Dear Maria Regina High School Family, It has truly been a banner year for our school community. The students have achieved academic, artistic, athletic, and spiritual greatness. Our staff has gone above and beyond to prepare our students for these successes. Our parents and families partner and support us generously and faithfully, and our alumnae, spanning generations, continue to champion the mission and achievements of our extraordinary school. While this is a banner year, we have not reached the peak, and that’s where you can help. As you read through this year’s edition of the QBII, the extraordinary accomplishments of our students, staff, and community members jump off the page. Last year alone: ● Maria Regina High School’s Class of 2025 received multiple Ivy League & top 50 College acceptances. ● Our AP Scholar Program had record-breaking results, resulting in earning the College Board’s 2025 AP Platinum Honor Roll Award – the first time in the School’s history. ● Our Varsity Basketball Team secured the State Championship title for the first time since 2008, our Volleyball Team qualified for the State Championships once again, and our student participation in all 11 CHSAA sports continues to increase. ● New extracurricular and service-oriented programs, such as HOSA, DECA, Catholic Mission & Outreach Officers, and more, were added to expand student leadership opportunities. From academic honors and scholarship awards to championship athletic seasons, service initiatives, and the notable accomplishments of our faculty, staff, and alumnae, these pages reflect our school as the vibrant, deeply mission-driven institution it is. As Principal, I am fortunate to witness this excellence every day and to be part of our students’ journey as they grow from girls to women. Looking ahead, we are focused not only on celebrating where we are, but on thoughtfully planning where we are going. Our Strategic Plan calls us to continue expanding academic offerings, strengthening innovation across disciplines, improving our facilities, and ensuring Maria Regina remains competitive, forward-thinking, and firmly rooted in our Catholic identity. None of this can happen without the incredible generosity of this community. I am deeply grateful for all of our benefactors and friends who give so selflessly of their time, talent, and treasure. Dear Maria Regina Community, It is truly a pleasure to connect with you and reflect on what has been an extraordinary year for Maria Regina High School. As a proud Alumna of the Class of 1975 and Chair of the Board of Trustees, I am deeply grateful to our families, alumnae, faculty, staff, and friends whose commitment and generosity continue to strengthen this remarkable school community. Your support allows Maria Regina to remain faithful to its mission while confidently preparing young women for the future. Maria Regina has always been a place that shapes confident, capable women of faith. This past year has been one of both meaningful growth and notable achievement. Our students have distinguished themselves academically, artistically, spiritually, and in service to others. We celebrated strong college acceptances, expanded academic offerings, and impressive student accomplishments in science, the arts, athletics, and leadership. At the same time, our commitment to service and faith formation remains central, with students continuing to live out our values in ways that impact both our local and global communities. Whether as an alumna, Maria Regina parent, Parent Association & Alumnae Association President, Vice-Chair of the Board of Trustees, or currently Chair of the Board of Trustees, Maria Regina has held a deep place in my heart for over 50 years. Maria Regina Raises the Bar: Awarded College Board AP Platinum Honor Maria Regina has once again set a new academic record as the only high school within the Archdiocese of new York’s Westchester region to achieve the College Board’s highly coveted Advanced placement (Ap) Honor Roll platinum designation. This prestigious honor places Maria Regina among only 8% of eligible schools across the U.S. and Canada, showcasing our commitment to academic excellence. Achieving College Board Benchmarks To earn Platinum status, Maria Regina students surpassed demanding benchmarks across three key metrics: • College Culture (Benchmark: 80%): 83% of the Class of 2025 took at least one AP exam. • College Credit (Benchmark: 50%): 56% of the Class of 2025 scored 3 or higher on at least one AP exam. • College Optimization (Benchmark: 15%): 26% of the Class of 2025 took 5 or more AP courses, including at least one in 9th or 10th grade.

