Welcome to the start of our 59th season! We are so excited as we kick off this season with new programming, new equipment, new spaces and new people! We are pleased to welcome Chloe Keller as the guest director for School of Rock. This is her first time directing with us and we hope to see more of her work in the future. We also welcomed two new staff members this summer: Brendan Corbett as our Master Carpenter and Resident Technician and Alexandra Brue as our new Resident Stage Manager/Properties Master. With three performance spaces, touring shows, educational outreach shows, and class performances, we have so much going on we needed more staff to operate efficently. Market House Theatre has finally finished construction on the Next Stage Project after beginning the project 12 years ago. In August, we opened our new Studio 200 Theatre and Events space. This new venue will seat between 150-190 people and allow us to not only do more educational performances and new plays, but allow us to extend performance runs if there is high demand. In addition, our new Studio Series allows us to produce plays that have more contemporary subject matter and language outside of our Signature Series thus allowing ticket holders to select shows that are a better fit for them. School of Rock also showcases a large new piece of equipment. Our new LED wall has replaced the rear screen projector that we’ve used for the past 12 years, which was showing significant signs of wear. The use of a rear screen projector also posed many limitations, such as the height and amount of scenery we could store backstage. The cost to replace the projector was roughly $30,000 and was made possible through a grant from the Kentucky Colonels. With this new piece of technology, we are able to store more scenery and use more light on stage without detrement to the quality of the background. So many people have helped MHT reach the point of opening our 59th season. The production team of School of Rock, the many donors who provided funding for the Next Stage Project, along with donors who provide us with annual operating funding, sponsors, program advertisers, the Kentucky Colonels, the Kentucky Arts Council, and you, the ticket holders. Your support and presence allows us to develop and share the local talent in our community. I talk with adults almost every day who share how the Market House Theatre production they enjoyed or class they participated in as a child (sometimes 30 years ago) is still one of their fondest memories. Taking the risk of standing up in front of your family and community and being applauded for your accomplishment is a life changing experience. Thank you for making that experience happen. Now sit back and rock on with cast of School of Rock!

A NOTE FROM Michael Cochran EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The Kentucky Arts Council, the state arts agency, provides operating support to Market House Theatre with state tax dollars and federal funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Originally written as a screenplay for Jack Black by his friend Mike White, School of Rock is inherently relatable as an examination of the importance of music in the collective human experience. It is a testament to the struggles of friendship, the disappointments of adulthood, the potential of youth, and the empowering properties of arts in education. Appearing simple on the surface, School of Rock has a bit of everything from an unexpected hero, to an unlikely romantic pairing, to the power of music to heal relationships. Who among us has not come of age or fallen in love to our own unique soundtrack? Some of you might remember a time when a mixed tape or CD (Google it, kids) was the ultimate expression of attraction and indi vidual understanding. In attics and glove compartments all over America are relics of another time; a coveted favorite “Ultimate Mix” of some variety, archiving the soundtrack of one’s personal evolution. Since the dawn of human kind we have been making sounds to bring each other comfort and joy. I like what is real and true. I am also an optimist who always hopes the unlikeliest of heroes succeeds, the lonely get kissed, and the children get heard and respected for who they are. This play does not disappoint. Neither does this cast. The musicians you see and hear on stage are actually playing their instruments. These talented young people are music makers in real life. This whole cast is comprised of deeply talented people who are living examples of the importance of music and theatre in one’s life. It has been my devout pleasure to work with them. Thank you one and all for being here. Rock on, Paducah!
