At 2:30 p.m. we get the next wave of calls to vampires. We have four that committed hooky and don’t answer the phone call. And we have two more that say they can’t come in. I believe the clinics may start calling doctors, but I doubt any doctors will answer on July 4th weekend. That supposes there is not a ‘renegade vampires ’ alerting system, or at least this wouldn’t trigger it.

It was a hard decision to jump into this adventure, but the commute to Santa Maria was killing me. Mentally if not literally: I wanted to spend time with my family and the hours were being sucked away from us. I should be appreciative to have any more time with them, and I am, but I would like more if that is at all possible. So we play a gambit to try to get a better employment deal. This isn ’t like me at all, but Mark is clearly committed to it, and I can do my part or just take advantage (if any) of the outcome. I believe I can help.
The family left for Zurich this morning on an all-day set of flights that travel six thousand mile. By the time they land, I should be landed as well, but only a few hundred miles away in Oroville… same state, somewhat different part of the world. Has a really big dam I hear.
The car has a full tank and is loaded with a few supplies I might need, but I believe ‘the caves ’ (of course he would name them that) have a large quantity of supplies in them, so I really only have to make sure I can get to the Bay Area and maybe camp out for a day or two if there are delays. After confirming the house’ s heat, water, and appliances are all turned off for a long slumber, I slide into the Mini Cooper and head for the pacific coast highway. This traveler is soon to join up with many others.
