Known as the “Left-Handed Designer,” Seymour Chwast is an outstanding American graphic designer and illustrator who has influenced visual culture from 1940 up to the present day. People distinguish him by his innovative, unique, and playful ability to master numerous styles and mediums. Born in 1931 in New York City, Chwast studied at The Cooper Union. In 1954, he co-founded, along with Milton Glaser, Reynold Ruffins, and Edward Sorel, the iconic Push Pin Studios, thus revolutionizing the world of commercial art. Chwast’s work includes publicity art, posters, food packaging, magazines, books, and record covers. In addition, he is recognized for his political, cultural, and social graphics. His brilliance as a designer has been identified by his distinctive style and historic influence, varied formats, design activism, and legacy.
