A BRIEF HISTORY

RHYS EDWARDS DIRECTOR OF RUGBY

Welcome all to Loughborough University, where today we host League leaders Sedgley Park in another Round of National 2 North.

Sedgley Park have been a dominant side this year with their physical and positive brand of rugby, and I’m sure it will be another spectacle here today. The National League is proving to be a tough league as we always expect, and great opportunity for our young players to gain invaluable experience during their rugby education. We were unfortunate not to gain the win last week against Wharfdale, with conceding a late score to lose 15-14. However, the performance was a stark contrast to the week before against Rotherham, a game where we were ‘not at the races’ uncharacteristically, and one we would normally thrive in. The weather was a contributor but well done to Rotherham who showed us the decisive way to win in this league. The BUCS Super Rugby Squad fell to Bath this week with us off the pace at the breakdown. After impressive wins the previous few weeks against Cardiff Met and Hartpury, we had a reality check in the importance of staying focused and being accurate. Well done Bath, but all eyes now turn to the final fixture of 2021 against Northumbria at Kingston Park on Friday. Finally, may I please thank Amy Walmsley, who leaves us this weekend to go and work with the RFU. Amy has been an integral piece of the programme over the last 5 years leading our rugby operations and off field delivery. Amy will be sorely missed and will leave a big gap. If you see her around campus today, please make sure you say goodbye. Good Luck Amy. Hopefully the weather stays away, and we have fresh day to play positive rugby.

All the best to everyone today