Celebrating Excellence First Cohort of AP Capstone Diploma Students This year, at Maria Regina, we proudly celebrate the achievements of our first-ever cohort of Advanced Placement (AP) Capstone Diploma students. Sixteen bright and talented young women are embarking on a year-long research adventure that will lead them toward earning the prestigious College Board’s “Seal of Advanced Academic Maturity.”
Maria Regina has achieved remarkable milestones in our AP program this year: • AP Scholar rankings increased by 63% over the prior school year. • 66% of the 253 students taking AP courses scored 3 or higher on exams—up from 10% last year. • 100 students achieved the highest scores of 4 or 5. • 53% of the student body at Maria Regina took 464 exams across 18 AP courses, spanning all academic and artistic disciplines. • In addition to our AP achievements, we proudly celebrate the accomplishments of our first-ever cohort of AP Capstone Diploma students. Two years ago, Maria Regina High School became the only all-girls school in Westchester County and one of three high schools within the Archdiocese of New York to offer the elite AP Capstone Diploma program. The inaugural cohort of 16 students have completed their AP Research course, marking an important milestone on their path toward the AP Capstone Diploma, while a second group of 11 students is midway through year 1 of the programs AP Seminar.
Our dedicated students are currently engaged in AP Research, the culminating experience of a challenging program offered at only a select few high schools nationwide. They will write original academic papers, each ranging from 4,000 to 5,000 words, and present their findings to an audience, honing crucial skills for college and beyond. What’s the Buzz? The research topics tackled by our inaugural cohort are both diverse and compelling. For example: • gabriella Meyo ’27 explores how AI-based learning helps train new nurses. • Juliana Celestino ’27 examines the influence of female characters in media on gender perceptions. • Leah Filippelli ’27 investigates the impact of friendship dynamics on mental well-being. • Deniss Dedushaj ’27 evaluated the accessibility of ABA Therapy for children with autism in Kosovo. These impressive projects cover critical subjects—from social media’s role in politics to the environmental impacts of fast fashion.

Making History: Celebrating Our Young Scientists! This past February, Maria Regina High School proudly made history by hosting the first-ever Lower Hudson Valley South Division C Science Olympiad! This memorable event brought together over 500 aspiring scientists from 15 high schools and marked a significant milestone as the first high school in the Archdiocese of New York to host this prestigious competition in over 30 years. We not only shined as gracious hosts but also emerged as the top-performing Catholic high school, placing in the top 50% alongside some of the finest public and private institutions. Our talented students wowed the crowd with their skills across various STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) challenges, earning two medals and securing top placements in six different events. Standout performances included junior Fiona Kelly and sophomore Diamond Obegolu, who took home First Place in the Water Quality Lab event! Other impressive finishes saw our students earn fourth and ninth places in the Entomology and Chemistry Lab events, respectively. Our students truly embodied the Maria Regina spirit, meeting every event with a level of grit and intentionality that defines our school’s standard of excellence.

This event not only celebrated the achievements of our current students but also reinforced Maria Regina’s reputation in the community. It’s a wonderful opportunity to spark the interest of future generations of young women who aspire to learn and grow in an environment rooted in integrity and achievement. Excitingly, we’ve been honored with the opportunity to host next year’s Science Olympiad regional tournament as well, highlighting our commitment to academic excellence and community spirit. This milestone showcases our dedication to empowering students and continues to emphasize the vibrant legacy of Maria Regina as a leader in education. Join us in celebrating the accomplishments of our young scientists and look forward to the future they are helping to create! We continue to invite alumnae to join us in preparing our students for events like this, through mentorship or by volunteering to speak in classes to inspire women in STEM.
Annual Science Fair and Symposium Maria Regina High School proudly hosted its second annual Science Fair and Symposium this past June, showcasing the talents of student scientists through innovative, research-driven projects. This event emphasized critical thinking, creativity, effective communication, and independent learning.

With over 200 student-led projects, the fair covered diverse topics, including artificial intelligence, medicine, environmental science, and sports analytics. Highlights featured investigations on medicine diffusion in tissue, bias in AI algorithms, the Stroop effect, cell phone radiation, basketball scoring efficiency, optimal wind turbine design, and cognitive differences between handwritten and typed notes.

