LUDO Meet Ludo, a pheasant whose name is derived from the Latin phrase, Lvdo Ergo Vivo, which means ‘I Play Therefore I Live.” This phrase, which is found on a keystone at Marine & Lawn Greywalls, embodies the spirit of the intrepid golf traveller and the Marine & Lawn Golf Hotels brand. Marine & Lawn Golf Hotels launched in 2021, led by the counter-culture investors and developers at Adventurous Journeys (AJ) Capital Partners. AJ Capital Partners was built to make the world a better place by making better places in the world. AJ specialises in creating distinct, locally inspired destinations, and the team saw an opportunity to create quality, bespoke golf hotels that live up to the legendary locations they call home. The Marine & Lawn journey began in Scotland, with the opening of Rusacks St Andrews and Marine North Berwick. From its beginnings in the Home of Golf, the collection has grown to include a legendary portfolio of hotels set beside some of the world’s most coveted courses across the UK and Northern Ireland. In 2027, Marine & Lawn crosses the Atlantic for the first time with the opening of Pine Needles in North Carolina.

Marine & Lawn Pine Needles, the brand’s first U.S. property, is nestled amongst the tall pines in the Sandhills of Moore County, North Carolina. The hotel is surrounded by three impeccably preserved, Donald Ross–designed courses, Pine Needles, Mid Pines, and Southern Pines Golf Club. Ross, born in Dornoch, Scotland, brought his links sensibility to the American South. Since its opening in 1927, Pine Needles has hosted the U.S. Women’s Open four times.
