage Left for many years now.

I like singing and dancing. It’s going to be fantastic doing “Thriller” as Michael Jackson is the best.

I can’t wait. I enjoy all my parts that I have had. I would like a big part like James Sellick one day. When he sang “One Day More” and “Don’t Stop Believing” it was amazing. I would love to sing like him. I am looking forward to the show. I would love to be the next Michael Jackson.”

Natalie says : “This show has been really fun rehearsing for.

I have been doing drama since I was four so have been in lots of shows.

My favourite show so far was “West End Comes to Kilmersdon” where I played Gretl in “The Sound of Music.”

I really love singing and, when I was eleven, I performed “James and the Giant Peach” in the Egg Theatre.

Annie has been an amazing role to play and I can’t wait to do the show.”

Gold medallist, Ben Curd is an absolute joy to have in the cast. He had just sat several GCSE’s a year early, gaining A* in Maths and A in Further Maths. He is a keen gymnast and is also in CCF. Ben was an awesome Dodger in “Oliver”. He has continued to receive great critical acclaim in every show, especially for his double act, with Anthony, in “Just So.” His cheeky persona is an absolute delight at rehearsals and his enthusiasm rubs off on everyone.

EVE DAVIDSON Eve is one of our newest members.

She is very nervous about playing her first ever part but is really looking forward to it.

HOLLY DERRICK Holly says “This is my first show and I am excited and nervous about my first part which is Molly in “Annie.” I can’t believe I got the part. I love singing and dancing and am looking forward to the play as it’s the only thing I’ve done apart from Christmas shows. I am very nervous but I hope all my family come to see me especially Uncle Dave, who is normally a couch potato so it will be brilliant if he comes to see the play.”

Anthony says “I’ve been here for nearly eight years : so long that I’ve forgotten what sleeping in on a Saturday feels like.

I’ve played parts such as Knuckles, Vince Fontaine, Lord Chamberlain, a leopard, a frog, a Turkey and an idiot called Odour.

I am delighted to be singing again with my partner in crime, Ben “Gold Medallist” Curd. I’m in my final 6th form year and hope to study Sciences at university next year. I am absolutely thrilled to be sponsored by H : the Best Welshman in the World. Without him I’d have no ambition and would probably end up like my Dad!!!

“I have been here since 2002 and have made the audience laugh by performing my mime/dances when I was the cat in “Cinderella” and “Puppy” in “The Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe.” I have also been in “The Wiz”, “Grease”, “Oliver”, “Honk”, “Just So” and “Bugsy Malone.” My dream is to be an actor when I’m older. Imogen is one of the newer members of Exit Stage Left, and joined the group without knowing anybody as she lives in Bristol!

Oliver says “Hi, my name is Ollie and this is my second show with Exit Stage Left. I am so happy that I get to sing a solo and that I’m Timon in Hakuna Matata. I have really enjoyed it so much. I’m in my last year of primary school and am busy with ESL, scouts, football and playing the drums. My favourite things in the world are biscuits, my drum kit, my dog Tilly and annoying my sister! Hope you enjoy the show!”

ANDREW ENGLISH

Chloe says “Hi, I’m fourteen years old and I go to Writhlington School.

This will be my second show. The dance that I am doing is “Bop to the Top” from the amazing “High School Musical” and I am quite nervous as I have never sung on my own before.

Andrew, the group’s newest member, has been a fantastic addition, sharing his wealth of experience with other members.

He has played many different roles in the past, most notably his exceptional portrayal of Pirelli in “Sweeney Todd” in Bath’s Theatre Royal. He gave an outstanding performance as Curly in KLOGS production of ”Oklahoma” gaining a Rosebowl nomination for Best Actor in a Musical. Andrew was a bit unsure who to ask to sponsor him so it was suggested that he asked the person who loved him most in the world. So, with that in mind: Andrew English is sponsored by Andrew English!!!

