Every company is shaped by individuals whose character and commitment leave a lasting mark.
For us, Pat Trojanowsky was one of those people. His nearly six decades of service helped define who we are today. This is not our typical message, but it is important that we acknowledge a legacy that continues to influence MAREK in ways we can see and feel.
Ralph Marek saw a lot in a young Pat Trojanowsky. He saw a man who was not afraid of hard work, who had leadership qualities, and who would be a good fit for a growing company.
Pat graduated from St. Pius X High School and became the first of 27 St. Pius graduates who later joined MAREK. He and Pete Peters were also the first college graduates to bring their skills to the company.
Like all new hires in those early years, Pat learned the business from the ground up. He kept himself in good shape and handled the physical demands of the drywall trade. He mastered the residential side, and as the company transitioned to metal studs and screw guns, he helped expand our ability to take on larger jobs and support new customers.
As time went on, Pat was asked to take on a variety of tasks. One example was when the company foreclosed on an apartment project nearby on 34th Street called The Palisades. Pat and Cassie moved in as managers, and Pat could walk to work. Dad was relieved that they were able to turn a potential loss into an asset.
Of Pat’s early roles, the one I remember most was his time as our credit manager. As Pat grew older, he spent more time lifting weights and became noticeably stronger. He was a commanding presence when he went out to collect money owed to MAREK, and during that period our bad debt reserve was the lowest it had ever been.
Pat was a few years older than Bruce, Paul, and me. We looked up to him, and he treated us with more respect than we probably deserved as the boss’s sons. Some of my favorite memories are from the pool table in our company recreation room, where we learned to drink beer and play pool, lessons we had not learned at home. Maybe Pat tried to lead us off course once or twice, but he did it with the intention of teaching us about the world.
I could talk at length about Pat T. and his more than 60 years at MAREK. His leadership in building and managing our residential division was demanding work. He built a team that handled challenges and continued moving forward through different economic cycles. In construction, the economy is not always steady, and a person shows who they are by how they lead through those times. In both good years and difficult ones, Pat led his team with steadiness, respect, and integrity.
Many of us may remember how he handled tough-guy employee Iggie Revere at Christmas parties. What I appreciated most was his ongoing concern for the people he worked with. Many members of his office staff came from the field. They left building projects to help others build their careers by learning a trade. Pat treated everyone with respect and helped them take the next step in their work.
Chris and Charlie, I know you are proud of your dad and everything he accomplished. I hope you hold on to those memories and find comfort in knowing that he will always be with you. You may not feel his physical presence, but the influence he had on others will remain.

Christopher “Jacob” Forrester passed away on November 21, 2025, leaving a void felt by all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him. As our fabric panel field supervisor, Jacob led teams across the Southeast, installing panels that elevated every workspace they touched. In addition to elevating the spaces he worked in, he elevated the people he worked with. His attitude, sense of humor, and strong work ethic were just a few of his most admirable qualities.
Jacob approached his work with pride and heart. Colleagues often shared that any job felt lighter and any team felt stronger when Jacob was there. He had a gift for bringing out the best in others and creating an atmosphere where people felt valued.
Outside of work, Jacob loved his family, his friends, and fishing. He was the life of the party and the light in his family’s eyes. Nothing brought him more joy than time spent with the people he loved.
Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with his wife, Linda; his sons David Salazar, Jayden Garza, Cash Forrester, and Michael Cain Forrester; his daughters Maddison Garza and Jayden Forrester; and the rest of his family as they mourn the loss of someone gone too soon. We also pray for peace and healing for his friends and for the coworkers he considered family.
Jacob made a lasting impression on our company and on everyone fortunate enough to work alongside him.

Patrick “Pat” Trojanowsky passed away October 21, 2025. He devoted 60 years to the Marek family and MBC, leaving a lasting impact on both our organization and the drywall industry. His leadership helped establish MAREK’s residential branches in Austin and Dallas, and after 25 years of dedicated service, he was promoted to Division President. In this role, he guided drywall operations across Houston, Dallas, Austin and multiple states, shaping how our teams worked and collaborated for decades.
Pat’s influence extended far beyond MAREK. He founded a drywall trade organization in Dallas, modeled after the one created by the Marek family in Houston, and served as its President and board member for many years. His leadership helped elevate standards, strengthen partnerships and unify the drywall community across Texas.
He also played a central role in major industry and community efforts. Pat led a Houston drywall team to support President Jimmy Carter’s early Habitat for Humanity initiative, helping build 100 homes in one week. He later coordinated multiple companies to complete Houston’s first Extreme Home Makeover: Home Edition project, constructing a 4,500-square-foot home in just four days. And during the 1985 oil bust, he mobilized teams across five East Coast states to sustain drywall work until the Texas market rebounded.
Outside of his professional accomplishments, Pat cherished time with family and friends at Lake Travis in the Texas Hill Country. He was known for his generosity, loyalty and unwavering faith, traits that endeared him to all who knew him.
Pat is survived by his wife, Cassie; his children, Charlie (Kim) and Chris (Stephanie); his sister, Carole Pryor (Alan); and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren Dustin, Payton (Katlyn), Tristan, Lane (Savannah) and Kyle, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Though Pat is no longer with us, his influence lives on in the company he helped build, in the industry he helped shape and through his son Chris, who continues his legacy at MBC Houston.

