As a B-Corp, Mark Miller Subaru voluntarily commits to: Having a corporate purpose to create a material positive impact on society and the environment. Consider the impact of our decisions on stakeholders, our employees, the community, and the environment. Provide to the public an annual benefit report that assesses our overall social and environmental performance against a third party standard. This is that report.

GREETINGS FROM

MARK MILLER SUBARU Neighbors, 2018 was an exceptional year for Mark Miller Subaru and the communities we serve! In fact, with the support of our customers and our community, Mark

Miller Subaru was named the 2018 Subaru Love Promise Retailer of the Year! This special distinction is awarded to only one Subaru Retailer across the entire United States! Mark Miller Subaru was picked because of our dedication to our customers and our commitment to making our world a better place. Candidly, it’s not the award that I will cherish most. It’s the memories surrounding our work which led us to receive that award that I will treasure for the rest of my life. From underwriting more than 2,000 nights of safety and warmth for homeless youth, to joining my father in saving 100+ homeless animals in a single day, my team and I have so much to be proud of. But it’s YOU that makes this possible. Your partnership with Mark Miller Subaru helps us fulfill this mission of doing good in our community. So, from the bottom of my heart, and on behalf of the charitable organizations we support, thank you! As you know, and in true Subaru fashion, Mark Miller Subaru isn’t afraid to take the road less traveled. As I reflect on Mark Miller Subaru’s 5-decades of service and business in Utah, I continue to be proud of how we’re disrupting the automotive industry both locally and nationally. From changing the way automotive stores do business, to helping create a common mentality that dealerships should do more for the community than sell cars, I know that Mark Miller Subaru has left an immeasurable ‘MARK’ on our world. But that’s not just my doing! I owe so much of our success to the 250+ human employees, and our one canine employee, who are committed to making our business better. We’re one team, with one mission, and one common purpose: to change the world. With that, I’m thrilled with the opportunity to provide you with Mark Miller Subaru’s 2018 Annual Report. You’ll hopefully learn more about our work in the community through the tenants of the Subaru Love Promise. The report also highlights the impressive Subaru Lineup, including the all-new, 2020 Subaru Outback on page 31. This completely redesigned Outback is the most adventurous, most reliable, safest, best Subaru Outback ever! We’re truly honored to be a part of this community! On behalf of my family, both at home and inside of our store, may 2019 be even more delightful, memorable, and successful than 2018. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for sharing your Subaru journey with us!

CONGRATULATIONS

TO THE PEOPLE OF MARK MILLER SUBARU!

The Mark Miller Subaru family lives by the motto “Leave a Mark.” And in Salt Lake City, there are not many places where they have not. Committed to Their Customers It starts in their store, where customer after customer raves about being treated far better than they would have ever expected. From the concierge delivery program that helps drivers better understand their new vehicles, to a full-service café for waiting customers, the staff at Mark Miller Subaru makes the experience comfortable and memorable. As recipients of the Subaru Love Promise Customer Commitment Award from 2012 through 2018 and the 2016 Utah Ethical Leadership Most Ethical Business Award, their commitment is indisputable.

Committed to Their Community It is no surprise for them that doing the right thing goes beyond running a car business. Whether helping homeless teens find a safe place to sleep and have a meal, or rescuing stray animals, the Miller family’s community commitment is unwavering. Overall, they have donated 9,475 overnight stays for homeless youth through Volunteers of America. And in partnership with Nuzzles & Co., they have helped save 125,000 homeless animals roaming the nearby Navajo and Ute Reservations. In recognition of excellence in customer experience and extraordinary commitment to their community, along with $7.4 million in charitable donations over the past seven years, it is our honor to name Mark Miller Subaru the 2018 Subaru Love Promise Retailer of the Year.

