HELPING PROTECT PRIVACY AND THE ENVIRONMENT ON EARTH DAY

RECYCLING WITH US – ACCEPTING YOUR HARD-TO-RECYCLE ITEMS

Mark Miller Subaru partnered with Recycle Utah to host a Community Paper Shredding Event in Park City, which collected, shredded, and recycled 2 tons of private documents in April 2021. Recycle your waste (Summit County residents) with Recycle Utah and support their programs to help protect our water, save our landfills, and educate the next generation at recycleutah.org.

For the fourth consecutive year, Mark Miller Subaru led an effort to help our customers and community properly recycle wrapping paper after Christmas to divert this holiday waste from landfills. Collectively, we filled six large Zero Waste boxes from TerraCycle for proper recycling. A common mistake many people make around the holidays is loading their recycling bins with wrapping paper, tissue, ribbons, and more. Unfortunately, the shiny, laminated paper is, in fact, not recyclable in most circumstances.

Including it in the bin with other paper products can make an entire load unrecyclable. Did you know, you can collect your snack wrappers and disposable cups, lids, and straws at home and drop them off at Mark Miller Subaru in our TerraCycle Zero Waste Boxes for us to handle these hard-to-recycle items? Our individual conservation actions can make a big impact. We invite you to join us in our Subaru Loves the Earth initiatives!

ROUND VALLEY TRAIL CLEANUP More than 40 volunteers met at Quinn’s Junction Trailhead to help clean up the Round Valley Trails and beautify the places we love to recreate for a spring clean-up event hosted by Summit Land Conservancy. Volunteers collected 28 bags of trash and waste, making the trails we love more enjoyable for all. Mark Miller Subaru joined to support volunteers with snacks and drinks to keep everyone fueled and hydrated. Did you know, Summit Land Conservancy protects over 800 acres of open space in Round Valley in partnership with Park City Municipal and the Osguthrope Family? FINDING FOREVER HOMES DURING SUBARU LOVES PETS MONTH To celebrate Subaru Loves Pets month in October, Mark Miller Subaru partnered with Nuzzles & Co., one of our favorite pet rescue and adoption centers. We made a $6,200 donation and helping a total of 161 pets find their forever homes. We also hosted a free adoption event at our South Towne location on National Make a Dog’s Day, October 22, where 16 dogs and cats found new homes, including some loving Underdogs (hard to adopt pets).

Nearly 60,000 shelter animals have been adopted in the last two years alone since Subaru began our national Subaru Loves Pets adoption campaign. Looking to adopt?

BLEU + WHITE = GREEN The world lost a national treasure at the end of 2021 when Betty White died at age 99, just three short weeks before her 100th birthday. To commemorate her missed celebration and honor her love for animals and the shelters/rescue groups that work to save them, fans held a Betty White Challenge to raise money for and awareness around these groups. Here at Mark Miller Subaru, our very own Suba Blue hosted a Facebook challenge on his page for the most tags for a local animal group. Congratulations to Community Animal Welfare Society (CAWS) for winning with over 100 tags! We made a $500 donation to CAWS, and an additional $500 donation to the runner up, Lazy B Equine Rescue & Sanctuary. We had fun channeling Betty White when delivering the winners their checks! Bleu will always hold a special place in his heart for Betty White.

NATIONAL DOG DAY WITH STREET DAWG CREW National Dog Day takes place every August 26, where dog owners everywhere give their furry companions some extra love on this special day. Mark Miller Subaru and Bjorn’s Brew teamed up to host a pet food collection drive to support Street Dawg Crew of Utah. Together, we raised $5,000 and collected several hundred pounds of pet food to support their programs that serve the pets and pet owners of the homeless community and other low-income populations. Bjorn’s Brew is our local coffee shop that serves delicious coffee and treats, all while donating to local animal charities like Street Dawg Crew of Utah.

HOMELESS PET SURVIVAL KITS BUILT FOR THOSE IN NEED Mark Miller Subaru staff formed an assembly line to compile Homeless Pet Survival Kits, which included blankets, pet food, pet treats, pet toys, hand/foot warmers, and other critical pet and human supplies to keep our homeless neighbors and pets safe, fed, and warm throughout the winter months. Our employees helped distribute more than 100 kits, handing them out on their daily commutes. This idea to help those in need comes from Street Dawg Crew of Utah. streetdawgcrew.org.

