sometimes closed when Tioga Pass is impassible. There are a few other places to cross as well, but I go all the way up to ‘Susanville’ (no relation as far as I know, although the coincidence is startling) and then across Lassen National Forest to Redding. It only takes half a day and I leave very early, so I can meet up with Susan for late lunch before the evening shift. We share a butter chicken pizza: an interesting twisting of both Indian food and Pizza that I had never had before, which elicited memories of both.

“Very funny… This county is literally one foot away from Trinity, and we have just as many trees. The only difference is there are a lot more people in the Redding area. Which includes everyone in eastern Trinity. Those on the western side of Trinity might go to Eureka: if I was stationed there, I would at least get a nice view of the ocean. So, no congratulations warranted or appreciated.”

One of the goals of the exodus — is to take some significant percentage of patients along with the vampires leaving California. We do not need to bring all the patients (ten per vampire) but bringing two or three would be great. This is both to protect the patients from the hemodialysis reduction ramifications and to make it clear we are doing our best to avoid harm to others. If this ever hits the press, our counter might be "We are providing dialysis for free to thousands of patients, what are the clinics charging?"
