DAY ONE

Introduction to PORTRUSH

GET GOLFING

The first stop on your list has to be Royal Portrush: host to the prestigious Open Championships, holding tournaments in both 1951 and 2019. Excitingly 2025’s upcoming Championships is being held on their home turf – an even better reason to book ahead for next year! At just a 20-minute stroll or ten-minute drive from the hotel, Royal Portrush Golf Club is located on the Causeway Coast an area of outstanding natural beauty, bordered by the traditional seaside town of Portrush, Whiterocks Beach, the Atlantic Ocean and in the shadow of Dunluce Castle. Notably, Royal Portrush also boasts the famous Dunluce Links: one of the most challenging golf courses on the planet. Named Golf Digest’s 4th best golf course in the world in their 2024 list, it’s unlikely any golf lover would tire of visiting, yet there are plenty more places to see (and play!) during your stay. At a 25-minute drive around the bay, Castlerock Golf Club can be reached. – recently Awarded Ireland’s “Hidden Gem” for Links Golf on the North Coast. Alternatively, you can head to Portstewart Golf Club at a slightly closer 15-minute car ride, which is remarkably home to three fine true-links golf courses.

DAY TWO

HISTORY &

CULTURE THE GIANT’S CAUSEWAY

With the Giant’s Causeway just five miles west, it’s a great place to start and one of the region’s most famous landmarks. A UNESCO World Heritage site, because of its beauty and geological importance, the Giant’s Causeway is thought to have been formed 50 to 60 million years ago, during the Paleogene Period. Made up of approximately 40,000 stone pillars, the Giant’s Causeway is the result of successive flows of lava inching toward the coast and cooling when they contact the sea. It’s a pure must-see on any visit!

CARRICK-A-REDE ROPE BRIDGE

Next on your list is Carrick-a-rede, a rope bridge first built back in 1755 by salmon fishermen. Of course, the bridge has since been restored for purpose and is now a popular National Trust tourist attraction. The bridge links the mainland to the small island of Carrickarede, spanning 20 metres in length and standing 30 metres above sea level. The bridge is closed during the winter months but is a thrill-seeking addition to your day of sightseeing during the warmer season. 24

DUNLUCE CASTLE

Stood on a headland between Portballintrae and Portrush, the ruins are also famously visible from the Dunluce Links. The present castle ruins date mainly from the 16th and 17th centuries and can be easily accessed from the mainland via a footbridge. Fancy taking a trip to all three? Explore tours with Dalriada Kingdom to hear the stories behind the landmarks as you visit. You can also explore this part of the coastline by helicopter. EXPERIENCES • MARINE & LAWN PORTRUSH

From Coasteering – a combined water and rock climbing activity to surf lessons or beach horse rides with the team at Crindle Stables, there’s plenty to try! For those who want to take to the seas, the Carrick-a-Rede sea safari is the perfect excuse to hit the water. Setting sail from Ballycastle, you’ll enjoy the beauty of landmarks including Mermaid’s Tears Waterfall, the Mermaid’s Seaweed Bath and the Smuggler’s Cave, all from a unique perspective often unseen by tourists. You may even spot local wildlife, such as porpoises, dolphins or even basking sharks!

DAY FOUR

Local FOOD AND DRINK One of the most appealing things about visiting Portrush is the thriving local food and drink scene that surrounds it. For those visiting for a few days or more, the Whiskey on the Rocks experience is something you can’t miss. Based at the world-famous Giant’s Causeway, you’ll taste whiskey distilled just a few miles away at the local Bushmills Distillery while sitting on basalt rocks in a quiet and reflective spot. If you enjoyed that, the distillery also put on tasting tours – a go-to for any whiskey enthusiast or those who want to try something new. For something completely different, Causeway Boats offers a Sunrise ‘Catch your Breakfast’ Tour, an interactive fishing experience, all with the hope of dining on your catch back at Chefs’ Kitchen ashore.

DAY FIVE

Something DIFFERENT

For the final day of your stay, it’s time to try something a little different! There are plenty of unique things to see and do in the areas around Portrush Adelphi, so once you’re done with the must-see sights, you’ll still have a few hours to head off the tourist trail. Particular picks include the Game of Thrones filming locations tour, from Storms End to The Kings Road. On the very same theme, fans can also opt to meet the real-life Direwolves from the series, famous from the very first scene of the show. Take from the small screen to the skies with Ulster Gliding Centre, where you can take part in your very own Introductory Flight, a wonderful way to experience the first thrill of gliding. If by the end of the trip, relaxing is more your thing, escape to Sauna and Sea for a dose of hot and cold water therapy at Portstewart Strand Beach. Immerse yourself in a truly restorative hot spa experience in their wood-fired Finnish sauna, known to help replenish health and wellness. Once you’re done, pop into nearby Harry’s Shack to sample a dinner of local seafood and cocktails, with the benefit of a patio with panoramic views. If none of the above feel like your thing, plan something a little more tailor-made with a bespoke travel itinerary, thanks to the team at Landmark. Experts in their field, Landmark offer Ireland’s most unique travel service, helping you unlock a deep understanding of all the landscape has to offer. EXPERIENCES • MARINE & LAWN PORTRUSH
