01. The
PROMENADE

S
allent del Llobregat is a small city near Barcelona. The river Sallent de Llobregat divides the region into two parts. This division is unbalanced: the bigger part embraces all the activities, parks, plazas, and public equipment... The smaller part has been forgotten and abandoned. The proposal focuses on this ignored territory, giving him a new path along the river, creating a new focus of activity, attached to the natural beauty of the site.

The entrances Facing the river, there are many secundary entrances to the dwellings. It is proposed a new material that cuts the lineality of the promenade. The path in front of these entrances is differently paved in order to bring to the neighboours a stronger role

The square In the middle of the prommenade there is a narrow paved street that crosses it. We place a square in this intersection, in order to propose a space to sit and rest, beneath the shadow of an elm tree.

The lookout At the end of the prommenade there is a stunning view of the industrial past of the city. A lookout is placed there, made of cyclopean concrete (with river stones).

02. The
CIRCULAR market
_location: Sao Paulo _year: 2016 _center: Escola da Cidade
P
aranapiacaba is located between Sao Paulo and Santos, in a strategical location because it bounds the big metropole with the port city. This small town was established as a company town for the employees of São Paulo Railway, a privately-owned British railway company. A large industrial complex and a British village were built. Nowadays Paranapiacaba is only maintained by tourism. The proposal hopes to push a new economic sector by reactivating the train infrastructure, which will connect the town and bring products from the neighbors’ cities. To distribute and sell new products, the proposal focuses on reactivating the old supermarket in the town. It will become a new center for the inhabitants, being a civic building and a plaza at the same time.

T
he neighbourhood of Les Planes was born in the mid-twentieth century, with the arrival of families from different parts of Spain, who self-build their own homes. The topography of Les Planes is characterized by being particularly marked, and mobility and accessibility become a problem recognized by neighbours. RUTA RINGO RANGO project aims to improve the mobility and promote a fast connection between streets. Studying the urban plan of the site, we discovered that there are public paths crossing the plots. We took these existing ways (named historically ringo rango paths) to locate our intervention.

Our team of 25 students planned a 0 cost design using concrete test specimens, which represent a big waste for the construction industry. The construction system doesn´t require mortar and it´s easily reversible. The test tubes are embedded in the ground and fixedbetween them by filling the voids with small gravel. The entire project was built with our hands and sweat.The project was part of the Spanish Exhibition at the Biennale of Architecture 2018. FACTORY

L
ocated in an industrial area in the Eixample of Barcelona, student housing is suggested. The project aims to preserve the pre-existing architectural elements of the site. There is an old abandoned factory enclosed by a brick wall, two elements of high architectural value. The new intervention is placed around the existing elements, bringing them more value. The old factory becomes a common area for the students and the neighbors, where they can study and rest. Every floor has also a common area with a kitchen and a rest area to balance out the reduced area of the individual units.

The shelters are made of CLT wood structure, supported on a concrete base. This base contains a library and little studio units, naturally lighted.

CUBE
_location: Stockholm, Sweden _year: 2014 _center: ETSAV
P
laced on a special location (the cemetery of Asplund and Lewerentz), a ceremonial space had to be designed. Having a spatial limitation (a cube of 10x10x10m) a division of this cube on three different spaces was proposed. Each space is related to a basic element: water, fire, and air. The junction of these interventions creates a spiritual path that leads to the final goodbye.
“Each ceremonial space is related to a basic element: water, fire and air.� The water pavilion represents sadness after having lost someone loved. Then comes the light area that refers to the acceptance of such loss. Finally, the wind pavilion takes the ashes away, representing the final goodbye.

P
laça Catalunya represents Barcelona’s heart. In between two different types of neighborhoods, this plaza is a tourist and busy center for the city. This is a public space avoided by citizens and crowded with tourists. Spread chaotically, many sculptures can be found. A small tourist information center is placed there too. Besides, several metro infrastructures convert on different levels. The proposal wants to rethink this space as a vibrant, local center, where tourists and local people can find opportunities. It is intended to bring more identity to this central place and reorganize its elements. In the early XX century, two big diagonals crossed the plaza. The proposal tries to bring that back.

The leftover spaces are converted into densified gardens, populating them with bee-friendly plants and trees and relocating the existing sculptures, placing the most iconical one in the middle. In its center, the floor is reconverted into a concrete and glass structure, which is a canopy for the newly covered plaza underneath. The underground plaza connects the different existing metro entrances and the parking lot in the southeast. At the same time, it contains the existing program found in the old plaza. The rest of the oval is completed with many small businesses that sell local products, to bring back the parochial life in Barcelona’s heart.

STRAW BALES
_location: La Pan Tan, Vietnam _year: 2020 _type: COMPETITION (preselected)
I
n the North of Vietnam, in a region called La Pan Tan, the landscape is overwhelming. It´s a region of terraced rice fields, placed in a hilly area. The competition asked for a new Tourist Accommodation placed in the fields. The proposal tries to minimize the intervention of the landscape by placing the accommodation where the existing town is, next to the river and the road, served by all the infrastructure needed. In the rice fields, we place distinct pavillions to support both tourists and inhabitants. These pavilions are points of lookout, shadow, washrooms. They are located along the same contour, at 1215 m of altitude. The constructive method of these structures is based on the straw bale, a natural waste of the harvest of nice. It is reused to infill the ballon frame structures, insulating the facade and also bringing more inertia to the building.

his project is the proposal for a competition to build a Secondary School in the city of Vancouver. Being constrained with a very low budget, the very first strategy is to stack the classroom block in one volume and put together the big programs such as the gym and theatre in another. The space that connects these different volumes becomes the heart of the school, the atrium, from where one gets different views of the multiple programs.

We suggested extending the interior atrium with a exterior common space that could hold activities such as basketball, movie screening, 100m running track, conversation spaces, and informal play. There was special attention in creating two differentiated entrances. The public one facing Oak street, and the main one used by students, facing the parking lot.

he current track and field facilities located in Bear Creek Park (Surrey, Vancouver) have served the community well, but are aging and currently unable to meet the needs of a growing population and an increasingly diverse range of users . As a result, the City of Surrey engaged HCMA Architecture + Design in early 2019 to lead a design team to undertake a feasibility study to explore the planning and conceptual design of a new destination sports facility. The vision for the project is a revitalized sports facility that will enhance Bear Creek Park by creating a vibrant, athletic destination that is carefully integrated into the fabric of the park, maintains the much loved natural environment, and connects the unique range of existing park experiences.

he experience of working in a studio such as Harquitectes has given me the oportunity to improve several aspects of my career. I have worked on a project from the first sketches untill the construction phase. The project consists on a refurbishment of a town house near Barcelona. The structure of the building was afected, as well as the spacial conditions. We suggested to demolish all the interior partitions in order to get more space and light. The floor framing was also demolished, excepting the wooden beams. A new floor framing was proposed, made of prefabricated steel structure, positioned above the older. The first floor was completely new.
“I have worked on a project from the first sketches untill the construction phase.” I have accompained the entire process, from the first ideas, mockups, passing through the executive project and working on all the materials needed to build a project.

ince I was little I loved spending my free time drawing and painting. I have explored different types of art expressions such as drawing, watercolor and sculpture. I have recently participated in several editions of a Design Market in Barcelona named La Llotja del Disseny. There I presented and sold my watercolor works.
