Dear Friends and Fellow Cattlemen,
Welcome
A sincere thank you to our past customers for your confidence and support of our program. For new and repeat buyers alike, thank you for taking the time to evaluate our bulls and program. As many of you know, we are a family owned, first and second generation Montana ranch operation that began with Ellis’s first Angus cow in 1959. It is our hope and goal that every customer is completely satisfied and becomes another loyal repeat customer. As you consider your bull choices this spring, we hope you consider bulls raised by an operation that began by, and continues to, pay its bills with an Angus cowherd. Along the way, we began raising our own bulls to fit our own needs as well as our feeder calf buyer’s needs. Twenty years ago, we began offering the bulls we’d developed for our own cowherd, driven by our need to produce productive profitable cattle in a high cost environment, for sale to the public. This year’s Cream of the Crop offering continues that tradition and represents some of the very best of a half century of Angus breeding experience intended to develop the optimal Angus cows and calves for the commercial cowman who needs to, to put it simply, make it all work. These Cream of the Crop yearling bulls are the finalists from our final cut of bulls, each one making it past multiple encounters with a sharp knife. They’re out of some of our best cows, which we will put up next to any herd. These cows all come very close to meeting our ideals of easy fleshing, deep bodied, with even problem free udders and temperaments. A Boyd Angus cow needs to breed back every year and wean a heavy calf that has enough performance to pay the bills, even in the often rough, arid, and steep sloped environments of Western Montana. We have always found that really good calves come from really good cows and this set of bulls is no exception with an average weaning weight on September 17, 2020 of over 800 pounds. That average includes the entire offering of bulls in this catalog. These bulls lived exclusively on grass and momma’s milk as calves. Since weaning, they have been developed solely on loose hay and a limited amount of pellets to help ensure they hold up during breeding. We will PAP test them when we fertility test in early April as a service to our fellow cattlemen who run at higher altitudes, as we do. Historically, our herd has done very well at high altitudes and it has shown in the low average PAP scores historically. We’re very pleased to offer the following selection and we welcome you to stop by for a viewing and a cup of coffee anytime. Warmest Regards,
The Boyd Family

HERD HEALTH All bulls come accompanied with proper health certificates for shipment. All bulls are fertility tested with scrotal measurements. The bulls will be PAP tested by Dr. Ben Abbey the first week of April to assist our high altitude customers in their selections. After discussion with Tim Holt DVM’s clinic, we determined that PAP testing later in the spring (April) is of higher accuracy due to younger bull’s PAP scores having a tendency to change up to 13 months of age. If you are in need of low PAP score bulls, please inform us ASAP so that we can ensure there are bulls reserved for you. VIDEOS Videos and photos of many bulls are available. Link to videos is on boydangus.com. Call Mark at 406-5965646 for more information.
DELIVERY Free delivery within 400 miles. Beyond can be negotiated to what is most fair/ reasonable for the customer. SALES All sales are final. However, customer satisfaction is of utmost importance to us. If you have an issue with a bull, let us know and we will make it right. SIGHT UNSEEN PURCHASE GUARANTEE If your schedule or location does not allow you to come and see the bulls for yourself, give us a call and we will choose bulls based on your preferences. Satisfaction guaranteed or you are not obligated to take delivery of the bulls.

This performance/calving ease bull had a PAP score of 36. His dam is also noted for her foot quality and good udder. His calves have plenty of muscle, width (come and look at them!), and weaning weight, which follows with him ranking at the top of top of the breed for $B, WW, and YW.

(SAV Heritage pictured) Our top SAV Heritage son out of four years of SAV Heritage calves. Our Heritage calves have hindquarters so deep and wide you might need to worry if your crowding alley is wide enough. His dam is beautiful with an even bag, good feet, plenty of meat on her in all the right places, and a sweet temperament. This bull has a flawless phenotypic profile and lots of performance.

Megahit with a weaning weight of 912, is known for performance. Phenotypically, he has good foot and leg structure and lots of length and depth. He ranks at the top of the Angus breed for WW, RADG, $B, carcass, and foot scores. His offspring look a lot like him and were undoubtedly the longest set of calves we had at weaning. His daughters have a reputation for being balanced with short teats and lots of femininity.

Trapper’s Dam Emulous of Paintrock 93-9 Pictured at 10 years-old
We were drawn to Trapper after viewing him in person. Thick as they come, big and solid feet, and a PAP score of 40 at 4 years of age, we liked everything about him. After raising a set of his calves, we like him even more. Thick calves that were born really easy and tended to be on the lighter side. Their average daily rate of gain has not left us disappointed. A big bonus is that his heifer calves appear very promising currently and, if anything, we like them even more than his bull calves.

(HSAF Bando pictured) Defining the word Proven, our high-selling selection at the 2008 Treasure Bull Test has paid dividends over the past decade. We finally pulled him out of the semen tank again after over 10 years simply because, nearly every one of his gentle even-tempered daughters that we have had in production for 9-10 years now are the type cowmen dream of. Bando’s daughters are more on the moderate side frame wise with medium sized udders, but they’ll make you a believer in the power of butterfat because the performance in their calves is nearly unsurpassed in our herd, with his daughters have consistently weaning off some of our largest calves seemingly completely regardless of who they’re bred to. One notable Bando daughter has weaned a 900+lb. calf on the first week of September for 4 years in a row. To sum it up, they’re the kind of females that pay the bills.
