Waking up early becomes the greatest challenge of your day, so you continue to hit snooze and watch your gym progress slowly fade away. But not this year! Whether it’s signing up for a high-reward Fernwood Fitness Challenge (we’re sure winning $5,000 is motivation enough to get to the gym?), competing with a friend, or completing a marathon, having a goal can give shape and structure to an exercise routine.

Whatever your motivation and fitness level, there are many challenges that you can face.

Try Something New

Our muscles and ligaments are tighter in the cooler months, making you more susceptible to injury if you don’t warm up properly before exercise.

Studio Pilates is a high-intensity low impact workout, with all classes designed by physiotherapists and each exercise performed in a specific order called ‘scientific sequencing’. This ensures you don’t overload any muscle group and reduces your chance of injury.

SEEK WARMTH AND FUN!

Choosing a warm, uplifting space to exercise is key for keeping your winter fitness on track.

Indoor cycling classes at Cycle Bar are all the rage and offer a great winter workout alternative with serious fitness benefits.

The cycling is done to music on a stationary bike with a weighted flywheel and an instructor up front. What’s even better? The classes are high-intensity, a lot of fun, and timeefficient, and will give you a great cardiovascular workout in a warm and dry environment.

OTHER FITNESS TIPS TO KEEP YOU MOTIVATED:

Lay out your workout clothes the night before; if the first thing you see is your workout clothes laid out and ready to go, you’ll have no excuses.

Choose workouts you enjoy and take the chore out of training by choosing fun and uplifting classes or routines.

Exercise during your lunch break, it’s usually the warmest time of the day, so this seems like a no-brainer!

Optimise the morning alarm, and choose a fun song to get you out of bed and get your heart beating faster. The goal here is to stop hitting snooze.

Seek out an exercise partner or group; when exercising alone, there is only one person you have to convince to skip a session. But by exercising with a partner or group, there’s some social pressure and extra motivation.
