begins Building a production takes time, and a lot of it. From acquiring the licensing, creating a staging concept, designing and building the set, casting the show, rehearsing, to performing on opening night, it can take over a year. Along with time, it takes people, our staff and remarkable volunteers, to make those tasks and the 90 minutes of theatrical magic happen. Market House Theatre produces over 20 shows annually, many of which are built simultaneously. “With all of Market House’s educational programs, plus our Signature and Studio offerings, there are often up to 6 shows being costumed at one time,” expressed Charlotte Campbell, Market House Theatre’s costume director. “Imagine how many individual articles of clothing go into a show with 20 people in it. Now multiply that number by 6. That’s a lot of clothes!”

work. Without volunteers, we might not have the time or skills to do those things. Having volunteers can make our productions that much better,” exclaimed Veit. Volunteers are truely what keep Market House Theatre up and running. You don’t need any prior experience or knowledge to volunteer. Campbell and Veit are both professionals in their respective fields with remarkable skill and talent. “The only requirement for volunteers is having a willingness to learn. Besides that, we can teach you what you need to be able to do. It helps to have prior experience, but we can teach it,” stated Viet.

"Having volunteers to help with the load is always “While experience in sewing (even expeappreciated." rience as simple as sewing on buttons or -Charlotte Campbell

Campbell’s department isn’t the only one working on these numerous productions. Jerome Veit, technical director, oversees the MHT scene shop and theatre. “The scene shop provides all the scenic elements, props, and helps with lighting and sound for all productions, classes, and camps,” stated Veit while working on a platform for Pippi Longstocking. While these individuals work tirelessly to produce the shows we see, they couldn’t do it without the support of volunteers. “Volunteers can be quite crucial. They can help make a really high quality set, where we do a lot of detail

The costume shop with Charlotte and scene shop with Jerome are just two of the many places you can volunteer. We always need volunteer ushers, actors, stage crew, operators, historians, marketers, and even administrative help. Along the way, you can make new friends and connection, develop new skills and talents, and play a part in something that you helped make successful. “Having volunteers to help with the load is always appreciated,” expressed Campbell, and we couldn’t agree more.

Market House Theatre is grateful for the support of our © 2021 Allstate Insurance Co. business community, especially our sponsors! Allstate Insurance – Scott Jordan Agency has been with us since our 51st season. Scott’s relationship with Market House Theatre began when Scott bought his first set of season tickets. It didn’t take long for Scott, a father of three, to realize the value of the education program at Market House Theatre, which ultimately led to his Youth Education sponsorship through his business. Scott, an eleven-year member and past-president of the Paducah Downtown Kiwanis Club, is passionate about giving all children opportunities to learn and grow. He says when a student takes part in a play, it helps them interact with others and boosts their brain power by memorizing all those lines - but that’s just the start. “I feel that getting over the fear of public speaking is a huge part of becoming a successful adult. Many of our children are shy and look at the floor when they are spoken to. Breaking them out of their shell to be able to look someone in the eyes when they speak is not an easy task. But most of all, having fun doing something outside of the norm can have more of an impact than anything.” – Scott Jordan
