In «Notes on Salsa» setzt sich Katherine Patiño Miranda mit der wegweisenden Arbeit «Funk Lessons» und «Notes on Funk» der amerikanischen Künstlerin Adrian Piper auseinander. Die kolumbianische Künstlerin Katherine Patiño Miranda hingegen interessiert sich für Salsa. Während ihrer Residenz im «Limited Contract» erteilt sie Menschen unterschiedlicher Herkunft Salsa-Lektionen. In gemeinsamen Workshop Performances erkundet sie die Geschichte von Salsa, und stellt dabei den Begriff der Nationalität als ein natürliches Konzept in Frage.

In «Notes on Salsa» Katherine Patiño Miranda approaches Adrian Piper’s seminal work «Funk Lessons» and «Notes on Funk». During her residency at «Limited Contract» she conducts Salsa Lessons with people from diverse backgrounds in terms of a workshop performance, tracing the history of Salsa while breaking down its basic steps.

Alle sind eingeladen, beim Tanzen und Zuhören die Sprache und Hintergründe von Salsa näher kennenzulernen. Die Arbeit «Notes on Salsa» schlägt vor, die Residenz als einen Ort der Vermischung zu begreifen: «We are all Salsa.» Katherine Patiño Miranda beabsichtigt dadurch ein tieferes Verständnis für die weltweite Mobilität zu schaffen, in einer Zeit, in der das Konzept der Nationalität und des Nationalstaates die Bevölkerung noch immer hierarchisch in Einheimische und Fremde einteilt.

Zurich residents are invited, while dancing and listening, to learn more about the language and background of Salsa. The work «Notes on Salsa» proposes the residency as a place of mixture: «We are all Salsa». Katherine Patiño Miranda seeks to trigger a deeper understanding of the increasing mobility around the globe at a time when the concept of nationality and nation state still hierarchically divides populations into locals and aliens.
