FLOOR PLAN: The Japanese concept “Ikigai” explores the idea of f inding happiness and fulf illment in life through purpose, that is, to unearth a deep desire, motivation, or simply a reason for being and continuing to exist. Warby Parker’s “Ikigai” was born with its founders, whose passion and commitment to make affordable designer eye-wear came f rom the need to make the world a more equitable and just place. The brand’s revolutionary essence and giving nature have the opportunity to be amplif ied if captured in the design of their retail and off ice spaces. These environments would become a physical manifestation of their “Ikigai”, a constant reminder for them and their community to continue leading with integrity and never forget about their “why”.

FLOOR PLAN: A Paradox occurs when two opposing ideas or situations co-exist as irrevocable truths, something that may seem logically impossible and yet makes perfect sense. Modern-day Amsterdam with its rich industrial past and liberal present, welcomes innovation and forward-thinking

without

disregarding

its

long-established

traditions and cultural heritage, becoming the perfect example of a contradiction in time. Our experiential hotel design will embody the city’s unique dual essence, paying homage to the building’s

factory origin as well as its current open-minded reputation. Through an immersive design that is rooted in Amsterdam’s inclusive nature and global cultural presence, the hotel will offer guests an authentic experience of the city’s modern-day philosophy, allowing them to live in a time paradox where past and future become one and the same.