GEORGIA HUGHES Georgia says “I am eleven years old and have only done one show before which was “Just So.” I’ve just finished primary school and hope to do well in Writhlington. I’d like to grow up and be a famous Palaeontologist (dinosaur expert) or to study elephants in Africa. At home I have one dog, two cats, two family goldfish and a small aquarium. LOUIS JAMES

Tracy would like to let everyone know she is Tanya’s sister, a fact that have surprised people lately. Tracy has recently turned 30 and spent the day in tears as ESL performed a cabaret especially for her. We are not sure if it was tears of joy or distress. Tracy has been a loyal member of ESL for many years and has played a number of challenging roles, gaining particularly good critical acclaim for Alice in “Billy” and Katisha in “Hot Mikado.”

Louis says “It has been three years since I first joined Exit Stage Left and they have been the most entertaining years of my life so far. The roles I have undertaken are Greylag in “Honk” and the cooking stove in “Just So.” It was definitely the right move to perform. I would like to dedicate my performance of Warbucks to my sister, Emily, and my friend, Richard Luscombe, who first introduced me to this musical by playing Annie and Warbucks in their am-dram’s production of Annie.”

ANDREW KNOWLES

PIP KNOWLES

Andrew has been a member of ESL since the start and has played many different types of role. His first was the title role in “Bugsy Malone”. Since then he has played parts such as the Pantomime Dame and the Dentist in “Little Shop of Horrors.”

One of the highlights was when he played Mickey in “Blood Brothers,” and also the role of the Parsee Cake Man in “Just So”. Andrew has made an amazing contribution to the rehearsals for this show and has been extremely reliable and an asset to the group. Pip has really blossomed over the last few years gaining so much confidence and really surprising a lot of people. He was superb as the Elephant Child in “Just So” and wowed everyone in a recent Rat Pack concert, showing how much his voice is suited to the crooner songs of the likes of Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra. He is a number of different types of roles in this show and has thoroughly enjoyed rehearsing. Pip is extremely intelligent, gaining an A in his A’Level Maths and will be studying Maths at UWE for which we wish him the very best of luck.

Faye says “I am seven years old. I go to Midsomer Norton Primary School.

Vanessa says “Hi, I’m Nessie. I am ten years old and I enjoy singing and dancing.

I love dogs and other pets. I am looking forward to being in year three.

So far I have been in one musical with Exit Stage Left – “Just So” which was great fun. I am really looking forward to doing this show as I have my first ever solo which I am excited about. I am also looking forward to going into year six.”

We are delighted that Becca has managed to take part in this show. She very quickly made her mark on the group and gained a nomination in the South West Rosebowls for Best Actress in a Musical for her portrayal of Ida in “Honk!” Becca has also been such a help behind the scenes.

In the past she has face painted the mice in Cinderella and created amazing backdrops. In this show she has helped organise costumes - nothing is too much for Becca and we are so pleased to have her back with us. We know her song, “Circle of Life” will astound you all. Hannah is multi talented, hardworking and shows a maturity far beyond her 15 years. She has put in hours of work choreographing this show and we are sure you’ll agree she has done a terrific job. Lauren says “Hi, I’m Lauren Martin. I love to sing a lot and I find drama fantastic. In my song with Tanya I play Beth.

Tanya and Ali have helped me a lot. At the start of drama I was very naughty but now I am not.

(Well not as much anyway!!) . I love being in the group and have made a lot of friends and have had a chance to sing some brilliant songs. I love how the older ones always help get better and better. Jodie and Chelsea have also helped me as well Thank you all xx”

Alison has enjoyed putting this show together due to the fact that she has had a great team behind her, most especially Hannah, Tracey and Tanya. It has been so rewarding seeing children that have never had parts before sing solos for the first time ever. She is loving her cameo’s in this show especially being reunited with Andrew Knowles for “A Stud and a Babe.” She really enjoyed starring opposite Andrew in ”Blood Brothers”, gaining tremendous critical acclaim.

