Jack LeBrocq has secured the 2012 Australian Formula Ford Championship for Mygale after a dominant weekend at Bathurst’s famous Mt Panorama circuit.

LeBrocq took his Minda Motorsport/ CAMS Rising Star Mygale SJ12a to his third victory in three races to secure the round victory and gain an unassailable lead in the 2012 Championship.

Saturday morning’s second race of the weekend was held in damp conditions and LeBrocq drove away from the pack in the opening laps before maintaining his lead as the race came to a close.

the series and he simply drove away from the field in the final race of the weekend to claim the title.

The 2012 Series marks Mygale’s sixth Australian Championship win and the first back-to-back win for a manufacturer in the series since 2005.

Le Brocq’s title backs up the second position he scored in last year’s point score.

“It’s an awesome feeling to win the Championship, especially getting it done with a round to spare,” Le Brocq said.

“It’s a great honour to join the list of Formula Ford champions. Most of those guys are now in the V8 Supercar pit lane,

and that’s where I want to be.

“To win it with a three-peat at Bathurst at such a big meeting is a pretty special feeling.

“It’s hard to stay ahead with the slip stream around here, so to be able to pull away and take the wins was an achievement.”

The Championship victory was the first for the Bruin Beasley led Minda Motorsport squad who switched to the Mygale chassis last year.

LeBrocq also wins a test in Mygale’s Formula 3 chassis for being the leading Mygale driver in the series.

Venter triumphs in thrilling Victorian

Mygale has continued its domination of Australian Formula Ford in 2012, taking the top two placings in the Victorian Formula Ford Championship which wrapped up at Phillip Island in October The Victorian Championship, which acts as an unofficial feeder series to the National Championship, produced some entertaining racing over the course of its five rounds with Jonathan Venter and Anton DePasquale the dominant forces.

Venter came out on top, finishing with a tight nine-point margin over DePasquale.

The Sonic Motor Racing Services driver did all he could at the last round, taking two victories to one over the weekend, but it the was Sydneysider, in his Anglo Motorsport run Mygale, that triumphed after a thrilling, series-long battle.

Ash Quiddington finished the series in third, while the Minda Motorsport pair of Todd Hazelwood and Macauley Jones were fourth and fifth making it four Mygale

chassis in the top five placings.

“It shows that Mygale are really at the top of their game. So far this year we’ve won championships in the UK, Australia, New Zealand and the USA so we’re obviously doing something right!

Mygale ready to shake up Aus F3 Formula Ford champions Jack Le Brocq and Jonathan Venter will take to the wheel of Mygale’s latest Formula 3 in a special test to be held at Winton in late November.

The Australian and Victorian Formula Ford Championship winners received the call up as a special prize for being the leading Mygale drivers in their respective Formula Ford series’.

Mygale made its debut into Australian Formula 3 this year with a limited program and claimed two podium positions through the efforts of Cameron Waters and Jake Fouracre.

The new generation chassis is currently under construction at Mygale’s Braeside headquarters and will be unveiled in the coming weeks before a full assault on the 2013 Formula 3 Australian Drivers Championship.

Mygale’s Australian boss Greg Woodrow is excited about the prospects of challenging in another championship category and giving some of his young Formula Ford talent the chance to experience a ‘wings and slicks’ car.

“We’re really excited to be able to give two talented young guys a chance to drive our Formula 3 car,” Woodrow said.

“This year was really just a bit of a trial for us in the older model car and with limited testing but we’re looking to give the series a real shake in 2013.

“We’ve got a new car in the workshop currently being built up and some big announcements coming in the next few weeks regarding our Formula 3 program for next year, we’re all really excited about challenging in another category.”

Mygale will be out to replicate the results of Team JD Motorsport in the2012 Italian F3 series with a big effort planned for 2013

Hazelwood excels in Vic FF finale

Todd Hazelwood shone during the Vic FF Champs final round at Phillip Island

2010 Arrow Rewards winner Todd Hazelwood has finished his first season of Formula Ford in style, taking fourth place in the Victorian Formula Ford Championship.