Love. It’s what makes a Subaru, a Subaru. pg

Congratulations to the people of Mark Miller Subaru and Subaru of America on being selected as the national recipients of the 2019 Ballington and Maud Booth Award, Volunteers of America’s Highest Honor! A letter from the national affiliate of Volunteers of America: Each year, Volunteers of America honors someone who epitomizes the American spirit of community service and civic involvement. Your incredible work to improve the lives of homeless youth through our Volunteers of America Utah affiliate has been a tremendous inspiration. Subaru’s Love Promise Community Commitment exemplifies our mission to reach and uplift all people. The impact you have made locally, coupled with Subaru Corporation’s dedication to strengthening humanity, wholly embodies the Ballington and Maud Booth Award: our organization’s highest honor. As the founders of Volunteers of America, Ballington and Maud Booth advocated for the homeless, the frail elderly and at-risk children and families, establishing a tradition of caring for those most in need within American society. Like you and Subaru, they practiced compassion and guided their neighbors through their present challenges until they could realize a brighter future. Thanks to your contributions,

including your astounding commitment to Maud’s Café, our homeless youth have a stable environment in which to grow into thriving, self-sufficient adults. The Booths’ passion continues to be at the heart of what we do today and why an award in their name is reserved for exemplary individuals like you. Past honorees include First Lady Laura Bush, former U.N. Ambassador Andrew Young, baseball player Cal Ripken, Jr., University of Miami president Donna Shalala, Gen. Eric Shinseki and fast-food tycoon Dave Thomas, among other community, national and world-wide philanthropists. With warm regards, Jatrice Martel Gaiter Executive Vice President, External Affairs

DO GOOD

FEEL GOOD Do Good Feel Good was Mark Miller Subaru’s first big campaign of 2018, and featured our amazing Love Promise Partners: Subaru Loves to Care: Volunteers of America Homeless Youth Center Subaru Loves Pets: Nuzzles & Co. Pet Rescue and Adoption Subaru Loves the Earth: HEAL Utah Subaru Loves to Help: The Malinois Foundation Subaru Loves Learning: Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum For every car sold during the month of May, customers were able to choose one Love Promise partner to receive a $75 donation from Mark Miller Subaru, resulting in nearly $30,000 donated to charity!

pg

5

Though the donations are the highlight of Do Good Feel Good, throughout the month, Suba Bleu Miller was busy doing his own good for others in our community through Random Acts of Kindness. For example, he paid for people’s coffee, hid gift cards in library books, delivered donuts to police officers, and left quarters on vending machines. The month concluded with Suba Bleu Miller, Mark Miller Subaru’s five Love Promise Partners and Mix 105.1 hosting a Celebration to bring the community together for a check presentation, and to give away the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek to one lucky individual out of 100 finalists. The 2018 Community Day featured coffee from Maud’s Café, Service Animal education and activities with the Malinois Foundation, family challenges with Discovery Gateway, a puppy snuggle lounge from Nuzzles & Co., a blow-up slide powered by a solar trailer provided by HEAL Utah’s partner, Creative Energies, and finally, the ‘Do Gouda’ sandwich from Even Stevens.

LOVE PROMISE STORIES A HIGHLIGHT OF OUR MARK IN 2018 1 Year, 15 Imprezas, 60k miles, 8,600 Lives Touched Over the past 12 months, and with the generous support of Mark Miller Subaru, employees and community members of Volunteers of America, Utah have driven more than 60,000 miles across our state, inside of 15 Subaru Imprezas, allowing us to touch the lives of over 8,600 individuals experiencing homelessness, mental illness, and addiction. While these individuals may not have the financial, mental, or physical capacity to own a Subaru of their own, we believe that this should not preclude them from receiving the love and care that a Subaru can so delicately and generously deliver. These Subaru Imprezas empower us to reach those who need our help, and they do so safely throughout the year. This includes, of particular importance, delivering support to individuals who’ve taken

shelter outdoors in the mountain valleys along the Wasatch Front. As one of the VOA’s Homeless Outreach Supporters, Mark Miller Subaru has helped to make this outreach effort possible. From assisting with financial contributions to collecting critical resources, such as food, clothing, and health care products, we’re able to aid the most vulnerable humans among us. When others look beyond the timid, lost, and sometimes fearful eyes of those in need of help, Volunteers of America and Mark Miller Subaru embrace these souls with open and devoted arms. That’s because every human on earth is deserving of compassion and love. It’s so fitting that we’re able to deliver care in a Subaru because, after all, it’s Love that makes a Subaru, a Subaru.

