Pandacan is an infamous site for informal settlement since the easement of the river, under government ownership, is unoccupied. The recent shutdown of the oil depot in freed up land and provided an opportunity to decongest and safely relocate the slums in the area.
The concept of the building is to prove nature can cohabitate in a dense urban city such as Manila. The building essentially harnesses natural resources (wind, water, and sunlight) as efficiently as it can.

revive Capitan Pepe in such a way that it retains and improves its heritage reputation but also adapt a function that better serves the people it is directly involved with. With that in mind, considering Capitan Pepe is a spacious building in the brunt of a commercial wave, the best line of action as of now is to work together with the context. Limitations of course are recognized such as deterioration of surroundings, unfortunate blockage of sunlight from neighboring structures, and loosened maintenance of the structure itself, however, there is hope for the building as long as it still stands and is capable of telling its memories. The goal of the park is to compete with social media for the interest of its users through the use of stimulating colors, spaces for collaborative activities and meditation, alluring natural environment, and winding pathways. Movement through the park is intentionally non-linear to increase phusical activity and enhance the user’s awareness for his surrounding.

My ARCES04 was a really memorable learning experience for me. I was introduced to concepts that I go back to even now. The Solid-Void Exercise in particular helped me understand the importance of the non-built environment and how it can be used as an architectural program or design element despite being an empty space. These lessons I applied to the next project, a mixed-use development building.

The project aims to revitalize the Sangley International Airport as a means of community enrichment through the concept of Biomimicry rooted in the collective behaviour of domestic mollusks.
Mussels are identified as the main design element due to its status as the main product for livelihood of locals. A tourism center operates within the proposed oyster mussel farm that adapts to the tide of the sea. The space is designed to create different experiences with the rise and fall of the water.

The project site, BASECO, is regarded as one of the biggest slums in the Metro Manila area. It was formerly a shipyard located by the mouth of Pasig River, which flows from Laguna Bay Lake to Manila Bay. Its low elevation makes teh site vulnerable to flooding during storm surges and heavy rain. BASECO is disorganized, vulnerable to crime, and dilapidated. the proposal, ‘in-between,’ has the goal of bringing new urban quality by formalizing the residential area without compromising the baranggay’s identity and vitality.
