sometimes closed when Tioga Pass is impassible. There are a few other places to cross as well, but I go all the way up to ‘Susanville’ (no relation as far as I know, although the coincidence is startling) and then across Lassen National Forest to Redding. It only takes half a day and I leave very early, so I can meet up with Susan for late lunch before the evening shift. We share a butter chicken pizza: an interesting twisting of both Indian food and Pizza that I had never had before, which elicited memories of both.

“You aren’t in Trinity! Congratulations!”

SANTA BARBARA » CARL

I meet Carl at Voyager in Santa Maria which is along the coastline north of Santa Barbara. Carl lives in Santa Barbara with his wife and two children, but has to commute more than two hours every other day to Santa Maria, driving by the Solvang ostriches, which study his pickup truck as he passes. Why Voyager couldn’t open a clinic in Santa Barbara is beyond his comprehension, but Carl tends to just go with the flow of the universe. He apparently was like this as a teenager, so it had nothing to do with his conversion. [[TODO]]