Paws and Patriots When members of the armed forces head into battle, they do so selflessly with a sense of pride and love for our country. These brave men and women sacrifice so much to protect and defend the freedoms that civilians enjoy on a daily basis. Upon their return, though, many service members find it difficult to reintegrate back into society because of the difficult circumstances they faced while in active duty. Mark Miller Subaru believes wholeheartedly that we have a social responsibility to help ‘ease’ their transition home because, after all, our ‘home’ – this country we all love - exists because of their brave service. One of the ways Mark Miller Subaru is able to support Veterans in our community is through our partnership with The Malinois Foundation. The Foundation is a local charity that provides fully-trained and accredited service animals for Veterans who’ve experienced mental, emotional, or physical trauma because of their service.

partners like the South Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce, Mark Miller Subaru was honored to place a newly trained service animal, Nicholas, with an Army Veteran during the annual ‘Paws and Patriots’ campaign. Paws and Patriots has one simple goal: to place services animals into the hands, hearts, and homes of the brave men and women who have sacrificed so much in service to our country. Dan, the Army Veteran who received Nicholas, had his entire world turned upside down during a 2008 military deployment in eastern Europe, where he became very

In fact, the average cost of a service animal is anywhere between $20,000 - $40,000 depending on their training. That’s where Mark Miller Subaru, with the generous support of Subaru of America, comes to their aide. Working with the Malinois Foundation and community

Upon receiving Nicholas during a placement ceremony, Dan mentioned that one of his biggest desires for a service dog was so he could stop being such a burden on his wife, and he said that Nicholas has already improved his life in just one weekend. The power of the Subaru Love Promise is unmatched because, through it, we can change the world. It was Mark Miller Subaru’s honor to help change Dan’s world by helping him receive Nicholas. While Dan’s past may have once held him back, his future is bright in the hands, er, ‘paws,’ of Nicholas. pg

EXPRESS SERVICE EXHIBIT Subaru’s commitment to “Love Learning” means more than just giving money away... It means creating meaningful experiences that could change the course of a person’s life for the better! Mark Miller Subaru and Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum are doing just that with the addition of the “Mark Miller Subaru Express Service Exhibit” now open in Salt Lake City, Utah. Our collective goal is to potentially change the ‘life trajectory’ of the nearly 250,000 children who visit Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum each year. “As vehicles become more technically advanced, the need for highly skilled technicians continues to increase. The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates the number of qualified technicians needed nationwide will rise to around 780,000 by the year 2024, representing a 5% YOY increase in demand” (Subaru University). With this knowledge, Mark Miller Subaru approached Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum with an idea: ‘could we create an experience inside of the Museum, and under the banner of Subaru Loves Learning, that offered young children an opportunity to explore and learn about automotive science?’ Without hesitation, Discovery Gateway said yes! After all, their mission is to inspire children of all ages and abilities to imagine, discover, and connect with their world to make a difference. By providing youth with unique learning experiences in their most formative years, experiences that inspire curiosity and passion, we can effectively address the growing needs of future society. The new Mark Miller Subaru Express Service exhibit at Discovery Gateway was designed to accomplish just that! And on August 31, 2018, after nearly six months of rigorous planning and construction, the Mark Miller Subaru Express Service Exhibit became a reality! This new, hands-on, and innovative space for learning features a child-sized, but still larger-than-life, 2019 Subaru Ascent! Children now have the opportunity to work under the hood on the Ascent’s Boxer Engine, change the oil, tighten lug nuts on all four tires, fill the gas tank, and other tasks that help teach kids the science that drives the Subaru Ascent. After getting into their uniform, young visitors’ step into

the role of a Subaru Technician and begin completing important tasks that help define the profession. Mark Miller Subaru and Discovery Gateway believe that it is important for our youth to have these sorts of hands-on learning experiences. It will be these experiences that help shape a child’s future and, subsequently, the future of Subaru.