READ ACROSS AMERICA WITH DR. SUESS Each year, National Read Across America Day is celebrated on March 2, the birthday of Dr. Seuss, with a different theme to bring awareness to the importance of reading in education and help motivate kids to read more. To celebration last year, we partnered with Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum to join their kids’ activities. One of our Mark Miller Subaru staff members hosted a virtual reading of “The Lorax” by Dr. Suess—one of our favorites! Every day is a good day for reading, but we look forward to this special occasion to re-energize the excitement of reading among kids in a national and collective effort.

SALT LAKE COMMUNITY COLLEGE AUTOMOTIVE PROGRAM Mark Miller Subaru donated a transmission, short block, and a long block to the SLCC Automotive Program so that professors would have more equipment to use for instruction with students.

NEW PARTNERSHIP WITH ADOPT-A-CLASS.ORG Most teachers spend an average of $750 a year out of their own pocket on supplies for students who cannot afford them. That’s why last year Subaru of America, Inc. announced a new partnership with AdoptAClassroom. org as the new national Subaru Loves Learning partner.

AdopAClassroom.org is a non-profit that helps teachers get the school supplies they need for their students, so students can focus on what matter most—learning. In the first year of the partnership, Subaru and participating retailers across the nation supported 114,000 students.

Locally, Mark Miller Subaru adopted 6 classrooms each at Millcreek Elementary and Kearns Jr. High, donating $6,000 to help those teachers purchase classroom supplies for their students.

NEW: DISCOVERY GATEWAY CHILDREN’S MUSEUM AT MARK MILLER SUBARU Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum has been a longtime partner of Mark Miller Subaru, and together we have created some unique and fun Subaru Loves Learning opportunities for our community. In May of 2018, we opened the “Mark Miller Subaru Express Service Exhibit” inside the Children’s Museum, featuring a kid-sized model of a Subaru Ascent that is interactive for all ages. We were the first in Utah to take Subaru inside a Children’s Museum, and now we are the first to bring a Children’s Museum inside a Subaru retailer store! We are excited to announce our new “Discovery Gateway Children’s Museums at Mark Miller Subaru.” After closing our kids’ playrooms for nearly two years due to the pandemic, they are now back and better than ever! The exhibit staff at Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum designed, created, and installed our new “miniature” exhibits inside our stores. In total, there are three miniature museums—one at our Midtown location and two at our South Towne location—that provide our service and sales guests and their children the opportunity to connect through play and learn through our hands-on exhibits and activity stations. To celebrate, we hosted an Open House on February 2, 2022, with a ribbon cutting ceremony, free food and snacks, a special activity station, and free family passes to Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum for everyone who attended. Our hope is that now when customers visit our stores with their kids, they will leave with memories that will inspire them to keep learning and exploring the world in new ways! WATCHING OUT FOR THOSE WHO WATCHED OUR SIXES It should come as no surprise that after serving in the military and fighting in wars, many service members face difficulties as they transition from military to civilian life. Specifically, those veterans who say they had an emotionally traumatic experience while serving or had suffered a serious service-related injury were significantly more likely to report problems with re-entry. That’s why The Malinois Foundation was formed, to help by healing through canine assistance. For the past four years, Mark Miller Subaru has supported their life-saving work of providing service dogs and training to individuals in need with both physical and/or mental impairments, and through Mark Miller Subaru’s financial support they have placed 35 service dogs and provided 1800 hours of volunteer service dog training to individuals who would not have otherwise been able to afford these services. NATIONAL MILITARY SPOUSE APPRECIATION DAY Life in the military can be challenging, especially when service members are separated from their loved ones while on deployment. Spouses become the proverbial glue that hold the house together. Military Spouse Appreciation Day is when we recognize the sacrifices made by military member spouses and give them the credit due. We asked service members to tell us how much they appreciate

their spouse and the sacrifices made for a chance to win a day of pampering for their loved one at The Cliff Spa at Snowbird. We would like to share the story of our winner, submitted by Jacquelin.