Tigers Excel in national Italian and Spanish Language Exams and Writing Contest An outstanding achievement for the young women of Maria Regina High School! This year, a record-breaking 66 students excelled in the 2025 National Italian and Spanish Language Exams and the Young Writers Contest. Their hard work and dedication highlight the school’s commitment to language education and cultural appreciation. “This is an extraordinary achievement by our top-performing students, setting a new record for Maria Regina for the largest number of students honored in these competitive exams and showcasing their talents as creative writers,” said Maria Carozza-McCaffrey ’99, Principal of the renowned all-girls Catholic high school. She added: “The students deserve a well-deserved shout-out of congratulations for their stellar performance, as well as for the invaluable contributions of their dedicated, inspiring teachers and families. Maria Regina is fortunate to have acclaimed World Language and English programs that help unleash the potential and creativity of our students.”
Celebrating Excellence Awards Received During Italian Heritage Month As part of our celebration of Italian Heritage and Culture Month, juniors genesis Argueta and nadia Mauro joined Dr. Laura Ponziani at the Proclamation and Recognition Ceremony held at Eastchester High School. Maria Regina High School was the ONLY Catholic School recognized at this prestigious ceremony. The event, co-sponsored by the Westchester Coalition of Italian American Organizations, the Società Onoraria Italica–AATI, and the Italian Heritage and Culture Committee of New York, honored outstanding students of Italian under this year’s theme: “Michelangelo: An Italian Genius (1475–1564).” Genesis, a double medalist in Italian (silver and gold), was recognized among Westchester’s most distinguished students. Nadia received a scholarship as the Winner of the 2025 Italian Essay Contest for her essay “Il genio di

Students Learn How to grow into Future Leaders at Annual Conference in Ireland
This past summer, 17 student leaders from our Maria Regina community participated in the prestigious Foróige Leadership for Life Youth Conference at Maynooth University in Ireland. This annual opportunity brought together over 300 young people from both Ireland and the U.S. for a transformative five-day experience focused on building confidence, compassion, teamwork, and leadership. Maria Regina’s students once again shone brightly, participating in workshops, listening to inspiring speakers, and tackling group challenges that enhanced their skills in communication, goal-setting, problemsolving, and leading with empathy. This year was particularly special, as two of our students delivered the opening and closing speeches—a tremendous honor! Grainne Egan ’26, one of the Foróige Society copresidents, opened the conference with a powerful speech about the importance of listening and respecting others.
Jennifer Martino’s closing remarks beautifully emphasized authentic leadership through support and courage. In addition to the conference activities, the Foróige Society embarked on an unforgettable journey through Northern Ireland, exploring vibrant cities like Belfast and Derry. Our Tigers visited historic sites, including Queen’s University and Belfast City Hall. They enhanced their understanding of local history by hearing impactful stories at the Museum of Free Derry, the Peace Walls, and Crumlin Road Gaol. This experience truly reflects the core of what Maria Regina strives to achieve: nurturing young women into confident, caring leaders ready to make a difference in the world. A heartfelt thank you to our Assistant Principal, Ms. Murray, for organizing this incredible trip, and to our dedicated chaperones, Ms. Weis ’14 and Ms. O’Connor ’15, for making it all possible!