MARK MILLER SUBARU #BACKSTHEBLUE Salt Lake County’s Police Force has been tested with challenging and unfortunate situations in the recent past. In fact, South Salt Lake’s LEO community lost its first peacekeeper, Officer David Romrell, towards the end of 2018. The loss of Officer Romrell sent shockwaves thru the County and, more intimately, the small community of South Salt Lake, the home of Mark Miller Subaru Midtown, a City that Officer Romrell worked tirelessly to keep safe. Officer Romrell, he gave-up everything, including his wife and new-born baby, in service to our community. Members of the Mark Miller Subaru team know that there is real and unmatched power in the Subaru Love Promise. It’s thru the Love Promise that we can lift those around us, especially those individuals in their greatest time of need. That’s why, following the passing of Officer Romrell, every manager on the Mark Miller Subaru team donated a portion of their Holiday paychecks to gift to Officer Romrell’s family. This donation was presented to Officer Romrell’s family, in honor of the Miller Family, with a note that read: “Officer David Romrell was an American Hero who dedicated his life to selflessly protect the lives of others. First as a Marine who valiantly served numerous deployments in Afghanistan to his passionate service to South Salt Lake City as a Law Enforcement Officer. Our hearts are broken to learn of his tragic death. Mark Miller Subaru stands with Officer Romrell’s wife, his 4-month-old baby, our Law Enforcement Community, and the City of South Salt Lake in this period of mourning.” In addition to raising money for Officer Romrell’s family over the holidays, Mark Miller Subaru, with the generous support of Subaru of America, also helped cover travel expenses for members of South Salt Lake’s Police Department to travel to Washington D.C. to honor Officer Romrell’s life during Police Memorial week at our Nation’s Capital. Police Officers are usually overworked, underpaid, and under-appreciated, but they continue to proudly wear their uniform and badge each day in the name of something bigger than themselves... they do it in the name of peace. Members of the Mark Miller Subaru team would be remiss without recognizing their courage, dedication, and sacrifice. These selfless Law Enforcement Officers are our heroes, and we are so grateful to them for their service!

Thank you for your service, Officer David Romrell. End of Watch 11/24/2018 pg

MARK MILLER SUBARU IN THE NEWS

Gift of Service Dog Gives Utah Veteran New Hope Deseret News • December 19, 2018

Car Dealer Donated Five Benches to Salt Lake City’s Herman Franks Dog Park

Daniel Seelye enlisted in the United States Army with the intention of helping soldiers and their families with emotional distress. Never in his wildest dreams would he believe he’d need similar help of his own. His issues aren’t related to combat, necessarily, but the soldier’s entire world turned upside down during a 2008 military deployment in eastern Europe. “I started feeling very ill really quickly,” said Seelye, of Hyrum. Extreme exhaustion and general sickness led to an eventual diagnosis of Addison’s disease, a disorder that affects the function of his adrenal gland and is caused by an autoimmune response. He suffers a variety of debilitating symptoms, including fatigue and weakness,

Fox 13 Utah • February 15, 2019 A local car dealer made a Valentine’s Day donation on behalf of Salt Lake City residents and their four-legged friends. Jeff Miller and Suba Bleu Miller of Mark Miller Subaru donated five new park benches to Herman Franks Dog Park Thursday. “While taking Suba Bleu Miller, Mark Miller Subaru’s four-legged employee, to our local dog park, members of my team noticed the growing number of broken plastic lawn chairs that would cycle through the park. Because there was a lack of seating in the park, residents would bring their own lawn chairs for respite. These plastic chairs, however, aren’t very durable and would eventually end up broken and in the garbage. This became a vicious cycle that we wanted to help end. My team and I sincerely hope that this donation will stop this cycle and will help keep Herman Franks Dog Park a clean, sustainable, and enjoyable spot for humans and dogs alike,” Jeff Miller wrote in a news release. Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski accepted the donation on behalf of SLC residents and thanked the Millers for the donation. “This is definitely one of the best Valentine’s Day gifts a mayor can receive! When companies like Mark Miller Subaru invest in our community, they invest in all of us. I am sure these new benches will become a great place for people to relax as their dogs get some exercise. I can’t wait to bring my dogs, Eva and Ember here,” Biskupski wrote.