PAYING TRIBUTE TO THE HEROES THAT LIVE HERE Veterans Day is a time for the nation to give pause and honor the countless neighbors, friends, family, and other individuals who have served our country to defend democracy and our freedoms. For the second year, Mark Miller Subaru teamed up with our Loves Veterans partner, The Malinois Foundation on Veterans Day to honor the men and women who have “watched our six” and kept us safe over the years! To celebrate their sacrifice, we held an open nomination process for people to submit a veteran they know or love to have a special sign placed in their yard on Veterans Day that reads “A Hero Lives Here.” More than 50 signs were placed in the yards of local veterans throughout Salt Lake and surrounding counties. Although we work each and every day to honor our veterans, there’s something special about Veterans Day when we all come together to voice our thanks and love to the many men and women who sacrificed so much for our great nation!

SUBARU AND UTAH FOR UKRAINE Utah has a long tradition of supporting and welcoming refugees in need. We are also home to over 1,500 Ukrainian neighbors. The suffering in Ukraine is creating a massive need to join together and help a community in crisis. Compassion and love are just part of our ethos here at Mark Miller Subaru, so we knew we had to help. At the beginning of the conflict, Jeff Miller and Mark Miller Subaru announced they would match all donations to the Utah For Ukraine Fund, up to $10,000! Subaru Corporation, on behalf of Subaru distributors around the globe, also announced their support by donating €1,000,000 to the United Nations Refugee Agency. Additionally, Subaru of America Foundation matched $3 for every $1 donated by Subaru of America employees in March–raising $100,000 in support of the millions of refugees impacted by the crisis in Ukraine. Mark Miller Subaru and the entire international Subaru Family sincerely hope for a swift end to the crisis and a return to peace as soon as possible for people in Ukraine and around the world.

DONATING BLOOD TO SAVE LIVES The blood supply in the U.S. recently hit a 10-year low due to the pandemic and has left blood centers scrambling for donors over the past three years. This growing demand has life or death consequences for those in need. When the pandemic started, Mark Miller Subaru stepped up and partnered with ARUP Blood Services to start hosting on-site blood drives. DREAM CHASERS, PRESENTED BY MARK MILLER SUBARU In 2015, Ian Acker founded Fit To Recover, a recovery community and nonprofit that helps people in sobriety connect through fitness, nutrition, creative arts and community service. What began with a Facebook post and a boombox with a handful of people has become a thriving recovery community in Salt Lake City, helping thousands transform their lives. Last year, Fit to Recover produced a documentary: ‘Dream Chasers: The Fit to Recover Story’ that chronicles the origin of the Fit To Recover gym and highlights their four pillar approach. Documenting the lives of five individuals empowered by Fit To Recover’s programming, the film tells a tale of community, acceptance, and resilience. STUFF THE BUS: HELPING KIDS WITH BACK-TO-SCHOOL SUPPLIES

Gently used clothing donations from the public help Big Brothers Big Sister of Utah (BBBSU) support 350 kids (Littles) annually through their youth mentorship programs. It’s an important part of their fundraising efforts that businesses and community groups participate in every year by hosting collection drives. Mark Miller Subaru participated in an Easter Egg Hunt event that doubled as a clothing collection drive to support BBBSU. Want to help? Mark Miller Subaru collected two mini-buses full of school supplies for Stuff the Bus, an annual program by United Way of Salt Lake to help send 13,000 Utah kids back to school with backpacks, notebooks, pencils, and other necessities that promote confidence and eliminate barriers to success.

The impact of these supplies lasts beyond the first days of school: great writing ability, mastering essential math skills, and even a life-long love of art start early. GIVING COMFORT AND WARMTH TO THOSE EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS In recognition of National Homeless Youth Awareness Month this past November, Subaru of America donated 50,000 blankets to homeless shelters across the country, and locally Mark Miller Subaru donated 160 blankets to the Volunteers of America, Utah Youth Resource Center. Earlier that day, staff from our sister store Mark Miller Toyota volunteered to cook breakfast for the youth. The Miller Family exemplifies how uniting for a common cause is the most powerful thing we can do as community neighbors to support one another during hard times!

