Biographies of Speakers/Panelists

Jan-Michele Lemon Kearney – Vice Mayor of Cincinnati

Jan-Michele Lemon Kearney was born in Cincinnati and is a proud graduate of Cincinnati Public Schools: Rockdale Elementary School and Walnut Hills High School. She graduated cum laude from Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. She earned a master’s degree in counseling and Consulting Psychology from Harvard University Graduate School of Education and a law degree from Harvard Law School, where she was elected first class marshal of her law school class and gave the commencement speech at graduation. She is an entrepreneur who owns a multi-media publishing company, Sesh Communications, that includes ownership of the award-winning Cincinnati Herald newspaper. Over the years, she has served the city through involvement in the NAACP, YWCA, Walnut Hills High School Alumni Foundation, Greater Cincinnati Association of Black Journalists, Women’s City Club, Center for Independent Living Options, and other community organizations. She is married to former Ohio State Senator Eric H. Kearney, and they are blessed with two children, Celeste, and Asher. Jan-Michele is honored to serve the residents of the city she loves as a councilmember.

Brandon Canady – LOSANT

Brandon is co-founder and Chief Product Officer at the IoT platform company, Losant. Prior to that, Brandon was co-founder and Chief Technology Officer at Modulus, which was acquired in 2014. Brandon has over 15 years of software engineering experience in chemical detection, telecommunications, and cloud services.

Jasmine Clark – Jazz Photography

Jasmine is the Operations Director of BYOC Camps and Clubs and is a member of the Technology Tailor Made team. She created the curriculum for the Circuitry and Robotics programs, teaches those classes, Python coding, and how to build a computer. She has been with BYOC since the beginning in 2014. Jasmine has been doing photography and videography for five years and started Jazz Photography in 2020. She specializes in wedding and portrait photography and videography. She utilizes natural techniques to produce candid and timeless images of life’s milestones. She has had the pleasure of documenting couples’ celebrations and strives to go above and beyond for each cherished client. Jasmine’s mission is to capture all things beautiful.

Ashley Ferguson – Writer

Ohio native Ashley Aya Ferguson is a writer most inspired by real life. Through poetry, children’s literature and creative nonfiction, she invites readers to live inside of a feeling, creating access that can’t be ignored. Ashley is the author of three five-star rated children’s books: Girl, You Are Magic!; Boy, You Are Brilliant and the recently released, I Am Not Afraid of Spiders. She currently resides in Cincinnati with her daughter, Nia.

Michael Glenn, Jr a Enterprise Solutions Specialist in the Large Format Imaging Systems & Enterprise Software Solutions of the Hewlett Packard Graphics Solutions Business Division

He is skilled in Sales, Management, Sales Presentations, Business Development, and Recruiting. He has worked for several printing companies: Millennium Business Systems, Xerox, and Konica Minolta selling high volume, managed print services, and document solutions hardware and software to mid to large business enterprises, higher education, and healthcare.

Teamika Jeffrey- My Dream Staffing

Teamika has successfully placed candidates at Bloomberg, Forbes, Guardian Life Ins., M illennium Management, FBE, Auriemma Consulting, First Republic Bank, Citi Bank, Tinicum, Fitch Ratings, Battalion, Gucci, Heidrick and Struggles, News Corp, Davis & Gilbert and more. A Baruch College alumnus and an entrepreneur, Teamika works diligently on these positions, from acquiring them to building a strategy to fill them. Teamika started her own recruitment firm My Dream Staffing Agency in hopes to combat HR’s unconscious biases toward diverse candidates. She is also the creator of CAREER BREAKTHROUGH, a seminar held at Morgan Stanley that allows individuals to learn from the insiders and experts on how to target your best opportunities, Converting your resumes into interviews, Discovering what's inside the mind of HR and more. Teamika is on a mission to improve the way recruiting is looked upon. By being a diverse staffing supplier, companies benefit from her being an expert in the industry.

Andrew Harrison, Ph.D – University of Cincinnati, Carl H. Lindner College of Business

Andrew Harrison is an Associate Professor and the Interim Department Head of the Operations, Business Analytics, and Information Systems Department in the Carl H. Lindner College of Business at the University of Cincinnati. He received his Ph.D. in MIS from Iowa State University. His research interests include fraud detection and deterrence, computermediated communication, knowledge management, and data integration. His research has been published in MIS Quarterly, the Journal of the Association for Information Systems, the Journal of Business Ethics, and the Journal of Information Systems. He has received awards for both his research and excellence in teaching.

Laurie Kiley - General Electric

Graduated with an engineering degree from the University of Central Florida but followed an opportunity to start her 27 year career in IT. She started off as a programmer and over time evolved into her current role at GE as Principal Technical Program Manager. Laurie has two kids attending Ohio State University. She and her husband enjoy hiking every day to enjoy nature and unwind.

Richard Maiti - Kentucky State University

Richard Maiti is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Kentucky State University, College of Agriculture, Communities, & Sciences, School of Science (ACS), Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (SoSTEM). Dr. Maiti has a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Kentucky, a Master’s in Applied Computer Science from Eastern Kentucky University, a Master's in Business Administration from Morehead State University, and a Ph.D. in Information Systems from Nova Southeastern University – Florida.