as well as skin discoloration and neurological problems because of his disease, which occurred during his on-duty, overseas assignment. But perhaps the biggest impact of the soldier’s ailing health was felt by the family’s finances, as Seelye was out of work for almost a decade. “It was the toughest time of my life,” the father of four young kids said Wednesday. “I was homebound for a really long time.” There is no cure for Addison’s and treatment requires longterm medication and monitoring. He can’t be on his feet for long periods of time, getting up from sitting is unexpectedly hard, and being able to reach things is sometimes difficult. Thankfully, however, none of it is too much for his new best friend, Nick, a 10-month-old golden retriever-border

collie mix, who was able to go home with the Seelye family for good on Wednesday. The service dog is a gift from the local Service Paws and Patriots program, supported by a number of sponsors, but, particularly, the Malinois Foundation, Mark Miller Subaru and the South Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce.

Puppy Stolen from Humane Society Finds New Family ABC 4 News • December 3, 2018 A story of a stolen puppy that captured the attention of many now has a happy ending. Cookie, 2-month-old black and tan Cairn Terrier, was recently stolen from the Humane Society of Utah but found later thanks to police in the Meridian Police Department in Idaho. Cookie, now named Lucy, has her forever home after she was adopted by Mark Miller Subaru employee, Pete Phillbrook. The Phillbrook family met the puppy after she returned to Salt Lake City and fell in love. Lucy now has an older sister named Abby who is also a Cairn Terrier. Lucy’s adoption fee was covered by Mark Miller Subaru and Subaru of

America through their community charity initiative Subaru Love Promise. “The Subaru Love Promise is truly an incredible initiative,” says Mike Aguilar, director of Marketing for Mark Miller Subaru, “because we get to help turn horrible situations into something magical. Cookie’s destiny was unknown following her tragic disappearance, but now, with her return to Salt Lake City, her future is bright. I personally know the Philbrook family, and I know that this sweet 2-month-old puppy will live a happy, healthy, and fulfilling life. I’m so honored that Subaru helped make this possible!”

Nonprofit Teams Up With Mark Miller to Rescue Dozens of Dogs, Fly Them to Utah for Treatment Fox 13 Utah • May 31, 2018 A Utah non-profit, Nuzzles & Co., organizes animal rescues every year in the Navajo Nation near Kayenta, Arizona. Thursday was the largest mission this year. Starting at 5:45 a.m., volunteers loaded Mark Miller’s plane with kennels to bring back dogs and cats in need of immediate care from the reservation. “Down here on the reservation there’s a big issue with homeless animals and animals running stray,” said Jeff Miller, general manager for Mark Miller Subaru— who donated Subarus to transport more animals. Once the plane landed, volunteers took the kennels to one of the four animal shelters on the reservation. When the rescue missions first started in 2014, Nuzzles & Co. CEO Kathleen Weron said a quarter of a million pets were homeless. Now the Navajo Reservation only has around 80,000 animals without homes. “A lot of these animals were dying on the street of starvation or dehydration, or had been hit by a car, or injured by other animals,” Weron said. “They’ve dodged semi-trucks, coyotes. They’ve been shooed away. They’ve been hungry, and they’ve searched for water, and they’ve been through a lot.” Weron and her volunteers will bring the animals, given to them by the shelters, back to Utah where they will receive immediate care and therapy. “They’ll get them all cleaned up, give them shots, get them vaccinated, give them blankets,” Miller said. “There’s a big group waiting for us back home to give them all baths.” Holding a blue-heeler, Weron said it’s hard to watch the animals suffering, but that she is filled with hope for their future. “A day like today changes his life, but it also changes the life of a human being as well,” Weron said. Nuzzles & Co. posted on Facebook that they reached their goal of rescuing 100 animals in Thursday’s rescue mission, which included two plane trips and a caravan of Subarus. “The last five animals rescued today were a group of five-day-old puppies found abandoned on the side of the road in a cardboard box,” Nuzzles & Co., posted on Facebook. “Now, these tiny pups have bellies full of milk and are headed to Utah with 95 other animals who are just beginning their journey to finding their forever homes.” Weron said most of the dogs from Thursday’s rescue will be ready for adoption within the next week. pg

