Hello and blessings! Christ Community Church has prepared this Church and Senior Pastor portfolio with prayerful consideration that it will guide us to the man God has chosen to be our next Senior Pastor. As a potential candidate, this packet will give you an overview of the history of Christ Community, along with information about our church, our community, and our ministries. The packet also includes a description of the leader we are seeking and contains instructions on the application process. Prayerfully consider how CCC’s congregational vision and values align with your ministry passion and calling. We are praying earnestly and passionately over this position and are seeking the Senior Pastor whom God has prepared for our church. We ask you to carefully consider this Profile and seek God’s will in your calling. We are promised that the Holy Spirit guides us into all truth, and confident that He is guiding you in your pursuit of His will for your life. We are excited to see how He works in our church and your life as we pursue His direction.

Dick and Dottie Evers, our founding pastor and his wife, literally dropped into Carmichael with a dream of starting a church to “Be the very presence of Jesus in the community.” On day 1, the church had a pastor and one congregant—his wife. They started to dream and pray about how they could build the church, and the Lord directed them to several key families, including the Brocks, Binghams, Dressers, Lowes, and Vegas. In the early days, they met regularly as a small prayer group gathered in the Evers’ garage, and they committed together to live out
that mission. As God literally added to their numbers daily, this fledgling group formed the foundation for a church community that has lived out that vision to this day to “Make Fully Committed Followers of Jesus Christ.” Today we carry forth the same vision that Dick and Dottie Evers began in 1961. Though the journey has been challenging, the last 60 years in the history of Christ Community Church have shown that the Gospel of Jesus is alive and well in the local church. We want to be faithful to continue what was started with a prayer circle in a garage on Winding Way in 1961.
FROMA 1961 GARAGE PRAYER CIRCLE TO A WEEKLY WORSHIPING COMMUNITY OF OVER 1000 ADULTS, YOUTH, AND CHILDREN.
Christ Community exists to be a community of Love, Acceptance, and Forgiveness. This mission is lived out in everything that we do as a worshiping community and through each ministry that we lead. The vision of Christ Communty is to be the very presence of Jesus in Carmichael and beyond. Finally, our five core values are Worship, Evangelism, Discipleship, Ministry, and Fellowship. Each of these values helps us to make fully committed followers of Jesus Christ. Our mission and values are foundational parts of why we have multiple styles of worship, with one traditional service and two contemporary services on Sunday mornings.
Christ Community Church is located in Carmichael, CA, 11 miles northeast of the State Capitol. Carmichael is an established residential suburban community of 75,000 people within the Sacramento Metropolitan Area, an area of 2.4 million people. Carmichael is situated along the American River and features a wide variety of great outdoor activities as well as being less than 90 miles from San Francisco, Lake Tahoe, and countless other great places to visit.
At Christ Community, worship is about far more than the style of music that is played on Sunday, it is really about embracing a lifestyle of worship to God in all that we do. This is why the teaching of God’s Word is the central part of every worship service and why all music and liturgy point directly back to the truth found in Scripture.
“God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”
John 4:24
Being fully committed means that someone is mature in their faith, not asking what is in it for them, instead taking up their cross daily and following after Jesus passionately. This means that each person has grown in their faith and has been transformed by the working of the Holy Spirit in their lives through the road to spiritual
maturity. We recognize that we have people at Christ Community in every stage of spirtual maturity and that has nothing to do with their age. Some are exploring faith, others are new believers, while still others are growing Christians, and others are fully committed followers of Jesus. We are all on a journey.
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. Acts 1:8
Therefore, let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God. Hebrews 6:1
For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. Mark 10:45
They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Acts 2:42
Each ministry is an integral part of the process of making fully committed followers of Jesus Christ through Love, Acceptance, and Forgiveness. We believe that the Gospel of Jesus allows people to belong to the gathering while they figure out what it means to believe in the truth of God’s Word and behave as the Holy Spirit transforms them. This BELIEVE -- BELONG -- BEHAVE model informs the Gospel truth of acceptace. Romans
5:8 declares, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
We do this in a wide variety of ways including caring (for infants, the elderly, the homeless, and many others), sharing the Gospel (with Arabic and Afghan refugees in Carmichael, the California Legislature, New Mexican Apaches, Israeli Jews, and many others), and equipping Christian leaders (in Carmichael, Russia, Ukraine, Asia, Latin America, and many other places). The following highlights but a few of our ministries; visit the minstries page at cccnow.com to see a full list of our ministries.
Christ Community has a dynamic Youth and Children’s ministry that intentionally reaches and disciples youth in the Carmichael area. Children’s, Middle School and High School Ministries are each led by gifted pastors who want to see the Youth and Children of Christ Community become fully committed followers of Jesus. The Children’s Ministry comprises Nursery through 5th Grade and includes Sunday morning and mid-week gatherings, and incredible events throughout the year including a summer Kids Fest, Club 54 Retreat, and fun-themed nights for kids to invite their friends. The Middle School and High School Ministries gather on Sunday mornings and mid-week, both providing incredible events as well as annual Mission and Summer Camp trips.
Celebrate Recovery is a Christ-centered 12 step program for admittedly broken believers. The program has been active at Christ Community for over 20 years and has brought hundreds closer to Jesus. Hurts (co-dependency, grief), habits (food, substance abuse) and hang-ups (unforgiveness, anger) are brought into the light and healed through a yearlong 12 step study where Christ is acknoledged as our only higher power. Post-COVID attendance is 75-100 people per week. Our participants serve Christ Community in staff and leadership positions, as well as in many other capacities at church events. Participants come from Christ Community, other local churches, and the community.

The CCC missions team endeavors to reach people for Christ around the block and around the world. Courageous generosity is combined with the admonition to GO. CCC is blessed with missionally minded members who have previously been or are planning mission trips. Everything from organized youth mission trips to 60+ mission and study trips are planned on the yearly calendar. Locally our area is a hotbed for a growing community of Arabic and Afghan refugees, so CCC has partnered with four different ministries helping to meet needs and introduce Christ. The Sunrise Christian Food Ministry, founded by CCC members, has many dedicated CCC volunteers and is another focus of our local giving. Globally 16 of our 24 ministry partners are spread around the globe and include countries such as South Africa, Brazil and Lithuania. Each ministry partner has an assigned CCC “point person” who keeps close contact with the ministry and is a liaison for prayer and funding.
Each of our services offers great worship music, guided prayer, a welcoming environment, and gospel-centered preaching. Multiple groups (comprising nearly 200 volunteers!) work to create God-honoring worship. They also provide fellowship and discipleship opportunities since new members are always welcomed. Christ Community offers two vibrant worship styles. The Contemporary Worship team includes 50+ musicians and vocalists, 10-12 of which come together to lead the two Contemporary Services on any given Sunday. The Traditional Service boasts robust opportunities for those who want to participate in the musical worship arts. The choir is for teens through adults who have a heart for worshiping the Lord in song. Multiple handbell choirs for children, teens, and adults allow both beginning and advanced ringers to find a place. The orchestra is for teens through seniors who play an instrument.