Honoring the greatest generation: A Tribute from Maria Regina’s Valedictorian At Maria Regina High School, honoring the past while inspiring the future is a core value. This commitment was poignantly highlighted during the recent graduation ceremony when Melissa DeLuise, the Class of 2025 Valedictorian, delivered a heartfelt tribute to the Greatest Generation. As she prepares to embark on her next chapter at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, majoring in both Engineering and Pre-Law, Melissa’s address resonated deeply with her classmates, family, and the attending community. Her words served as a powerful reminder of the values we hold dear at Maria Regina.
“In moments of nostalgia as we reflect on our high school years or as we look ahead with uncertainty, let us remember: our true strength lies not merely in past achievements or future ambitions, but in our character, compassion, and courage,” she stated. “The Greatest Generation displayed extraordinary bravery, unity, and sacrifice that continue to inspire us today.”
A Call to Remember Melissa’s speech was especially timely, coinciding with the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day (VE-Day), which commemorates the hard-fought victory over the Nazi regime in World War II. Reflecting on this monumental occasion, she inspired her audience by emphasizing the lessons learned from this pivotal moment in history. Celebrating the Class of 2025 Beginning her speech, Melissa expressed her gratitude, “I would like to begin by thanking my friends, for I don’t know how I would have survived high school without you… and, to our steadfast administration and amazing teachers—thank you for continuously encouraging us throughout our journey.” She reflected on the relationships formed and the shared experiences that marked their years together: “I will miss the people whom I will no longer get to see every day. I will never forget the community and sisterhood we have formed these past four years through classes, pep rallies, talent shows, monthly masses, and retreats.” Melissa’s heartfelt message extended beyond nostalgia, urging her classmates to recognize their potential: “You all have the potential to succeed, and I do not just mean in your careers. The connections and memories you create and share are how you will get far.”

A Historical Moment Principal Maria CarozzaMcCaffrey ’99 remarked on the significance of Melissa’s message, noting that this graduation marked a historic moment—the first Maria Regina class to graduate under the leadership of an American Pope. Coincidentally, the announcement of the new Pope’s election also fell on May 8, the very date celebrated for VE-Day.
Values to Live By Melissa articulated the powerful message that each member of her generation carries the potential to effect change in the world. “The sacrifices made by those who came before us demonstrate that even in difficult times, our resilience and determination can guide us toward excellence,” she shared. “It is our values and mindsets that shape our identities and influence our lives and those around us.” In the spirit of the Greatest Generation, Melissa inspired her peers to embrace every opportunity: “As you go off into the next steps of your life, keep yourself open, take off any blinders, and seek opportunity for greatness.”
A Lasting Legacy Melissa ended her speech with a heartfelt farewell: “Congratulations, once again, to the outstanding Class of 2025. I wish you nothing but good fortune and the absolute best in your future endeavors. Thank you for being the best class I could have ever imagined. Go live courageously!” At Maria Regina High School, the mission remains clear—to empower young women to achieve academic excellence, foster compassion, and live lives full of charity, truth, and service. The school continues to nurture the values instilled by the Greatest Generation, inspiring students like Melissa to recognize the importance of courage and commitment in shaping a brighter future.
She expressed pride in how Melissa’s words connected a historical legacy with contemporary values, highlighting a generation whose selfless acts have allowed freedom to thrive. “Melissa’s address taps into the emotions of a generation whose sacrifices should never be forgotten. Her call to ’live courageously’ reminds us to honor these principles in our lives,”

Emotional Support: A Community Response at Maria Regina Beautiful Me Workshop: Empowering Our Freshmen Class We are committed to fostering the growth and development of all our students, particularly in cultivating a healthy selfimage. This year, our Maria Regina freshmen class participated in the Beautiful Me workshop, where they engaged in meaningful conversations about body image and confidence, with our faculty facilitators and peers.
In light of the ever-increasing challenges teenagers face today, the Maria Regina High School community came together to reflect on the preciousness of life and the vital importance of emotional support during challenging times. Under the leadership of Principal Mrs. Carozza-McCaffrey, the school reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a compassionate environment where students feel valued.
Developed by the Hance Family Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering young women, in loving memory of Emma, Alyson and Katie Hance, the workshop proved to be a

Maria Regina Students Show Heart and Service at 26th Annual Box City Campaign Facing freezing temperatures, 48 Maria Regina High School students spent the night in makeshift cardboard boxes during their annual Box City. Each year, this inspiring event aims to raise awareness and support for the region’s unsheltered homeless. Participants raised and contributed to a fund that raised approximately $1,000 for Midnight Run, an organization committed to providing relief to New York City’s homeless population. Before their 12-hour overnight commitment, students gathered in the courtyard where they heard from Dale Williams, Executive Director of Midnight Run, who expressed gratitude for their selfless efforts.
In an impactful display of compassion and leadership, students like Leah Croce, Mia Theiss, and Charlotte Sempre (pictured right) demonstrated the true spirit of service that Maria Regina encourages. Their participation not only sheds light on the challenges faced by the homeless but also embodies the school’s mission of fostering empathy and community involvement. As our students brave the elements, they remind us all of the importance of giving back and standing in solidarity with those in need. Together, they are making a difference, one cardboard box at a time.