Nuzzles & Co. Pet Rescue and Adoption has a mission to protect animals. To provide a loving, nurturing place where animals can get healthy and learn positive behaviors before finding loving homes for each one of them. Nuzzles & Co. has a 16,000 square foot rescue ranch where animals receive necessary medical attention and training, as well as lots of love before they head to the adoption center in Park City, where animals are able to get a second chance at life. One of the most special things about Nuzzles & Co., is that they specifically look to rescue and save the most vulnerable animals in our community who are on euthanasia lists at other shelters due to old age or illness. They also focus their attention on rescuing animals from Indian Reservations, where there are tens of thousands of animals that roam freely, living in desolation in the desert. Due to Nuzzles & Co’s efforts, they’ve been able to reduce homeless animals on Indian Reservations from close to 400,000, down to 75,000.

Volunteers of America (VOA) provides many services to those in need in our community, but in our opinion, one of the most important ways that they serve our community is through their Homeless Youth Resource Center. Through the Homeless Youth Resource Center, the VOA provides year-round support for individuals living on the street through basic need items, education assistance, employment services and housing assistance. These youth who are living on the streets or in Utah’s vast mountain range have nowhere else to go, and are the most vulnerable. So the VOA go to them to bring them food and clothing, check on their safety, and gain their trust, so eventually, they feel comfortable to come to the shelter. Once Volunteers of America is able to build a relationship, youth might come to the shelter to have a shower, do laundry or get some food. But eventually, they can do more than meet their basic needs. They can assist them with getting identification, helping them complete their education, seek employment, find housing, and get them the mental health and addiction counseling they need. The support provided by Volunteers of America has a goal of opening the door to self-sufficiency and happiness for the most vulnerable youth in our community.

Mark Miller Subaru offered many other ways for the community to get involved, including putting up ‘Share the Love Giving Trees’ in locations throughout the community, providing individuals with an opportunity to still support these two amazing organizations, even if they weren’t in the market for a new Subaru. ‘Suba Bleu Cider’ was also brought back for the second year in a row, with the help of Mountain West Hard Cider, which was available at 9 different restaurants throughout the city, and provided a $1 donation to Nuzzles & Co. and Volunteers of America for every bottle sold. Throughout Share the Love, Mark Miller Subaru also offered ‘12 Days of Free Family Fun,’ which provided families with fun and free activities to bring them together during the holidays. Some of these activities included a Utah Jazz Basketball Game, Megaplex Movies, Ornament Decorating, a night at Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum and a Utah Grizzlies Hockey Game. Because being with your family is the most important part of the holidays. pg

WHAT’S SUBA BLEU BEEN UP TO?

Good Men in Kilts When asked to participate in the ‘Good Men in Kilts’ campaign to help raise funds for Ronald McDonald House Charities, Suba Bleu Miller jumped at the opportunity! Bleu teamed up with Ollie (Ronald McDonald House Charities Therapy Dog), they put on their kilts, went out into the community and started ‘begging’ for donations. After a month-long campaign, and many events rocking their kilts, Suba Bleu and Ollie were able to raise over $5,000 for Ronald McDonald House Charities! Funds are used to help keep families with sick children together, and near to the medical care and resources they need.

