WELCOME FROM RHYS EDWARDS
RHYS EDWARDS DIRECTOR OF RUGBY
Welcome all to Loughborough University, where today we host Hull in another Round of National 2 North. We welcome all players and officials from the club, in what we hope will be another great game of National League Rugby.
The last few games have been challenging and the results certainly haven’t showed the true competitiveness of the games, with us unfortunately coming on the wrong side of a few close games. Our win at home against Luctonians in Round 18 showed what we are capable of. Today we entertain Hull who have been on a great run, winning the last 10 games consecutively, last losing to Rotherham. They were very dominant in the away fixture at set piece, and it will certainly be something that we will need to get parity to enable us to control the game. The previous game however ended up within one score, and today’s game tees itself up as a great challenge to test ourselves against an experienced national league squad. The squad come back this week after a week off where they will be refreshed from watching some exciting 6 nations matches with some underdog wins for Scotland and Ireland (Wales always favourites…) which again playes nicely into todays challenge. We must say Happy Birthday to club stalwart and Loughborough Students National League Head Coach, Jim Henry who celebrated his 40th last week. Jim celebrated in style in Scotland, playing on the Old Course at St Andrews, but im sure he will celebrate again today if wanted to buy him a beer. The BUCS Super Rugby squad have had a tough two weeks results wise, losing to Durham and drawing with Cardiff. But attention now turns to preparing for our home fixture against Bath on Wednesday 16th February. It would be great tl get your support here before we head into the knockouts.
All the best to everyone today Rhys Director of Rugby