Dr. Maiti has over 10 years of academic and industrial experience working with Fortune 500 companies: IBM, Lexmark, and Dell. Proficient in numerous programming languages and software applications, Dr Maiti has experience leading teams of developers, designing applications, and managing projects; has worked in healthcare analytics. Research includes Non-Functional Requirements (NFRs) and diversity in cybersecurity. Recipient of Server Resource Management (SRM) Development Excellency award, IBM BRAVO Award - SRM/A Agent development, IBM 10-year service recognition award, Rockwell Collins recognition for development on Bombardier Global Express jet.

Matt Mease – GE Cloud Architect

Been working in tech for 30 years. Hobbies, I enjoy cooking particularly Gilling outdoors. I’m a sports enthusiast Football, Baseball and Basketball more recently been watching WorldCup Soccer. Most of all enjoy spending time with Family and Friends.

– Former BYOC Student and Musician

My Name is Mario Monds, I attended Camp BYOC during the year of 2017 learn a lot about the enter workings of the computers we’ve all come to know and love and also other tech subjects such as coding and digital design to name a few, since my time at BYOC I’ve focus primarily on music but occupationally I work for an insurance company and the knowledge I gained from the camp gave me an extra edge and as of recently I’m looking to further my education in the coding field.

Dan Morgan – Senior Infrastructure Architect at GE

Dan is a Penn State Graduate who also won a national championship playing for the Nittany Lions. He is married and has 2 daughters that are collegiate volleyball players. He enjoys sports and spending quality time with the people he loves.

I am focused in the Digital Workplace Space. I live in Cincinnati. I graduated from University of Cincinnati with a Master's in Information Systems. I have a puppy named Ravioli.

Reggie Roberts – First Financial Bank

Reggie Roberts is a native Cincinnatian who graduated from Western Hills High School. Reggie joined the U.S. Army in 1983. During his six years in the U.S. Army, he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant and ended his military career as a Computer Operations Supervisor; he cultivated his passion for technology by learning computer programming at Sinclair Community College and Cincinnati State. As a computer programmer, he worked for the City of Cincinnati’s Regional Computer Center, left RCC, and worked as an independent computer consultant for 20+years. Today, he is the Enterprise Applications and Development Director for First Financial Bank and leads a software and data integration, development team.

Reggie Roberts is also a community activist in East Westwood, a neighborhood of Cincinnati. For over 25 years, Reggie has worked with this Community’s youth and the surrounding Community. In the early 1990s, Reggie co-founded Praise God Baller Basketball, where he used basketball to introduce young people to Jesus Christ. Reggie participated in the award-winning documentary “The Pivot Point,” which tells how Cincinnati police, residents, and community leaders unite to combat violence in the Community.

In his free time, Reggie likes coaching basketball; watching movies; and spending time with his wife, Christine, and sons, Reggie J and Sebastian.

Dr. Chi Shen - Kentucky State University

Dr. Chi Shen is a Professor of Computer Science and Chairperson in School of STEM at the Kentucky State University where she has been a faculty member since 2004. She has been serving in chair position in Division of Computer Science and School of Mathematics and Computer Science since 2013. Dr. Shen completed her Ph.D. in Computer Science at University of Kentucky and her undergraduate studies in Mathematics at Chongqin University, China. Her research interests lie in the area of parallel computing, scientific computing, data mining and data science. She has enriched teaching experiences in computer science and mathematics and has taught more than 22 courses at undergraduate and graduate levels. She also has served as PI and Co-PI in multiple grants in STEM education and research.

Nathan Spencer – Fifth/Third Bank – Legal Counsel

Nathan Spencer has practiced law for nearly a decade, and has been in his current role as Senior Counsel at Fifth Third Bank for over a year. He advises the Bank’s internal information security and information technology teams on a wide range of privacy and security issues,

Andrew Springer – Oracle America, Inc.

Sales Director, Oracle Advanced Customer Services, Northeast Region, State, and Local Governments and Education

A business professional guided by generating economic value for shareholders and identifying positive return on investment, revenue growth, and effective business models that reinforce investments in people and technology to achieve business objectives. Andrew has a BA in Computer Science and an MBA in Finance from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. Andrew’s career includes leadership roles at US Bank, Cincinnati, NCR Corporation, GE Capital, and Oracle America, Inc.

Build Engineer on the Architecture team Graduated from Mount St Joseph University in Cincinnati Ohio and has been in IT working 5/3 bank, HSN and now GE on WAN technologies and Architecture. Eddie enjoys sports mainly Football and Basketball and collecting hard to find sneakers.

Dennis Sullivan – FIS Global

I started on down the information systems path about 10 years ago. I completed an associate degree at Gateway over here in Northern Kentucky. During my first semester of the program, I started working as a help desk representative for a local IT company. From there I learned user provisioning and then branched out into project management. All these various roles helped prepare me for an engineering role at what was then called Vantiv. I decided to return to school around 6 years ago and will graduate this coming spring with a Bachelor’s in Information Systems. I am currently working as a Systems Manager w/ 8 direct employees.