DAY OF CARING WITH UNITED WAY OF SALT LAKE United Way of Salt Lake hosts an annual Day of Caring for local businesses to participate in volunteer projects to help build our community. On September 9, 2021, ten Mark Miller Subaru employees volunteered their time at Midvale Elementary to dismantle an old garden and create a new buddy garden space with a Little Free Library.

We teamed up to support their “Spreading Love” Pride flag staking campaign, where people can sign up to have a Pride flag staked in their yard to show their dedication to LOVE during Utah Pride Week. In 2021, Project Rainbow staked over 4,000 Pride flags throughout the state. We encouraged everyone who received a flag to share with us what PRIDE means to them. At the end of Utah Pride Week, we compiled a short video of all the submissions to show the world our different colors of love. We also celebrated among our staff by featuring some of the powerful women who help make Mark Miller Subaru a wonderful place to work, visit, and do business. While we are proud to do this in honor of Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day, we feel that every day should be a day to honor and thank women everywhere who have paved the path for future generations and have fought and continue to fight for equality, inclusion, diversity, empathy, respect, and so much more!

More than a decade of operating his business in Idaho, Fred Carleson moved to Salt Lake region and offered an exceptional opportunity for business development.

That same year, Fred and his brother Harry Carleson opened the first Ford dealership in Sa 500 South. Shortly after, they relocated to a new, state-of-the art facility at 535 S. Main Stre current home of the Grand America Hotel.

The effects of the Great Depression impacted nearly every aspect of life, including the auto industry. The next five years, 1934-1939, were very difficult and trying years for Fred and H the biggest challenge was navigating a crisis of conscious surrounding their business rela with Henry Ford, a known Nazi sympathizer and overall unethical business partner.

In his personal memoir, Fred recalls: “Along with selling Ford products, we were given quo subscribers to Mr. Ford’s publication, The Dearborn Independent, which was full of anti-Se content.” This requirement by Ford was soon suspended following a lawsuit and the public terminated.

The roots of our present day Mark Miller Subaru store began over 100 years ago in Idaho Falls, ID, where Fred. A. Carleson owned and operated his own Ford Agency.

1996 In its early years, Kia was full of ups and downs and four short years after acquiring the franchise, Mark sold Kia in order to purchase a Buick franchise.

Laury approached his son Mark with an opportunity that would change the course of his future. The Office Manager/Fixed Operations Manager was leaving the company and Laury offered the position to Mark, but only gave him 3 days to decide. Mark left college to take the job and officially entered the car business full-time.

He trained for about 2 weeks before he was on his own.

Laury was presented with an opportunity to be awarded either a Subaru or Honda franchise.

Although Subaru was not well-known at the time and not the obvious choice, the final decision was made by a random coin flip and Subaru won. This was the beginning of Laury Miller Pontiac-Subaru.

As the Subaru brand continued to grow and gain market share, Mark opened his first standalone Subaru dealership under the name Mark Miller Subaru at 3734 South State Street, while Mark Miller Pontiac kept the 3535 South State Street location.

After more than two decades of being the business leader, Laury Miller sold the dealership to his son Mark Miller, making Mark one of the youngest General Motors dealers in the country at age 26.

This marks the second transfer (third generation) of the family business.

1980

Laury moved the dealership to 3535 S State Street in addition to dropping Cadillac and GMC trucks from the dealership lineup. This location will become the future home of Mark Miller Subaru and is where we currently operate today.

1990 Mark purchases a Toyota dealership in downtown Salt Lake City, introducing Toyota to the portfolio of automobiles. Mark Miller Toyota opens at 84 West 700 South, creating three dealership locations for the business: Mark Miller Pontiac, Mark Miller Subaru, and Mark Miller Toyota.

Larry H. Miller started his first Toyota dealership in Salt Lake City in 1979.

Although there was no family relation between the two, the public confusion between Laury Miller and Larry Miller was so confounding that Mark and Larry negotiated a settlement in which Larry would operate his dealerships under Larry H. Miller and Mark would change his dealership name to Mark Miller Pontiac-Subaru.

