In support of local schools and the community, Gershow Recycling donated the use of a junk car to the Sayville High School SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) chapter. The car serves as a reminder to students to drive safely. The junk car was on display in front of the school to show students the consequences of driving while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, as well as the dangers of driving while distracted by texting or talking on cell phones. The Sayville SADD chapter thanked Gershow for its assistance and its use of the vehicle. The New York Marine Rescue Center, a notfor-profit 501c3 organization, is hosting the 2021 Paddle Battle LI Team Challenge on Saturday, July 31st, along the Peconic River in Riverhead, NY. NYU Langone Health (NYU Langone) and Long Island Community Hospital (LI Community Hospital) today announced their execution of an affiliation agreement that will bring the two organizations together to expand, enhance, and clinically integrate their healthcare networks in Suffolk County. The parties are now seeking regulatory approval, with the goal of closing on the affiliation at the end of 2021. On Tuesday, June 1, 2021, Gregory S. Lisi, a Partner and Chair of Forchelli Deegan Terrana LLP’s Employment & Labor practice group, was installed as the 119th President of the Nassau County Bar Association (“NCBA”). Kristie Golden, Ph.D., of Smithtown, was elected board president of the Association for Mental Health and Wellness (MHAW), in Ronkonkoma. On May 29, the Village of Islandia celebrated the grand reopening of The Islandia Senior Center. Visitors were treated to refreshments and had the opportunity to speak to Allan M. Dorman, the village mayor, and Denise Schrage, Village Parks and Recreation Commissioner, and learn about upcoming events at the facility. In March 2020, the Senior Center was closed down due to the pandemic. It reopened in July 2020, but only operated during limited hours. The Islandia Senior Center will now be fully open Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. For more information, Register now for the America’s VetDogs Freedom Race Series Participants can choose to run in a 5K timed race, walk the 5K or take a 2-mile family-friendly walk with or without their pup.
