Welcome Congratulations on receiving an offer to study at Loughborough University. We understand that the application process can seem daunting at times, so we want to make the process as simple as possible. This booklet contains all the information you need about the University, tuition fees, financial support and accommodation, so that you know exactly what to do and when.


Why Loughborough? Our graduates benefit from academic excellence, strong industry links and year-long placement options on every course, giving them a truly competitive edge for future employability. Our 440 acre (that’s equivalent to over 7000 tennis courts) single-site campus offers great facilities for every aspect of student life. Accommodation – live, study, enjoy We have a total of 15 undergraduate halls of residence, providing a mix of catered and self-catered accommodation for you to call home. If you make Loughborough your firm choice we will contact you in May with more information about what we have to offer and how to apply for your University accommodation. Home from home

Our halls of residence are safe, wellmanaged and comfortable, so you will be perfectly placed to begin your University experience. In addition to support from the warden team, our hall managers and maintenance staff are always there to help. Each hall has a student committee who will organise a range of activities to enhance your Loughborough experience – they’ll also be around when you very first arrive on campus to help you move in. Campus accommodation is about convenience, community and not having to get a bus to and from lectures! There are dining halls, restaurants, cafés, bars, shops, banks, the Students’ Union, launderettes, bike storage and more all on your doorstep. You will make lifelong friends and build your own Loughborough family, getting involved in everything from organised socials to charity fundraising or even our inter-hall sporting competition.

Our guarantee

If you make Loughborough your firm choice through UCAS and register for accommodation by the end of July, we will guarantee you a room in University accommodation for the first year of study. You will be able to apply for accommodation once your place has been confirmed (usually after examination results have been published).

Our promise

If you come to Loughborough as an insurance student your accommodation is not guaranteed. However, we promise to help you secure accommodation either on campus or by referral to an off campus provider.

Fees and financial support What are the tuition fees?

The full-time UK/EU undergraduate tuition fee for 2018/19 is £9,250. You should plan for inflationary increases in future years.

Living costs

It can be tricky to calculate day-to-day living costs as they vary for everybody. To help, we have put together the below example so you have an idea what to expect. Remember that all of Loughborough’s halls of residence are either on or very close to campus, so everything is within close walking distance. As well as creating a vibrant sense of community this greatly reduces travel costs, saving you money across the year.

Loughborough Scholarship Programme

Loughborough has a generous financial support package available to students starting a fulltime undergraduate course in September 2018. The Loughborough Scholarship Programme is worth up to £20,000 over three years; you will receive a bursary and tuition fee waiver depending on your annual household income as set out below.

You will be automatically considered for the Scholarship providing you and your parents agree to share household income with the University when you apply for financial support through the relevant student finance award agency (ie Student Finance England, the Student Awards Agency for Scotland, or Student Finance Northern Ireland). The Loughborough Scholarship Programme is available to UK students ordinarily resident in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. EU students will be eligible for tuition fee waivers only. Students from Wales, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man are not eligible for the Scholarship.

FEES AND FINANCE: KEY POINTS • Tuition fees do not have to be paid upfront • Student loans do not need repaying until you are earning a minimum of £25,000 per annum • After 30 years, the Government will write-off any outstanding loan

Mature students

The University offers additional financial support to mature students (those over 21 upon entry) worth up to £7,500 over three years. Further details can be found at www.lboro.ac.uk/mature

Care leavers

We recognise that care leavers often require a greater level of financial assistance. The University offers a generous additional package to these students worth up to £4,500 per year on top of the means-tested Loughborough Scholarship Programme package (highlighted overleaf). Other scholarships

In addition to the Loughborough Scholarship Programme, we offer a number of other scholarships to undergraduate students: • Loughborough University Development Trust Scholarships worth £9,000 over three years • Sports scholarships for talented student athletes • Music scholarships and music tuition support for exceptional musicians

Part-time work

Many students supplement their income with part-time work during their studies. The Careers Network run a job shop advertising part-time temporary work and other opportunities both on and off campus.

Visit days

Offer holders will be invited to attend a Visit Day organised by the relevant school/department. These provide an excellent opportunity to find out more about your course and to get a feel for life as a student at Loughborough University. We strongly recommend attending the Visit Day, but if you are unable to do so we conduct regular campus tours during term time. Student ChatLive

We will hold a series of online chat rooms where you can talk to some of our staff and current students about what it’s like to live and study at Loughborough University. You will be notified of these dates by email and online.

Data protection

If you are firmly accepted by the University, your contact details will be forwarded to Loughborough University Students’ Union prior to the start of the academic year for them to distribute information on services and events for new students. If you do not wish for your contact details to be passed to Loughborough University Students’ Union, please inform us in writing.