Home Visits To help students in our community prepare to return to school, Suba Bleu figured out what supplies different classrooms were in need of, and got to work! He was able to purchase all sorts of supplies, such as tissues, markers, pencils, snacks, and even a printer for a classroom in a portable, where the teacher struggled to make copies without leaving her students unattended. Of course, Suba Bleu made sure to deliver the items himself so he could stop in and get some love in return!

Random Acts of Kindness Nothing feels better than giving love away, which is what Suba Bleu was able to do all year long! Through his Random Acts of Kindness, Bleu hoped to brighten people’s day and encourage them to pay it forward. He passed out flowers to individuals at the park, he hid gift cards in books at the library and in shopping carts at the grocery store, he paid for people’s coffee, left quarters in vending machines and much more! Suba Bleu’s Random Acts of Kindness is a good reminder that you can do something small, but make a big impact.

SUBARU FUN IN UTAH

FOR THE ENTIRE FAMILY Mark Miller Subaru’s Top Nine Stargazing Spots Natural Bridges National Monument Imagine sitting out on a warm, moonless, summer night looking through a massive natural bridge where it’s Possible to see up to 15,000 stars throughout the sky. That is A lot of Stars! Lucky for us, Natural Bridges National Monument has made protecting its dark sky a priority. On March 6th, 2007, Natural Bridges National Monument became the first International Dark Sky Park certified by the International Dark-Sky Association. The goal of a Dark Sky Park is to preserve the skies and educate the public about light pollution and how they can make a difference.

pg

Cedar Breaks Come and enjoy the stunning river of light formed by the milky way at Cedar Breaks through their Astronomy Programs (aka “Star Parties”) throughout the summer. Cedar Breaks is the first in Southwestern Utah and 16th of the 417 National Park Service units to be designated as an International Dark Sky Park. And In 2016 readers of USA Today voted Cedar Breaks as the “Best National Park Night Experience.”

Arches National Park If you are like most people and live in or near a city, you may be surprised by how dark a moonless night at the Arches National Park can be. As you drive away from the Glow of urban settlement, a wealth of stars becomes

available for the naked eye to see. On a clear night, you can see hundreds of stars from just about anywhere in the park. However, if you would like our recommendation, try stargazing from these points: • Balanced Rock Picnic Area • The Windows • Garden of Eden Viewpoint • Panorama Point

Bryce Canyon National Park Bryce Canyon National Park has some of the most astonishing and captivating views of the Night sky. The park is so dark that on a moonless night you can see up to 5,000 Stars with your naked eye and maybe 200,000 with standard binoculars! With claims from National Parks services “that Venus and Jupiter are bright enough to make you cast a shadow!” There is no time to waste!

Antelope Island When you Stargaze on Antelope Island you’ll feel bad for your friends in Salt Lake City missing out. While they are going to sleep on a skimpy diet of 200 stars, you’re overindulging on the 1,500 stars visible from the west side of the island. Antelope island is the ninth park in the state of Utah to be recognized as a International Dark Sky Park by the International Dark Sky Park Association. As the biggest Island in the Great Salt Lake, Antelope Island has a Lot of Natural Beauty to offer both In the skies and below.

Stansbury Park If you are new to stargazing, and don’t know where to start, make sure to visit Stansbury Park during one of their monthly stargazing parties. Stansbury Park is owned and operated by the Salt Lake Astronomical Society, and during their monthly stargazing parties, amateur astronomers will set up their telescopes to let viewers check out the moon, planets and other wonders in the sky. One of the telescopes, the Clements, is thought to be the largest amateur-made optical telescope on Earth that is regularly available for use by the public.

Emigration Canyon If you’re looking for a quick stargazing trip, just head about 5 miles up Emigration Canyon, and set up along one of the many pull-outs along the road. You’ll get some light pollution from the valley, but this is a great location to watch for meteors and identify constellations.

Bonneville Salt Flats Just drive West on I-80, and you’ll enter the deserted, 30,000 acres of the Bonneville Salt Flats. The Salt Flats offers a break from city light pollution and with its low horizons, you’ll have a phenomenal view of the wide open skies.