The 17-year-old was quick in practice for the final round at Phillip Island, but unfortunately in the second session Hazelwood was involved in an accident, ruling him out of practice for majority of the day.

After practice on Friday, the teenager was determined to show everyone what he could do and qualified in third position, with a qualifying time of 1:58:000 in the tricky wet conditions.

Although Hazelwood wasn’t in contention for the series title he still had to defeat his team mate to claim an impressive fourth place in the championship in his rookie year.

The start of Race One was chaotic yet clean, with all positions being swapped throughout the top six. Hazlewood fell back to fourth but powered through the field in his Fujitsu Racing Mygale SJ07, securing a hard-fought second place.

The start was very clean, with the top five staying in their positions. As the cars went through Honda and the Hayshed, positions were swapped. Hazelwood starting dropping positions but kept pushing and passed the series leader for third place with three laps to go.

The South Australian had a clean start to Race Two but fell back to fourth position by the second corner. With the top five all battling for position it was going to be a

but unfortunately it was just too late. The two drivers crossed the line closely with Hazlewood finishing in second place for the round and fourth for the championship.

“Finishing second for the round is a fantastic result; it really shows how hard everyone has worked towards this result throughout this year. I couldn’t be happier with the work and efforts from Minda Motorsport, the Fujitsu ‘Cool Driver’ Program, Mygale Australia and my family throughout this season,” said Hazlewood.

“It was a great way to finish off my first season in Formula Ford, the weekend started off not ideal, but we bounced back strong in qualifying and showed our true potential in the racing.

“The racing was fast, tough and really enjoyable; the top five were always so close but it was great racing between us all. It was great to see the Fujitsu Racing Mygale at the pointy end of the field.

“Now that 2012 is done and dusted, I can’t wait to sit down and focus on making the 2013 season even stronger.”

Agostini takes the trophies in Italian F3 Ricardo Agostini has emerged victorious in both the Italian F3 Championship and the Italian F3 European Series after the final round of the championships at the famous Monza Autodrome last weekend.

Agostini recorded five race victories from six rounds in the Italian Championship and six races in eight rounds of the Italian Euro Series to take secure both Championships. His young Canadian teammate Nicholas Latifi also took a victory in his rookie Formula 3 season.

Driving his Team JD Motorsports Mygale M10 the young Italian took three fastest laps in three races to hold aloft the trophies at the conclusion of the weekend’s activities.

The Mygale Chassis, mated with the Italian Championship specification Fiat FPT engine, proved it’s mettle against a host of Dallara counterparts to take the titles.

Angelo impresses in maiden outing

Promising Evans Motorsport Group ‘Young Gun’ Chelsea Angelo has made her race debut during the final round of the 2012 Victorian Formula Ford Championship at Phillip Island last weekend.

Although using the meeting primarily as a warm up for a full assault on the 2013 series Angelo was immediately competitive.

Angelo qualified in seventh and, despite a puncture in Race One, finished with a seventh and two sixths in a large and highly competitive field that included a number of regular Australian Championship competitors.

Angelo was happy with her weekend, but was already thinking of her next outing and where she could improve.

“I was a little cautious on a few occasions where I could have grabbed a position if I’d have been a little more forceful,” said Angelo.

“But it was my first race meeting and I’m here to learn so overall I’m very happy with the results.

“I know there are some areas where I can be quicker next time so I can’t wait to get back in the car and race again.”

Team boss Josh Evans was elated with his young charge and the speed and

maturity she had shown.

“Throughout the whole year with us Chelsea’s attitude has been fantastic,” said Evans.

“She has great natural talent but in addition to that she knows that she’s here to learn - you can’t fault her application and the work she puts in.

“She made some great passes but was also a little cautious at times, still she learns quickly and will benefit greatly from the experience.

“We’re looking forward to seeing her continued development over the next 12 months.”