Subaru of America, Inc. and participating retailers hosted the 14th annual Subaru Share the Love Event this past holiday season, donating more than $225 million to charity since the inception of the event! Do Good Feel Good takes place each May and is Mark Miller Subaru’s longest running charity event for our Love Promise partners. We celebrated the 14th annual Do Good Feel Good in 2021 and donated more than $43,000 to our amazing charity partners.

For every car sold during Do Good Feel Good, Mark Miller Subaru donates $75 to the Love Promise partner of the customer’s choice. But it’s more than just writing checks, it’s about bringing the community together to build awareness around our charity partners and share their stories. It provides an opportunity for customers to interact with our partners, and share their own story. It gives our partners a platform to show the public the critical programs they provide our community, and the lives they touch and help.

At the end of the campaign, we hosted a Community Day celebration at Mark Miller Subaru South Towne and presented our partners with their donation checks. The Community Day included Mix 105.1 and featured food trucks and activities provided by our Love Promise partners. The event concluded with one lucky customer discovering their golden key to win a 3-year lease on a 2021 Subaru Impreza!

GOLDEN KEY CAR GIVEAWAY

To celebrate 2021 Do Good Feel Good and give the larger community a chance to get involved, we held a car giveaway for a 3-year lease on a 2021 Subaru Impreza. We hid seven golden keys throughout the Salt Lake Valley and posted clues on social media for people to find these golden keys. Community members who found the golden keys accelerated to the final round of choosing a key to see if that was the lucky key to start the Impreza.

PRI N C I P L ES OF LOVE IN AC TIO N A customer recently came into our Midtown Service Center with a liftgate issue after not being able to get an appointment at another Subaru retailer. Service Manager, Tony Soria, noticed a wheelchair in the back. The customer told Tony how the liftgate issue was preventing her disabled husband from being able to get his wheelchair out of their Subaru, causing him to use crutches. Troubled by the news, Tony took immediate action to get the customer’s car fixed and set them up with a loaner vehicle while their car was being serviced. This particular customer, and their extended family, currently own 16 Subaru vehicles, but whether you own 16 or one, a stellar customer experience is what you can expect at Mark Miller Subaru. Thank you, Tony, for always putting our customers first and treating them like family, and congratulations on receiving the 2021 Love Promise Manager of the Year Award!

Christmas outreach for our unsheltered neighbors

Fit To Recover (FTR) is a community that helps people in sobriety connect with one another and seek balance in their lives through our core foundational pillars of Fitness, Nutrition, Community Service, and Creative Arts. My job at FTR is to coordinate our community service projects, and the latest one our members and volunteers lead was a Christmas outreach for our unsheltered neighbors. Our community pulled together to give donations throughout the year. Thanks to Mark Miller Subaru and many different treatment centers and friends, we were able to make over 150 gift bags with essentials like hats and gloves, blankets and coats, hand warmers and toiletries, and much more. More than 76 volunteers gathered on Christmas Eve to organize the donations, create the bags, and cook burritos in preparation to pass them out to our unsheltered neighbors on Christmas Day. We visited the homeless shelter and some homeless camps in the downtown Salt Lake City area to pass everything out and give some special love to the most vulnerable of our population that are often forgotten about during the holidays--showing up for them and for each other. Not only was this important for our unsheltered community, but many of our members struggling with substance misuse have a hard time during the holidays, including myself. Many of our members have also experienced homeless at some point in their lives, so being able to spend this Christmas together was the biggest difference Fit To Recover could make for our community, providing winter essential items and bringing joy and hope while supporting our community to make it stronger. We want to especially thank Mark Miller Subaru for all the support and donated items for our gift bags (including the bags themselves) for this Christmas service project. Only by caring for each other, being there for each other, and helping each other out in times of greatest crises can we survive and grow as a community!