Lake Powell When you visit Lake Powell late July to mid-August, you’ll find yourself in the perfect spot to catch some of the best meteor showers in Utah. Away from major light pollution from busy cities, it doesn’t get any better than looking up into the beautiful star-filled night sky from a boat in the middle of a serene lake.

Did You Know? Subaru is not only the single largest corporate donor to the US National Parks Foundation, but we also share our sustainability and zerolandfill expertise with the Parks. Our in-depth collaboration with the National Parks Foundation ensures that our National Parks are healthy and vibrant today, and for many years to come.

LEARNING AT HOME IS EASY! Learning at home is easy! Try these fun, creative, and engaging activities at home with your children. Parents are a child’s first and most important teacher and teaching your child through play creates lasting memories and a positive outlook towards learning and connecting with their world! These activities were handpicked by Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum educators as their favorite at-home activities and experiments! Watercolor Crayon Resist Painting

In this classic art activity, children will discover how different materials mix (or don’t mix!) together. The wax in crayons resists (repels) the watercolor away because the crayon wax is made from oil, and oil and water do not mix. Materials: Paper (thicker paper or watercolor paper works best) Crayons (lighter colors or white) Paint Brush Watercolor Paints (dark or bold colors) How to: 1. Draw a picture on the paper with crayons. 2. Use the water color to paint on the paper and the spots you colored with the crayon. Watch as the crayon resists the watercolor and comes to life on the paper! This is especially awesome when using white crayon on white paper.

Cloud in a Jar

Ever wonder how clouds are formed? This exciting science experiment puts children at the forefront of discovery as they make their own cloud while learning how clouds are formed! With the help of household items, your children can gain a deeper understanding of the world around them. Materials: A Jar with a Lid

Ice Cream Puffy Painting

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! In this activity, children can create their very own puffy ice cream painting using shaving cream, Elmer’s glue, and food coloring to mix up their favorite flavor.

About 1/3 cup Hot Water (or enough to fill the jar up halfway) Ice Cubes Hairspray How to:

Materials: Cardstock

1. Pour hot water into the jar. Swirl hot water around to warm up the sides of the jar.

Glue Stick

2. Put the lid upside down on top of the jar.

Elmer’s Glue

3. Place several ice cubes onto the lid and allow it to rest on the top of the jar for about 20 seconds.

Shaving Cream Food Coloring or Liquid Water Color Popsicle Sticks or Spoon Bowl Tempura Paint (optional) Q-tips (optional) How to: 1. Either draw your own ice cream cones or print out a template online on cardstock 2. Squirt equal parts glue and shaving cream into bowls (one per bowl per color) 3. Mix the glue and shaving cream together until it is a puffy, thick consistency 4. Ask children what their favorite flavor of ice cream is or have them make up their own flavor. Mix in food coloring or paint to create each color of ice cream. 6. Using a popsicle stick or spoon, show children how to spread the ice cream on, keeping the puffy paint consistency and not spreading it too thin. 7. Using tempura paint and Q-Tips, children can add in “mix-ins” such as blueberries or chocolate chips to their ice cream cones! 8. The paint will take several hours (up to 24 hours) to completely dry. Afterwards, you and your child will have a soft, puffy ice cream cone to hang on the fridge!

4. Remove the lid and quickly spray a bit of hairspray into the jar, replace the lid with the ice still on top. 5. Watch the cloud form! 6. When a good amount of condensation forms, remove the lid and watch the cloud escape into the air. What’s Happening? When you add the warm water to the jar, some of the water turns into water vapor. The water vapor rises to the top of the jar where it meets the cold air from the ice cubes. Water vapor turns from a gas to a liquid (condenses) when it cools down, and clouds form when the water vapor has something to condense onto. In this experiment, the water vapor condensed onto the hairspray. In nature, water vapor can condense onto dust particles, air pollution, and pollen to create clouds!