Code Like a Tiger: “Girls Who Code” Roars to Victory!
In an exciting debut, Maria Regina High School’s girls Who Code Club took home first place in the Beginner Category at the annual Ardsley Hacks Hackathon! Just under a year since its establishment, the club showcased its skills and creativity in this competitive event hosted by Ardsley High School. “It was a resounding achievement!” exclaimed Shelagh Amann, the club’s computer science instructor. “For the first time, our participants stepped into the world of hackathons, tackling challenges and proving that dedication brings success. I couldn’t be prouder!” The victorious team, creatively named “Tigers Who Code,” included freshmen Isabella Bendick and Angelina Nguyen, along with junior Elizabeth Hunt. The trio tackled the theme “dollars and data,” seamlessly blending finance with technology to craft an impressive project that wowed the judges. Their hard work paid off as they were recognized for their outstanding coding skills, even as newcomers to the hackathon scene. With this victory under their belts, the “Tigers Who

Amayah Bolling De Grace ’26 committed to play college softball at Morrisville.

Continuing with an independent schedule, the team secured a key victory by defeating Portchester. All players participated in both singles and doubles matches, focusing on teamwork. Sophomore Angelina Nguyen ’28 has earned a spot in the Iona University Bruce Beck Broadcasting Camp in July.

"When asked why I made a bequest in my will to Maria Regina (to the 1957 Legacy Society), I realized it’s about more than simply giving back to a place that provided me with the support and education I needed to succeed in life. It’s also about ’paying it forward.’ By enabling Maria to continue educating future generations of young women, I pay homage to the teachers and administrators of the 1980s, who shaped my experience as a student. The care, attention, and support they offered me are now something I pass along through my gift. Girls I will never know will benefit from my journey, and more importantly, from the dedication of those remarkable women who devoted their careers to Maria, helping many first-generation college success stories. The girls of the 1980s often became the women who were the first in their families to become doctors, lawyers, managers, Wall Street professionals, entrepreneurs, and more. Career Days Makes a Difference! Alumnae Inspire Future Leaders
MRHS celebrates Career Day each spring, an event that is always highly anticipated. This year, as well as last year, the school welcomed distinguished alumnae from seven decades, spanning the 1960s to today, to share their journeys and inspire students in honor of Women’s History Month. Each year, over two dozen alumnae return to lend a hand to their Tiger sisters. 2025 Keynote speaker Judy Melillo ’94.
In 2025, the keynote speaker, Judy Melillo ’94, exemplified perseverance in her journey to corporate law. As the first woman corporate officer at Fujifilm in the U.S. and now General Counsel at HomeServe USA, Judy emphasized the importance of defining personal success and evolving through challenges.“Life is unpredictable… your career is a journey, not a destination. Embrace the twists and turns along the way,” she advised.
Judy was among alumnae representing diverse fields, including science, engineering, education, and law, highlighting resilience and hard work. The event featured breakout sessions tailored to various career interests, allowing students to engage directly with professionals. patricia McCaffrey ’90, a Principal and Mechanical Engineer, shared her father’s advice: “Make sure you love what you do, because you are going to be doing it for a very long time.” In 2026, the excitement continued with keynote speaker Toni-Ann Sforza ’06, who serves as the Chief Operating Officer at Municipal Credit Union, one of NYC’s largest credit unions. In her role, she oversees operations, people strategy, digital delivery, and member experience, always focused on service and operational excellence.

