THESOUTH SHORE EXHIBITION2023

On behalf of the Board of Directors, Management and Staff of The Big Ex, I want to extend a sincere Lunenburg County welcome to all the exhibitors, teamsters, special guests, the tens of thousands of spectators and tourists who plan to attend this, the 132nd annual South Shore Exhibition.
This year we have undertaken a number of upgrades and improvements around our grounds focusing especially on accessibility. With 43 acres of property and 27 buildings, our Grounds Crew and Maintenance Staff are constantly busy keeping up with the demands that a facility of our size requires. We have expanded and upgraded many paved areas to make walking much easier, especially for our senior guests. By the time we open our gates, the Plaza A and B Show ring lighting will be complete. All our new LED lights surrounding the Ring have been elevated on new poles to improve visibility. This will make a tremendous improvement for the thousands of fans attending the various pulls and competitions. Finally, after many years, we are so pleased to once again welcome back our American Ox Teamsters to participate in the International Pull. Teams from Maine and New Hampshire will be travelling northward to represent the USA. As a young boy, I can still hear that roar from the thousands watching as a Canadian teamster successfully pulled a winning load...and it is finally back in our community.
Like every year, we will kick off our week with the Pepsi Grand Street Parade Tuesday at 6pm. This year, the parade route will be High St. down Empire St. to King St. and up Dufferin to the Grounds. Campbell's Amusements will be back in our Midway with the largest collection of attractions and rides in the province. Get ready to ride The Fury!!!
Our entertainment line-up for 2023 is expected to be bigger and better. Thursday evening features the Turnbull Brothers, finalists from Canada's Got Talent, Friday will feature an unbelievable Eagles tribute band, "Hotel California" and Saturday night on our all new Main Stage at 9:00 pm, we have the multi award winning "High Valley"...Canada's highest selling Canadian Country Music band of all time. Of course, throughout the week, numerous local and regional entertainers will be playing in the Main Building and on the Grounds.
I want to personally thank all of our Sponsors who have donated so generously to make our competitions and activities attractive and draw competitors from all over Atlantic Canada to the Big Ex.
Hopefully we will have perfect weather and, with your unwavering support, the South Shore Exhibition will continue to be Nova Scotia's largest agricultural exhibition. See you all at the Big Ex.

tour internationally, and their stage show has evolved into one of the most impressive and popular productions on the North American soft-seat and festival circuits. Featuring original members within their strongest lineup to date, the band is enjoying what they do today more than ever - and it sure sounds like it!
When The Eagles stopped to catch their breath a few decades ago, having sold over 100 million records, collected six Grammy’s, and enjoyed six #1 albums, Hotel California began a pioneering journey through their history-making music that has taken them around the globe and thrilled hundreds of thousands of Eagles fans. It’s been a journey they could never have imagined back in 1986, but their dedication, unique musical gifts, and an obsessive commitment to doing this legendary music true justice in performance, set them apart from the many Eagles bands that came after them. Hotel California toured relentlessly from the 80’s straight through to today, setting the standard for world-class tribute productions as they went, and sharing stages with the likes of The Doobie Bros., Lynyrd Skynyrd, Gretchen Wilson, REO Speedwagon, and many more. From Japan to Dubai, Toronto to Texas, Hotel California has boldly taken the tribute band where none had gone before them, and changed an industry’s collective mind about how good a “tribute” band could really be.
Today Hotel California continues to
It won’t take you long to hear why legions of Eagles fans come back to see them time after time, and the top venues & festivals have them back again and again. The easy-going warmth that comes from the band onstage exemplifies the Southern California sound of the 1970’s. The experience of a Hotel California show isn’t just about the band – it’s about celebrating the music and the memories, and the band gets the audiences involved and on their feet! Close your eyes and you’re right back there...
For any band to continually exceed such high expectations this deep into their career, and remain at the top of their field for as long as Hotel California have, is a truly remarkable accomplishment. That’s why when top talent buyers need the proven, absolute highest quality Eagles show in the world, they book the original Hotel California year after year. – Steve Birnstihl,
The members of Hotel California have also performed in many other touring bands, such as The Guess Who, April Wine, Glass Tiger, Coney Hatch, and Foot In Cold Water.

With their signature sound of positive-minded, bluegrass-tinted country, Brad Rempel leads the critically acclaimed group HIGH VALLEY. The band has received praise from Rolling Stone, Pandora and more for soaring harmonies and memorable songs influenced by artists such as Diamond Rio, the Everly Brothers and Ricky Skaggs, the latter of whom has served as both a mentor and collaborator. As a frequent performer at the Grand Ole Opry, High Valley is known for their fan favorites “Make You Mine”, “Grew Up on That”, “I Be U Be”, and Top 10 US Country radio hit “She’s With Me.” A strong international appeal has earned them more than half a billion streams in the US and Canada, six Canadian Platinum certified singles, three #1s at Canadian Country Radio, two Canadian Gold certified albums, and back to back Gold certified singles in the US, making them the highest selling Canadian band in Country music history.
High Valley continue to make waves as a breakout act in country music. They received nominations for the ACM New Duo of the Year, and they have earned multiple CCMA Awards wins and Juno Awards nods. In addition to appearances on Live with Kelly and Ryan, TODAY and CBS This Morning, the rising group has brought their music to fans
across the world selling out shows in the US, Canada, Germany and the UK. For more information, please visit highvalleymusic.com and follow @HighValley on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

Great partnerships deliver great results. Just as a great horse and rider combination lead to great performances, the partnership between the Maritime Barrel Racing Association (MBRA) and Ram Trucks has proven to be a real winner.
Since their humble start in 1985, they have grown from 12 to more than 120 members. The MBRA provides speed events where youth, beginner and novice riders can compete alongside world champions. If you love speed, excitement and horses, we welcome you to get involved in the MBRA. Barrel racing is a timed rodeo event, where the fastest time is what matters most. Cowgirls and cowboys compete in the arena against each other and the clock.

One of the oldest family-owned businesses in Nova Scotia, we are delighted to have the Big Ex happening once again. The Freeman family has operated the mills in Greenfield, Queens Co. since the community was settled. Gorham Freeman built a water-powered sawmill in 1832 which produced lumber for the first houses there. Today we are a modern, sustainable forestry operation pumping over $40 million directly into the local economy each year.
We pay top prices for logs, studwood, woodland and standing timber. We also help landowners with the development and implementation of customized management plans. These provide landowners with money today while improving future woodlot value and legally reducing taxes. For details contact our Woodlands Department @ (902)685-2792 Ext.229
Although much has changed in 190 years, the Freeman family remains fully committed to sustaining the forests which support our families & communities. On behalf of all our employees, we wish competitors the very best of luck & hope you will enjoy the fun and festivities!

Whether you choose cremation or burial, one of the main purposes of a funeral or other ceremony is that it recognizes someone’s life and makes real the fact that the lifehas ended. One should not try to avoid or escape death, but rather try to make the funeral as meaningful and healing as possible.
We must recognize the fact that funerals are for the living; for those people who are suffering the loss of a loved one. It is through the funeral process that many emotional needs are met for those who are grieving and also where the grieving process begins. We are committed to providing you with and encouraging the personalization of services.
We’ll work together with you to create a tribute that is both memorable and comforting. Krista E. Corkum is a licensed embalmer and funeral director. Here at R.A. Corkum Funeral Home, we are proud to be a longtime Double Platinum sponsor of the South Shore Exhibition.