Love Promise and Rainbows

As Utah natives and loyal Subaru owners, we were thrilled when we heard that our local Mark Miller Subaru had partnered with Project Rainbow in support of our LGBTQ+ community. We currently own our fifth Subaru because of the safety and reliability that it provides for our family during our summer/winter outdoor adventures. We have also been supporters of Project Rainbow’s flag program since we heard about it a few years ago. This year we volunteered to be our neighborhood liaisons to help spread word of their mission even further. The Project Rainbow flag program allows community members to have a rainbow flag staked at their home to help fund campaigns that promote LGBTQ+ visibility throughout Utah. We are a family who values diversity and this is a neat way for us to show our LGBTQ+ ally status. This year, we flew our flag extra high in honor of our middle child who recently came out as non-binary. We feel lucky to raise our children in a world where they can explore who they actually are instead of who others expect them to be. We are so proud of our child, and it has been fun getting to know them in a whole new way. I can’t imagine how freeing it must be! A million thanks to Mark Miller Subaru and to Project Rainbow for partnering together to stake 4,500 flags during this year’s Utah Pride Week! The sight of all the rainbows gave me hope that someday children like mine will be free to just BE. (including the bags themselves) for this Christmas service project. Only by caring for each other, being there for each other, and helping each other out in times of greatest crises can we survive and grow as a community!

The metaphorical grapevine began to blossom early on the morning of June 25, 2021 as employees of Mark Miller Subaru awoke to begin their day. That’s because word rapidly began to spread among Mark Miller Subaru’s 258 employees that its owner, Jeff Miller, had decided to enrich the lives of the entire workforce by investing $1,418,625.00 worth of direct payments to every Mark Miller Subaru employee, an average of $5,498.55 per employee, in one single day of generosity, all in the spirit of the Love Promise. Why? Because, in Jeff’s own words, ‘caring for our own family is more critical than it has ever been. The Subaru Love Promise is a powerful tool for creating an immense amount of good in our world. Typically the emphasis on investing financial resources leans in the direction of local charity which is, and will always be, a critical element in ensuring that Subaru continues to be more than a Car Retailer. However, a community of homes can only stand if its foundation is secure. Sadly, the past 18 months have been incredibly challenging for our workforce in a myriad of ways, and the foundation in our community was beginning to crack. While the Miller Family has certainly continued to support charity during the difficult era of Covid-19, Jeff Miller decided that the work to manifest the Love Promise in our community was only one element of lifting people up in their greatest time of need. To that end, Jeff decided that it was time to turn his philanthropic energy inward, and to invest in those employees who not only make Mark Miller Subaru a special place, but who themselves were not immune to the negative impacts that the Pandemic created. So, after some thoughtful consideration of what he could do

to positively impact Mark Miller Subaru’s workforce, he decided that an investment of nearly $1.5 million dollars directly into the hands of his employees would leave an undeniable MARK on their lives and on the lives of their families… and it did. The Millers have long believed that ‘if you take care of your employees, they’ll take care of your customers and community, and the rest will take care of itself.’ In fact, this belief instantly manifested itself into reality following the news of the financial investment into the Mark Miller Subaru team. Not only was positive energy palpable across our sister stores, but employees began expressing their gratitude by doing what Subaru employees do best: by giving back to the community. Countless employees not only began paying off childcare, housing, and other forms of debt acquired because of the pandemic, but employees began making substantial gifts to local charity in the spirit of the Love Promise! Employees like Marty Hood, a frontline and entry-wage Call Center employee who made a very sizeable and personally meaningful gift to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, a charitable cause that has a special place in his heart. Many other organizations benefited from the generosity of Mark Miller Subaru’s employees as well! From causes that care for pets to those causes that champion on behalf of our environment, Jeff’s investment into his workforce created a large ripple effect that spread positive energy and goodwill throughout the State of Utah, and this is precisely the power that the Subaru Love Promise holds. While some individuals may be hesitant about sharing their personal treasure with others, this philanthropic spirit has never come as a challenge to the Miller family. This generous spirit has been passed down from generation to generation and continues to make Mark Miller Subaru a special place in our local community. Afterall, when our foundation begins to crack it’s the Miller family’s dedication to the Love Promise that makes our community whole again. On behalf of the 258 employees of Mark Miller Subaru, thank you to Jeff Miller and the Miller family for their generosity, their kindness, and – above all else - for sharing their heart with us in our greatest time of need.

2021 Suba Bleu Scramble Last year we hosted our 27th Annual Suba Bleu Scramble, a customer appreciation golf tournament and fundraiser for our Love Promise program. The event is one of our highlights, where the tournament winners get to select which of the charities they met at each hole gets awarded tiered donations.