As students envisioned their futures, the message was clear: success is a Toni-Ann shared her dedication to creating an empowering workplace where individuals can thrive, emphasizing some simple but impactful suggestions for future success: “Say yes to opportunities,” she advised. “Careers do not always take a straight line. Work harder than the person next to you, take the jobs nobody else wants, be humble, and get comfortable being uncomfortable; stepping out of your comfort zone opens up new doors.” In addition to Toni-Ann, the event featured two esteemed closing speakers: Chavonne Collins ’99, a dedicated legal and nonprofit professional with nearly two decades of experience spanning law firm opera-
tions, financial management, and youth development, and Catherine Drumm Biviano ’89, DNP, RN, NPD-BC, ONC, NEA-BC, who has worked in various capacities within the nursing field for over 30 years. Every year, our wonderful alumnae answer our call and come out in force to expand our MRHS students’ view of the world ahead and the myriad opportunities available to them.

CELEBRATing A MULTi-FACETED EDUCATOR Inspiring Future Architects: Mr. Ettore Spatola

We are excited to highlight the remarkable journey of Mr. Ettore Spatola, a dedicated teacher at Maria Regina High School who has made a significant impact during his time here. With over 11 years of teaching experience, Mr. Spatola brings extensive knowledge to our school community.
At MRHS, Mr. Spatola teaches several levels of Italian Studies as well as various math courses like Algebra and Pre-Calculus. He also recognized students’ interest in architecture, leading to the introduction of an Architecture course that blends creativity with technical skills.
Before joining MRHS, Mr. Spatola was a teaching assistant in Urban Ecology and Landscape Design at the City College of New York. He studied architecture in Italy, graduating summa cum laude with a Master’s in Biological Architecture, and later taught mathematics at La Scuola d’Italia.
This course is open to juniors and seniors, allowing students to explore building design from initial concepts to final projects. They will work on proposals for structures like a theater, swimming pool, gymnasium, or church that could enhance our school community.
Mr. Spatola’s professional career is as diverse as it is impressive. He worked as a Project Manager at Margulies Hoelzi Architecture in Midtown Manhattan for five years, where he honed his architectural expertise. Seeking new challenges, he transitioned to teaching at a charter school in the Bronx in 2019, eventually finding his way to Maria Regina High School.

We had the honor of welcoming Gail Carson Levine, the amazing author of the beloved book Ella Enchanted. This year marks 20 years since the book was published, and it was a true pleasure to hear her speak. Gail’s story offers a fresh take on the classic Cinderella tale. Instead of just searching for a prince, she emphasizes the importance of finding your voice and being independent. During her visit, she explained how she wanted to challenge the usual fairy tale themes of passivity. Her message is that true happiness comes from knowing yourself, making your own choices, and standing up for what you believe in.

We’re proud parents to two wonderful sons, Christopher, a doctor, and Kevin, an airline pilot. Before my current position, I worked in corporate taxation at EY, focusing on construction and real estate compliance. Outside of my professional commitments, I actively contribute as the social media coordinator for the Italian Welfare League and volunteer with various Italian American organizations. In Spring 2023, I graduated magna cum laude from Binghamton University with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering, where I double-concentrated in pre-med and Biomedical Devices & Instrumentations. Following that, I enrolled in the 4+1 program at Binghamton University and received my Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering in Spring 2024. Throughout my graduate studies, I was actively involved in research at the Biological Soft Matter Mechanics Laboratory, where I examined the wrinkling of human fingers when immersed in water. In July 2024, I began my current role at Regeneron in Rensselaer, NY, in Technical Operations. As a Compliance Specialist, I work cross-functionally with several teams to investigate deviations during manufacturing operations and implement measures to prevent reoccurrences. ________________ Mary Camaj 2019 Mary Camaj was recently honored at the Albania Flag Raising Event in Bowling Green Park, celebrating the 113th Anniversary of Albanian Independence. Mary was one of three individuals recognized for her contributions to the Albanian community. Her accomplishments include her artistic career as a traditional Albanian dancer, both through community events