I enjoy spending time with my 3 boys, woodworking, home renovations, and first love is playing/performing music in various settings. I professionally perform on drums, trumpet, and bass guitar.

"Hi I'm John Thomas! I was born and raised in Cincinnati, OH, graduated from the University of Cincinnati (Class of 21') and is currently based out of Cincinnati. He has a passion for learning and experiencing new cultures around the world. He has had 8 internships within the IT industry across the country and in multiple industries His current goal is to specialize in Agile Delivery and Product Management and to gain understanding of how to create and innovate within the interactive software space. He has a largely positive, encouraging, and optimistic energy that he brings with his presence, actions, and leadership. Beyond my work, I am a massive gamer and am extremely passionate about the industry and its innovations. I play on PC, PlayStation, and Nintendo! I also love to travel and connect with people. I believe everyone has a story and I love to tell and listen to all stories!

We are a nonprofit organization with a passion for helping families through educational conventions that encourage them to live their best life. Each year we empower children in reading and financial literacy and women at our Sister Soiree Experience.

Robin Walker – CEO of Technology Tailor Made and Founder of BYOC Camps and Clubs

Robin has a B.S. degree in Math with a minor in Economics from Norfolk State University. She studied business at the graduate level at the University of Cincinnati and Computer Science at Memphis State University. Today Robin is reaching her entrepreneurial dream of contributing to the world of Information Technology (IT). Robin spent 24 years at Procter & Gamble in Information Technology where she had many great experiences in business implementing technology business solutions across the globe. She founded Technology, Tailor Made as the platform to offer a wide range of IT products and services to consumers and businesses. Tech Tailor Made offers computer and IT services, web development and social media marketing solutions. Tech Tailor Made has 2 locations – the tri-county area of Cincinnati, OH and the east side of Indianapolis, IN.

In 2014 BYOC (Build Your Own Computer) Camps and Clubs was created. Feeling compelled to give back to youth as long ago as 2007, BYOC started as a summer camp that gave youth between the ages of 12 and 14 early experiences with computer technology, inspiring them to pursue technology careers. The camp started with a single focus of teaching youth to build a computer and the science related to that. Allowing the students to keep that computer gave them pride in their accomplishment and a continual reminder that they can do “all things”. Inspiring, encouraging and creating confidence were and continue to be clear goals.

Robin Walker has 2 grown children, Joel Clark, III and Jasmine Clark, who is a part of BYOC and Tech Tailor Made today. She has many other interests including music and dance.

LaMarqué D. Ward Sr. – Dream Builders University

The Builder: LaMarqué D. Ward Sr. is an internationally acclaimed educator, speaker, author, trainer and Dream Building coach. He is a captivating leader whose charismatic speeches influence students and professionals alike. Through profound insight, LaMarqué engages his audience by reaching common ground with others.

His Passion: His passion for unleashing potential in others is infectious – and he has created a guide to prove he stands behind this passion. His first book “Competing as a Lifestyle You vs. You, A Student’s Guide to Greatness” has been successfully received. Even greater success resulted from his sophomore manuscript “Dream Building for Parents” and his anti-bullying book series “Malik’s Big Dream” and “Malik The Difference Maker.”

An Expert: He is an expert in tuning into the needs of others by breaking down barriers in cultures that ordinarily hinder results. He has led successful at-risk youth efforts in Cincinnati and around the country by providing expert level leadership development and coaching for staff.

LaMarqué is vice president of the Collective Empowerment Group Cincinnati, LSDMC Board Chair at Ethel M. Taylor Academy, and he serves on the Executive Board of Rising Leaders. LaMarque’ is the Pastor at Cincinnati Urban Ministry Outreach (CUMO), President of Dream Builders University and the COO of Charthouse Learning. He holds an Associate of Arts degree from South Plains College, a Bachelor of Arts degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University, a Bachelor of Science degree in Christian Ministries from Faith Theological Seminary, a Master of Education from the University of Phoenix, a John Maxwell Team Certified coach, trainer, and speaker and a Paradigm 360 Certified Coach.

Kathy D. Wright

Kathy D. Wright Is the former Principal and Chief learning Officer at Hughes STEM High school In Cincinnati Ohio, Kathy has focused much of her career as a science educator, administrator and now as an education and leadership consultant on developing innovative practices that lead to extraordinary outcomes. Kathy has established and facilitated professional learning opportunities for a wide range of organizations in both the public and private arenas. Her knowledge of effective and innovative leadership, culture, and equitable systems have enabled her to lead organizational change efforts for many schools as a former Principal-In-Residence for the Battelle Memorial Institute.

Kathy is on the Board of Directors of the INTERalliance, an organization dedicated to leading the regions efforts to feed the technology pipeline by introducing high school students to IT skills and careers. She also sits on the Advisory Board of the Greater Cincinnati STEM Collaborative, an organization dedicated to ensuring that the most urgent and impactful STEM education opportunities are being addressed In Southwest Ohio and Northern Kentucky.
