Advanced Learner Loan More and more people are heading back to learning especially now they can access funding support through Advanced Learner Loans for courses from Level 3 to 6 like Access to Higher Education courses and Diplomas. The loans are available to students aged 19 and over, cover tuition fees and are paid back once the course is completed and you’re earning more than £26,568 a year, so there is no upfront cost. Plus, if your loan is for an Access course and you then go on to complete a full degree, your loan for the Access course will be written off.

Help with childcare If you’re under 20 and have a child you may be eligible for help with Ofsted-registered childcare and some travel expenses through the Care to Learn scheme. Further details can be found at direct.gov.uk/caretolearn or from the National Careers Service.

If you’re 20 or over and have a household income of less than £32,960 childcare support may be available from the college.

Additional funding If your household income is under £32,960, the college may be able to help with the costs of travel, books, equipment or any other cost which may make it difficult for you to attend college.

Access to Higher Education Missed out on taking your education to degree level? These one year courses prepare you to study at degree level if you do not currently have the qualifications to apply. They are specifically designed to give you the foundation skills and knowledge to go on and study a university degree.

Humanities Nursing & Healthcare Science Social Sciences Social Work

The diploma provides an intensive programme covering study skills and knowledge required for chosen career paths, and delivers a qualification recognised by universities. Successful students have gone on to study social work, dental hygiene, primary school teaching, paramedical science, midwifery and mental health nursing. The course can also open doors to areas of study such as veterinary medicine, history, criminology and law.

We provide a supportive ‘family friendly’ environment with great ICT facilities. Lectures are delivered in small groups and you will have a personal tutor.

New for September 2020: Level 2 Certificate in Health, Social Care & Social Work (Pre-Access Programme) Designed to be taken alongside either GCSE Maths and/or GCSE English, this Level 2 programme explores a wide range of topics covering Health, Social Care and Social Work. It will prepare students for future Level 3 study on their specific Access to HE pathway whilst also focusing on the development of important digital skills helping future employment and/or university study. It is suitable for those either considering a career in this sector or those who don’t meet the entry requirements for direct enrolment on to the Access course.

Sparsholt •

Land-based studies

This course is specifically designed to give you the foundation skills and knowledge for studying a land-based degree, with 79% of students progressing to degree studies (2018). It includes elements of chemistry, plant and animal biology and ecology, together with providing the knowledge and support needed to be able to carry out and present a small-scale research project.

You will study a range of core subjects and follow some specialist units in either animal studies, equine studies, ecology and conservation or fishery studies.

Teaching is delivered through a supportive mix of taught sessions, seminars, tutorials and practical lessons, which will help you build your knowledge and understanding of your chosen specialism, while gaining the ability to research and present your ideas as reports and presentations.

This course gives you UCAS tariff points for entry to University. Most students will progress to a relevant degree at Sparsholt and you will be supported by your tutors.
