A QUARTERLY PUBLICATION OF THE MAREK FAMILY OF COMPANIES

MAJOR PROJECTS ATLANTA Things continue to go well at the $22 million Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA) North Druid Hills Replacement Hospital we are building for Brasfield & Gorrie in Atlanta. We currently have crews working simultaneously on floors 4 -15 led by Superintendent Tony Smith; our Foremen team of Ismael Bravo, Juan Lopez, Jack Smith, Andres Diaz, Martin Martinez, and Thomas Archivy; our Finishing Foremen, Deny Carrillo and Ismael Grimaldo; our Safety Advisors, Brian Smith and Danny Williams; our Logistics leader, Don Hicke; Project Admin, Kristen Bankston and on-site Project Managers, Marty Shonkwiler and Brian Skinner. Luke Schlup, Brasfield & Gorrie’s Superintendent, and his leadership team have made it a pleasure to build Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta’s new one-billion-dollar facility. It takes a solid team to build a project this large and complicated. It also takes a strong General Contractor to manage over 80 subcontractors and nearly 2,000 workers on the job site. Luke told us recently, “The MSI/Marek team gets

it… there is more to construction than just labor, materials, and money. It takes teamwork and an understanding of developing relationships. Some key parts of relationships are showing care, open communication, and TRUST. Tony, Marty, and their team exemplify and live this out daily on the job site. It’s a recipe for long-lasting relationships and repeat business.” While we still have a long way to wrap up the CHOA NDH Replacement Hospital, we continue to work together to make it a success for both us and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. The architect on file is Earl Swensson Associates. AUSTIN Kyle Public Safety will be a 60,000 sf building that will house the Kyle Police Station and Forensics Department for the City of Kyle—designed to mimic a facility in Belfast, Ireland, with a grand architectural entrance. Construction will be an intense CFMF (exterior framing) job and will feature bulletproof sheetrock, sound masking walls, and acoustical ceilings. The project began in March of this year, with a projected end Page 1

date of January 2023. This project would not be possible without Eric Lumsden as Supervisor and Frank Cordova, Carlos Herrera, Jesus Perez, Joseph Gonzalez, and Bonifacio Granados assisting. Bartlett Cocke is General Contractor.

DALLAS Vidorra Apartments is a $1.5 million, 331,000 sf Dallas multi-family project containing 198 units and some metal framing on the first floor and drywall throughout. Every unit of this project was finished with a level 3, medium orangepeel texture. This project includes a beautiful lobby area with top-end finishes, and all public areas include a level 5 drywall finish. Jose Palacios is Project Manager, Jonathan Rodriquez is Foreman, and Asencion Barraza is Foreman. Provident General Contractors is the General Contractor, and W Partnership is the Architect.
