EXPERIENCE Market & Johnson has been the go-to construction expert for communities and counties throughout western Wisconsin and eastern Minnesota for decades. Through coordination, communication, and overall project management, our firm will deliver a successful and seamless project that you and your community can take pride in for years to come.

AMERY CITY CENTER, AMERY, WI The $3.2M City Center remodel of existing bank into new city hall, library, and police station with an attached parking garage combines all city services under one roof.

WINONA COUNTY JAIL, WINONA, MN Winona County’s new jail is located north of the existing law enforcement center in downtown Winona. It is a Class III Jail facility with eighty beds; the new construction connects an existing underground tunnel and provides staff connection to the existing building. A renovation to the current law enforcement building provided access to public restrooms.

HUDSON FIRE DEPARTMENT, HUDSON, WI Market & Johnson was the general contractor on the new fire station for the City of Hudson. The new facility replaced their current downtown location with additional fire truck capacity, offices, conference room, and future dorms—additionally, the project incorporated a new training facility by adding a two-story hose tower. The construction consisted of precast wall panels, precast roof tees, and castin-place foundations. The City built the facility to handle Hudson’s current and future growth.

RICHARD H. ROWAN PUBLIC SAFETY TRAINING CTR., ST. PAUL, MN This new, 2-story, 50,000 sf facility houses offices, multiple scenario training areas, fitness, classrooms, and a state-of-the-art indoor shooting range. It is used to train new police cadets and the continued education of their current police force. Much of this building is core-filled CMU with brick veneer.

POLK COUNTY HIGHWAY FACILITY, BALSAM LAKE, WI Polk County’s new highway facility houses up to 40 vehicles, a repair shop, truck wash, and new offices. Immediately following the project, their current 1933 highway shop was razed and turned over to the Village of Balsam Lake for later development .

EAU CLAIRE COUNTY HIGHWAY FACILITY, EAU CLAIRE, WI Market & Johnson built this new highway maintenance facility for Eau Claire County. The maintenance and storage facility includes offices for the highway department office staff, complete vehicle maintenance, truck wash, and the County’s Meals on Wheels kitchen. The project also includes a salt shed, a fuel island, and an unheated storage facility.

LA CROSSE FIRE STATION #2, LA CROSSE, WI This new two-story, 20,000-square-foot station serves the city’s West Side near UW-La Crosse. The first floor is designed for efficiency, featuring turnout gear storage, apparatus support spaces, firefighter dorms, an exercise room, and a watch/ command office. The second level includes offices, a kitchen, dining and day rooms, a conference room, and a rooftop patio. Two fire poles provide quick access to the apparatus bays, ensuring rapid response.

LA CROSSE FIRE STATION #4, LA CROSSE, WI The 20,743-square-foot station features four apparatus bays, eight firefighter dorms, shower/toilet rooms, an exercise room, and a kitchen and dining area that opens to an exterior patio. A community room and lobby showcase the station’s history. The facility also houses the north side police, with offices and an interview room, enhancing emergency response for both fire and law enforcement. This new station replaces a facility built in the 1940s, providing a long-overdue upgrade for La Crosse’s first responders.

EAU CLAIRE FIRE STATION #10, EAU CLAIRE, WI Our firm assisted the City of Eau Claire with this new fire station for several years. Our firm worked closely with the City of Eau Claire, ECFD, and Five Bugles Design, from conceptual design and site selection. We worked with City Purchasing and Finance to assist in City Council and Committee approvals. The new fire station is a 19,676 sf facility with five apparatus bays, an attached office, training, and living quarters. The facility is built on a historical landfill and includes a soil vapor mitigation system.

BAYPORT PUBLIC LIBRARY, BAYPORT, MN Market & Johnson successfully completed the Bayport Library’s $1.6M, 16,581 sq. ft. renovation project in March 2023. The project aimed to improve building maintenance, accessibility, efficiency, and programming. Our scope of work included demolition, carpentry, structural enhancements, door installations, glazing, flooring, painting, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and exterior refurbishments.

WASHBURN COUNTY GOVERNMENT CENTER, SHELL LAKE, WI Washburn County’s new 60,000 square foot, 3-level masonry structure combines four county-owned buildings in one central location adjacent to the county courthouse and jail. The facility offers offices, meeting spaces, the county board room, and has room for future expansion. The building is the new home for County Administration, Social Services, Aging, UW Extension, and Veteran Services.

PIERCE COUNTY JAIL & SHERIFF’S DEPT., ELLSWORTH, WI Pierce County Jail & Sheriff’s 60,000 sq. ft. facility houses an 80-bed jail pod with the potential to expand to 120 beds with expanded kitchen, laundry, and storage areas to accommodate that growth. The facility’s design also allows for a future court building. The additional space allows the county to consolidate key departments into the facility, including the Sheriff’s Department, Dispatch Center, Emergency Operations Center, and the Huber Program. Other notable spaces include a lobby, jail administration area, an attorney visiting area, medical spaces, an expanded evidence area with a separate space for vehicle evidence processing, dedicated rooms for inmate programming and education, a sallyport, and mechanical and electrical spaces. We continue to work with Pierce County on their new Judicial Center addition currently under construction in Ellsworth, Wisconsin.

The 100-year-old EAU CLAIRE CITY HALL underwent an extensive renovation. The project included significant improvements to its workspaces, conference rooms, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, plumbing, electrical and data systems. The renovations also call for restoring the building’s historical features. The employees had to be relocated to temporary office spaces at the former Eau Claire 3M building while the building was under construction.