MBS Atlanta stayed active and connected through two recent industry events. Team members participated in the ABC Georgia Golf Tournament, spending the day networking with industry partners and supporting the local construction community. The team also attended the CHOA Clinic AGC Award Celebration, recognizing the collaboration and craftmanship behind an award winning healthcare project.

Our holiday parties are a time to slow down and come together with the men and women who make MAREK a great place to work. They offer a chance to step away from the day-to-day pace, share a meal, shake hands, and say thank you.
These gatherings focus on appreciation and connection. They create space to spend time with coworkers, reflect on the year behind us, and enjoy the season together. Most of all, they recognize the people whose hard work, care for one another, and pride in their work make a difference every day.

If there’s one thing that stands out across all MAREK branches is the tenure of our employees. All branches happily celebrated employees who achieved career milestones at MAREK. Whether in the field or behind the scenes, each person brings unique talents that strengthen our culture and make MAREK a place where others want to build a career. We are proud to celebrate their milestones and grateful to work alongside them every day. *Houston/Shared Services 3-5 year employees were honored in our previous issue

The Ismaili community envisioned a place in Houston where people could gather, reflect, and learn. The Ismaili Center was designed as a civic and cultural space open to the broader community, with a prayer hall, theatre, library, classrooms, café, and an eleven-acre garden inspired by Texas ecosystems.
Turning that vision into a finished space required careful coordination and experienced partners. McCarthy Building Companies selected MAREK for its background in cultural and institutional projects and its ability to plan, prefabricate, and manage complex schedules. Working alongside McCarthy, architect DLR Group, and structural and façade engineer AKT II, MAREK delivered key building systems that support both performance and user experience across the five-story, fourteenthousand-square-meter Center.

The Ismaili Center is the first of its kind in the United States and one of only seven worldwide. Its design blends traditional and modern influences, including hand-carved stone panels from Portugal and strong connections between indoor and outdoor spaces. With many architectural elements working together, the project demanded steady communication and coordination across all teams.
One of the most detailed components was a custom Vogl ceiling system from Germany. Its triangular perforation pattern required

precise modeling, layout, procurement, and installation. This system was new to MAREK and required close attention at every stage. Additional challenges included multiple ceiling types, high-end finishes, elevated topping slabs on each floor, and shifting delivery schedules.
MAREK’s scope included prefabrication, exterior cold-formed metal framing, interior drywall partitions, ceilings and soffits, fireproofing, spray foam on Level 3, and insulation on Levels 2 through 5. The team relied on VDC for layout verification, regular coordination meetings, prefabricated jigs and PanelMax for consistency, and careful substrate preparation to meet finish requirements. When schedules shifted, sequencing was adjusted to keep work moving.
The partnership between McCarthy and MAREK played a key role throughout the project. Clear communication and field coordination allowed teams to address challenges as they arose.
McCarthy recognized the professionalism and consistency of MAREK’s field crews, which helped maintain progress despite the project’s complexity.
Key contributors included VDC Specialist Hector Gonzalez; Lead Field Supervisor Jaime Ramos ; Field Supervisors Sonny Giang and Edgar Martinez; Superintendent David McMillan; Drywall Project Manager Joel Marek; Insulation Project Manager Scott Wesley; and the carpenters whose craftsmanship supported the work.
Through planning, coordination, and steady execution, the teams delivered a Center that reflects the intent of the owner, architect, and engineers. The project demonstrates what is possible when experienced teams stay aligned and focused from start to finish

• There are 6 other Ismaili Centers around the world, this is the first in the United States.
• The center was designed for sustainability and enhanced energy performance, by encasing exposed steel with concrete for a 100-year life cycle and stone was used for the buildings exterior walls.
• The evian (verandas) are supported by forty-nine columns that are reminiscent to those used in Persepolis and seventeenth century palaces in Isfahan, Persia.
The Austin Airport is expanding to accommodate increased demand, and Vaughn Construction selected the MBS Austin team for work on the new parking garage. The scope includes supporting a detailed façade while meeting structural and pedestrian safety requirements.

It also features ten inbound and four outbound inspection lanes with hardened booths and canopies, along with secondary inspection areas, enforcement spaces, and staff parking.
The work will be led by Estimator and Project Manager Antonio Delgado, Project Assistant Roxanne Galeano, Field Supervisor Jose Luis Vasquez, and Superintendent Paul Ayres as construction moves forward.
MBC Dallas Multifamily is looking forward to working on Phase 2 of Mockkingbird Station. Work is scheduled to begin in Q4 2026, with completion expected in Q3 2027. The MBC Dallas team, led by Sales Cliff Marek and Project Manager Jose Palacios , will work closely with contractors and teammates to deliver the quality finish residents will enjoy for years to come.
Mockingbird Station Phase 2 adds a new sevenstory chapter to a busy corner of Dallas. The project includes 394 residential units, with five levels of nail-on drywall constructed above two levels of metal framing. This work gives the team the opportunity to help shape a growing community in a highly active urban setting.
In total, the scope includes approximately 1.9 million square feet of drywall. Laid end to end in four-foot sheets, that material would stretch more than 90 miles, roughly the distance from Dallas to Waco. It is a clear reminder of the scale of this project and the lasting impact our teams have on the communities they help build.