Amber says “I am thirteen years old and this is my second show with ESL. I go to Writhlington School. This is only my second show and I am doing my first ever group song. There will only be four of us on stage and I am quite scared but I am really looking forward to it. I am also looking forward to seeing my little brother do his first show and his first ever solo.

Jakob says “Hi, I’m Jakob with a K! I am looking to my first song “Hakuna Matata” which I love practising even though I sometimes go wrong but Tracey has really helped me. I am very excited about being Pumbaah. I have just started in year three at school which will be good and it will be my birthday soon after the show.”

DANNIELLE PEARCE

Laura has just completed her hairdressing course, winning Hairdresser of the Year this year. We are very proud of her. She has loved rehearsing for this show but is a bit gutted to be too old for the part of Annie as her first ever lead role was Molly in Annie ten years ago. Laura won many hearts as the Kolokola Bird in “Just So.” Her outstanding solo, “Wait a Bit,” brought a lump to audience members’ throats and the effect when she flew around the stage was breathtaking.

Danni says “I have really enjoyed doing the rehearsals for this show. I liked working with everyone to get this show to come together. One of my favourite bits is doing Annie’s “It’s a Hard Knock Life.”

Since I have been coming to Exit Stage Left it has given me an insight into what I want to be when I’m older which is an actress. I think everyone in the audience will love this show as it has something for everyone and will make everyone feel a mixture of emotions. Hope you love it”

James has really loved taking part in this show although he was really gutted when he was taken out of the dance to Positive in “Legally Blonde.” This is because he stepped into the role of Warner as our original one had to drop out. James proved his commitment by learning the moves, lyrics and tune in one day. He is made for the part: vain, arrogant and lazy!!

We are delighted that Vix has managed to be in this show as she has just started her new job as a reception teacher at St John’s School, Glastonbury, after a very successful NQT year. Vix never fails to disappoint. Her portrayal of Marcy in “I Love You Because” last year was both poignant and funny, a feat she repeats as Elle in “Legally Blonde”.

She has absolutely loved playing the part of Elle and is enjoying seeing what she would look like with blonde hair but doesn’t think it will be a permanent addition.

NICOLE WELLING Nicole has been doing drama with Ali since she was three and was very shy until recently when she suddenly found confidence.

She was fantastic as the zebra in “Just So” but nothing prepared us for how surprised we were the first time we heard her singing “What It Means To Be A Friend” – It brought a lump to our throats. Nicole is extremely excited that her Dad, after seeing Exit Stage Left perform for the first time last December, loved it so much and is coming again. She hopes he is not disappointed. Nicole is sponsored by Charlie’s Play Centre.

MAXINE WHEELER Maxine started coming to drama on Saturday to make sure her daughter was enjoying it. Well, that was her story anyway. Her husband, Scott, let it slip that Maxine was dying to be on stage so we talked her in to joining in with a couple of songs. She is very nervous but she LOVES it. She is known as Yummy Mummy by the other members and we love her. She definitely wins the prize for the most tickets sold : it is official – Maxine could sell ice to Eskimos! Maxine has also helped make some costumes and been a complete asset to the company.

Jessica is an original member of ESL and has blossomed before our eyes.

She is an extremely versatile actress, She went from playing a sassy 20 something in “I Love You Because” to a Scouse rhino in “Just So”. In this show Jessica is extremely moving singing “On My Own”, followed by a hilarious Veronica in “Single Man Drought.”

Jessica has just gained A B and C in her A levels and will be practising midwifery at UWE – a course that offered only 36 places. We are SO proud of her achievements. Jessica is sponsored by Focus Interiors.

Tracey has always been an extremely loyal follower of Exit Stage Left. She is always helping in every way possible and has really excelled herself this time by helping the younger ones gain confidence by spending valuable time going through their numbers, helping them overcome their inhibitions.

Tracey has loved playing the drunken Miss Hannigan. Her last role was as a drunken fairy in Encore’s “Puss and Boots earlier this year. Hmm, we sense a bit of typecasting here!!