Notably, she was the first student at Columbia University to take an Albanian proficiency exam, achieving a perfect score that fulfilled the foreign language requirement for her Master’s in Political Science. SpOTLigHT: Theresa Simmonds “aka Tough Tony” Theresa Simmonds, a beloved educator, began her remarkable journey at Maria Regina High School (MRHS) in 1957 as a member of the founding religious order, the Sisters of the Resurrection. Born and raised in Staten Island, Theresa entered the convent in 1951, inspired by her upbringing in her home parish and school, St. Stanislaus Kostka. There she was profoundly influenced by the Sisters of the Resurrection who taught her, including her father’s younger sister, Aunt/ Sr. Redempta. Prior to her time at MRHS, Theresa, known as Sr. Therese Anthony, launched her teaching career at St. Casimir’s Parish in Yonkers, NY, from 1956 to June 1957, where she taught 5th grade. In February 1957, she was called to join MRHS as one of the first educators to live and teach in the convent while the new school was being built. The Sisters of the Resurrection took pride in sending their best teachers to open Maria Regina, and this was a source of pride for Theresa and her fellow educators. At MRHS, she taught Latin and Social Studies to students in grades 9 through 12. During this time, she earned a B.S in Education and Master’s in Latin at Fordham University. Many of her students later recalled how her classes, especially Latin, significantly aided them throughout their academic journeys and life. Teaching 9th through 12th grade Latin was no easy task for either teacher or student, but Theresa
was known for her fair yet firm teaching style and quickly earned the affectionate nickname “Tough Tony.” Theresa created meaningful relationships with countless students, many of whom maintained contact long after graduation, and some even today, 55 to 65 years later. Her dedication to education and the personal connections she fostered shone through as she recounted the school’s early days, including the excitement of moving into the unfinished building in January 1959, which initially only had classrooms on the first floor. Theresa fondly remembered how faculty and students looked in awe as the school seal was installed in the front lobby of the brand-new building. In the spring of 1968, amidst the changes brought about by the Second Vatican Council, Theresa and several Sisters left the order. Although returning to Staten Island was a difficult decision, her passion for teaching never waned. Catholic Education became her life’s work. From September 1972 to June 1986, she taught Religion and English at St. Joseph by the Sea. Then began sixteen years as principal of two elementary parish schools. During this time, she dedicated her Saturdays to earning a master’s degree in administration and Supervision from Manhattan College. Once retired from work in school, Theresa spent the next eight years as Director of the Catechist Formation

Program. She again continued her education to help her with this position – a Master’s in Scripture Studies at St. Joseph’s Seminary. In February 2011Theresa began teaching in the New York Catholic Bible School. She maintains that teaching these classes is “the shining pinnacle of a very rewarding career.” Throughout her career, Theresa Simmonds has positively influenced generations of students. Her unwavering commitment to education and the welfare of her students exemplifies the mission of MRHS. The legacy she created is one of compassion, discipline, faith, love and enduring support for her students and her school communities. We are immensely grateful for her contributions to Maria Regina High School and the profound impact she has had on the lives of so many.

JUDiTH KLinT TignER ’65 After Maria Regina, Judy attended Bellevue School of Nursing in New York City and has dedicated her career to serving others as an Operating Room nurse in New York and Virginia. Since 2000, she has passionately volunteered with the Virginia Hospital Center Medical Brigade, also known as Volunteers for Honduran Communities Medical Brigade. Over the past 25 years, Judy has traveled tirelessly to Honduras, at least twice a year, performing life-changing surgeries and providing critical medical care to the underserved in some of the most challenging conditions with basic accommodations and limited resources. A dear friend, who nominated her, shared that Judy always dreamt of practicing nursing. She shared, after reading about these new awards I thought of Judith and how she has put into practice Maria Regina’s motto, ’Caritate et Veritate,’ through her service to others in ’charity and truth.’” It was our distinct honor to award Judith Klint Tigner the Caritate Service and Faith Award, recognizing her lifelong devotion to service, her unwavering faith, and her leadership rooted in love and charity. She truly exemplifies the high ideals of Maria Regina and the spirit of living out our motto in her service to humanity.

