Presents the Debutante Cotillion…
“You Can’t Break Our Soul!” Saturday, April 1, 2023
Holiday Inn Centre Park West Chester, Ohio
CAC PRESIDENT’S LETTER On behalf of the 230 members of the multi-award winning Cincinnati Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, it is with great pleasure that I extend heartfelt greetings to the families and friends of our 2023 Debutantes as well as the Greater Cincinnati Community and members of our illustrious sisterhood! After enduring nearly three years of a worldwide pandemic, our Community is testimonial proof of this year’s theme - “You Can’t Break Our Soul”. The Cotillion Committee, Debutantes, and their families rose to the challenge of embodying our theme. As we come together to celebrate the lives of seventeen radiant, resourceful, and resilient Debutantes, it is our sincere hope that this Cotillion season pushed them beyond their limits, increasing their confidence in their abilities to succeed and to dream bigger along their journey to womanhood. Since 1993, the Debutante Cotillion has been an integral program in exposing our youth to educational and cultural opportunities, while stressing the importance of community engagement and service. We value our youth and know that if their talents are cultivated, they will grow into outstanding leaders. To the Debutantes, thank you for exhibiting commitment and elegance as you persevered and navigated through changing times. We extend best wishes to you in your future endeavors! To the Parents, we truly believe it takes a village to raise a child. We are honored to be included in your villages and hope that this Cotillion season will be a cherished memory for each family. The Cotillion Committee, under the leadership of Laventa Atwater, has planned and executed this year's curriculum and culminating gala with excellence! Your enthusiastic commitment is recognized and appreciated. To the Mentors, thank you for your support through sharing your wisdom and guidance. Sorors, the Chapter owes all of you a debt of gratitude! And finally, to the Village, we thank you for your contributions that made Debutantes’ scholarship awards possible. Your investment in our Debutantes will result in dividends beyond what you can imagine! In Appreciation,
Ligaya P. West President, Cincinnati Alumnae Chapter Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated
DELTA SIGMA THETA SORORITY, INC. NATIONAL HISTORY Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated was founded on January 13, 1913, by 22 collegiate women at Howard University to promote academic excellence and provide assistance to those in need. The Founders of Delta Sigma Theta envisioned an organization committed to sisterhood, scholarship, service, and addressing the social issues of the time. Since its founding, Delta Sigma Theta has become one of the preeminent service-based sororities, with more than 300,000 initiated members and over 1,000 chartered chapters worldwide. As a sisterhood comprised primarily of Black, college-educated women, the Sorority seriously considers the issues impacting the Black community and boldly confronts the challenges of African Americans and, hence, all Americans. Over the years, a wide range of programs addressing education, health, international development, and the strengthening of African American families have evolved. The major programs of the Sorority are based upon the Five-Point Programmatic Thrust: economic development, educational development, international awareness and involvement, physical and mental health, and political awareness and involvement.

“YOU CAN’T BREAK OUR SOUL” CHAIRPERSON’S MESSAGE
The ladies of the Cincinnati Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. welcome you to the 2023 Cotillion! The theme for this year’s Cotillion is “You Can’t Break Our Soul”. We gather on this evening in celebration of 17 vibrant young ladies who are leaders in their community and are engaged in an exciting journey! The purpose of the Cotillion program is to take each of the Debutantes on a journey to better understand and enhance her personal, educational, cultural, spiritual and social self through an introduction to a rich African American heritage. With this goal and our desire to encourage bonding among the Debutantes as well as with members of our sorority, the Cotillion committee sought to provide each young lady with a well-rounded, fulfilling, and memorable experience. Weaving our theme into the program, each Debutante was inspired throughout the Cotillion season to experience new and exciting endeavors on her journey. The program was uniquely designed, consisting of wonderful events, such as the Crowns Luncheon, the Sister-to-Sister Retreat and a variety of workshops. Our mentoring program which paired each Debutante with a member of our chapter, provided each participant with an extended network to a dynamic group of women dedicated to personal and professional excellence with a commitment to improving communities throughout the world. Through their fundraising efforts, the young ladies set their goals high to qualify for the Miss Deb Scholarships. These higher education scholarships will be awarded this evening. To the parents, family and friends of the Debutantes, we thank you for the continued support you have provided these young ladies throughout the program. And, to our Debutantes, we celebrate and honor you this evening! What a joy it has been to get to know and work with each of you over the past few months. You have truly made us proud, and we wish you only the best as you move forward into your next phase of life. We thank you for your energy throughout the program and applaud you for exceeding your goals. Cherish this special day and savor the moment. LaVenta Atwater, Cotillion Committee Chair 2023
CINCINNATI ALUMNAE CHAPTER DEBUTANTE COTILLION OVERVIEW For 30 years, the Cincinnati Alumnae Chapter (CAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has been formally presenting young high school ladies to society and the Cincinnati community through its annual Debutante Cotillion Program. It’s a comprehensive program that runs for approximately five months. The Program’s mission is to enhance the personal, professional, and civic development of young girls in the Cincinnati Metro area through workshops, events and rehearsals while cultivating scholarship, achievement, self-confidence, grace, and good citizenship. CAC’s Debutante Cotillion Program is made up of four key components: Scholarship – The program stresses the importance of scholastic achievement and the value of higher educational excellence through scholarship awards. Service – Throughout the year, the young ladies are taught the importance of reinvesting in the community through individual and collective community service activities. Mentoring – As an integral component of the program, mentoring allows the Debutantes to network with a dynamic group of professional women committed to sisterhood and improving communities throughout the world. Professional Development – The workshops and rehearsals are designed to promote personal and professional development and to teach each young lady to become more refined and adept in social settings. Since 1993, CAC’s Debutante Cotillion Program has awarded nearly $500,000 in scholarships to qualifying participants. This year’s program will follow in this legacy, using the proceeds raised through ticket sales, advertising journal sales and other donations to continue funding scholarships that help assist with the financial obligation of furthering one’s education beyond high school. 2022-2023 COTILLION COMMITTEE Chairperson: LaVenta Atwater Committee Members: Dr. Anthereca Lane & Malinda McReynolds

Since my graduation, I have flourished in college as I serve as the Freshman class Secretary for Student Government and a member of the Freshman class innovation group responsible for planning all freshman class activities. I am happy to share I completed my first semester
with

Zoe Williams Although my experience as a Debutante was virtual, the time I did spend with the other Debs was terrific. Along with learning many skills, I made connections with my Deb sisters, Mentor, and the Cotillion Committee. Tonight, one of you will be crowned and hold the title of Miss Debutante 2023. With or without the crown, you are all queens and worked hard to be here. The bond you have created is unique and will be remembered as a special moment in your life. No matter what happens, continue to keep your head held high and your standards higher! Take these invaluable tools and lessons that you have learned into the next phase of your life to help you overcome any uphill battles you may face. I congratulate each of you for your dedication during this year’s Debutante Cotillion. For tonight, stay in the moment. You and your families worked hard to prepare for this amazing event. To the committee members, the hours spent preparing the Debs is incredible and will never go unnoticed. To the parents, family, and friends, thank you for your emotional and financial support of these ladies. Finally, Ladies, this is YOUR time. Know that I am rooting for you! Enjoy every minute because you deserve it. Congratulations! Sincerely, Zoe Williams Miss Debutante 2022