Each year, local branches select their top Craft Academy participants to compete company-wide in a hands-on build. This competition determines who will represent MAREK at the 2026 National Craft Competition, to be held in March 2026, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Craft Academy competitors are part of MAREK’s structured on-the-job training (OJT) program. Participants are selected by Head Coaches based on the following criteria:
• Are close to achieving Mechanic Level
• Meet their skills and production goals
• Have a strong safety and employment record
• Have typically been with MAREK for 1 1/2 - 2 years
• Have taken the initiative to invest time in construction math, layout, and blueprint courses.

This year, judging included outside industry professionals. Guest judges were Bruce Worcester of DPR Construction, and William Lastinger of Benchmark Construction. Jarrell Jackson of Associated Builders and Contractors’ national office also attended. Competitors were evaluated on build accuracy, ability to read blueprints and follow instructions, safety practices, and a 100-question written exam.
Behind each competitor is a network of coaches, instructors, field supervisors, coworkers, and family members who have supported their development. Their time and effort help ensure these craft professionals are prepared to take on new challenges and continue building their careers. That support builds confidence, sharpens skills, and reminds each competitor that they are never learning or growing alone. Together, this shared commitment strengthens the individual and the future of the craft itself. “Each competitor showcased their dedication, each of them continue to set the standard for quality work.” - Craft Training Superintendent Ricardo Menchaca.

For the past four years, our Craft Talent Development team has partnered with Marietta High School to introduce students to the construction industry through hands-on learning and real-world experience. Each project spans approximately three months and working with groups of about 15 students continues to be both engaging and rewarding.
Several students recently had the opportunity to compete in SkillsUSA, where high school students showcase their abilities across a variety of skilled trades. To further inspire future participation, three of our current trainees were able to attend the event and see the competition firsthand.
Beyond the classroom, our team remains actively involved in workforce outreach initiatives. We recently participated in the Construction Ready Luncheon at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, engaging with industry partners and future talent to promote careers in construction. Additionally, we are proud to support and participate in the Brasfield & Gorrie Skilled Carpentry Training Program, working alongside our partner to help develop the next generation of skilled carpenters.
We are incredibly proud of all our trainees, with special recognition to Vanessa Lopez. In just one year, Vanessa has progressed from a drywall helper to learning layout under our tenured Layout Supervisor Rick Jecker. Her focus, adaptability, and willingness to take on new challenges exemplify the success of the program.
The Craft Talent Development team remains committed to developing skilled, motivated professionals for MAREK. We look forward to 2026 and are excited about the continued growth of our Workforce Development Program and the new trainees who will be joining us.

The Austin team recently attended Careers in Construction Day, an annual event hosted by ABC Central Texas. This event is designed to introduce high school students to the wide range of opportunities in the construction industry through hands-on activities and interactive demonstrations that showcase different career paths available to them.
Our team, including Priscilla Garcia, Johnathon Yglecias, Cody Hoffman, Joe Gonzales, Suzy Suarez, Brandon Hernandez, and Berenice Mondragon, connected with more than 700 students from high schools across Central Texas. Students rotated through interactive stations, learned about different construction career paths, and had the opportunity to ask questions and hear firsthand what a career in construction can look like.
Careers in Construction Day supports ABC Central Texas’ workforce development efforts by helping students better understand the variety of roles available in the industry and the training paths that can lead to long-term careers. Events like this allow MAREK teams to engage early with students who may be considering construction as a future profession.

For many students, figuring out what comes after high school can feel unclear. On October 29, we partnered with the Construction Industry Education Foundation, Houston Chapter, to help bring clarity through Trades Day 2025. With more than 1,000 students in attendance, the event gave students a chance to explore what a career in construction could look like.
Trades Day put students in hands-on situations where they could see, touch, and try the skills used in construction, design, engineering, and the skilled trades. Instead of guessing what these careers involve, students learned directly from industry professionals, asked questions, and connected their interests to real job opportunities.
Throughout the day, students practiced using tools, learned how work gets done safely, and saw how different roles come together on a jobsite. Whether they planned to enter the workforce, attend a trade program, or continue their education, students left with a better understanding of their options and next steps.
The event was supported by team members who helped guide students and keep activities moving, including Jessica Colindrez, Aurelio Flores, Yeimy Hernandez, Ines Garcia, Allan Murillo, Jennyris Fuentes, Armando Garibay, and Lisandro Merino
Their time and involvement helped ensure students had a productive and engaging experience and left Trades Day with a clearer picture of how their skills could lead to a career in construction.