Luanne’s long history with Maria Regina is a testament to her deep commitment and love for our school. Her family’s legacy runs strong —her sisters, Domenique ’77 and Toni Ann ’84, as well as her daughters Jennifer ’01 and Nina ’05—are all proud alumnae of Maria Regina.
Helen’s deep commitment to our school and its mission has spanned close to three decades. She began her service to Maria Regina in 2000 as a volunteer and was one of a small dedicated group of alumnae who helped create the Alumnae Association. Throughout the years, Helen has generously given her time, talent, and treasure to support the school in countless ways. After many heartfelt asks, she accepted a role on the Board of Trustees in 2018, further exemplifying her unwavering dedication. Since then, she has continued to give back in any way possible, whether it’s helping us to plan a golf outing, sharing suggestions and connections to support campaigns and special events, or helping onboard new Advancement staff, she is always there.
A graduate of Iona College with a Bachelor’s in Accounting, Luanne and her husband Wayne currently own and operate LTD Accounting Services, Inc. But her greatest contributions have been to Maria Regina. Since 1998, when her daughter Jennifer was a sophomore, Luanne began her volunteer service through the Parent Association. In 2000, she helped start the Alumnae Association and served in numerous leadership roles, including President of both the Parent and Alumnae Associations. Her dedication deepened when Sr. Danielle asked her to join the Board of Trustees in 2008 as Vice Chair. Since then, Luanne has played multiple vital roles, including Chair of the Board of Trustees, only taking a brief hiatus before graciously returning to serve once again as Chair.
Following in the footsteps of her family; her cousin Sara Keating ’86, her sister Noreen Keating Sankbeil ’92, and numerous other relatives, Helen has consistently exemplified unwavering loyalty, faithfulness, and love for Maria Regina. Her strong and enduring support, both in life and through her service postgraduation, has helped shape and sustain the spirit of our school for generations.
Luanne’s unwavering belief in Catholic education, her strong support for Maria Regina’s mission, and her dedication to empowering young women to uphold Christian values exemplify her steadfast loyalty and service. Her commitment over more than two decades has significantly shaped the strength, mission, and future of Maria Regina High School.

Currently, as Sr. Director in North America at Visa, she leads key relationships and growth initiatives within Visa’s Grocery & Drug vertical, demonstrating excellence, resilience, and a commitment to making a meaningful impact. Her prior roles at Sysco, Choice Hotels, ATA Airlines, and US Airways showcase a richly diverse career, marked by dedication, strategic vision, and a passion for mentorship.
Kiera O’Connor embodies the qualities of joy, kindness, and a willingness to help, showcasing her deep connection to Maria Regina. Her commitment to the school’s mission of "Caritate"— love, compassion, and service—shines through in all she does.
Yet, when Vicky was notified she was receiving this distinguished award, her humility shone through. She modestly shared that what she is most proud of is how she raised her two children, instilling in them her Catholic faith, values, and love of family, values deeply rooted in her Maria Regina education. She often recalls her admiration for Sr. Danielle, describing her as witty, caring, and a true role model, and cherishes the lifelong friendships she formed at Maria Regina. For Vicky, faith and a solid education have provided the strength and character to navigate life’s challenges, both in her professional endeavors and personal life. She attributes her success and resilience to the foundation built at Maria Regina and a faith that continues to guide her. Beyond her career, she dedicates herself to mentoring talent and fostering inclusive relationships, embodying the integrity and dedication that define the Veritate spirit.
After graduating, Kiera earned her degrees in education from Manhattan College and began her career as an Administrative Assistant for the St. Barnabas Religious Education Program, where she brought the Christian values instilled at Maria to a new setting. Now a 2nd-grade special education teacher in the NYC Public Schools, she exemplifies faith-driven leadership and resilience while also supporting her alma mater.

In 2024, Kiera was honored as an Aide to the Grand Marshal in the Yonkers St. Patrick’s Day parade for her community service, reflecting the importance of volunteering instilled in her at Maria Regina.
