Representatives from Standard Bearers Academy (SBA) addressed curious locals on the proposed development of an international boarding school for boys, at Mareeba on Saturday, November 22.

Having already purchased the 96 acre property on Tinaroo Creek Road, Brenton Gibbs (representing SBA Holdings), outlined what was being proposed; including the amenities, academic, sporting, agricultural and cultural makeup of the school.

Scott Peabody from Arqus Design (the architects employed for the overall design/layout of the school), was on hand to inform the public on the various stages of the development, including: classrooms, student accommodation,administration facilities,equestrian stables, performing arts complex, Olympic size swimming pool, sporting fields, indoor multi-use sports complex, 400 meter athletics track, teachers training college/leadership academy, orchard farm precinct, agricultural precinct and staff residences.

The main concern raised by locals was the cultural background of the school and its ties with Islam.

Local resident Dan Vogler and many others expressed their concern that the infusion of Islam’s world view is opposed in our type of democracy and the Australian way of life. Some locals believe that the school is a smoke screen to ’infiltrate’ (a word used by Mr. Vogler) our society and bring an era we do not want.

SBA Holdings Educational Adviser Dylan Chown said, “We are here to put forward a proposal for an independently private 1200 student boarding academy, similar to other independent private schools in Australia.

“If the word ‘catholic’ was involved in its name, no one would be asking these questions.”

Food safari set to excite

By Justin Fris TABLELANDS food lovers are set for an exciting treat on November 29, with the inaugural ‘Tropical Food Safari’ set to tempt tastebuds.

Held at the Mareeba Heritage Centre (MHC) between 9-10am, the event will welcome a wide range of attendees; from local business owners to residents.

MHC spokeswoman Louise Mabbutt also spoke with The Express in regard to a special mentorship with Mission Beach Business and Tourism (MBBT).

“Mission Beach successfully showcased their food safari last month and have provided a significant amount of support toward the heritage centre,” she said. “They have supported us through

workshop design, supplied equipment for us, along with being great mentors for us.”

Being scheduled on a market day, Ms Mabbutt believed crowds would enjoy the culmination of Mareeba’s local produce.

“We have picked a Market Day to do our first Food Safari Presentation,with a gold coin donation being much appreciated,” she said.

“We anticipate many of our attendees will be locals at this time of year, with hopefully a few overseas and interstate visitors.”

MHC organisers were convinced that if Saturday’s event attracted large numbers, the geographical sphere of attendees could swell next year.

Kids help others have a merrier Christmas this year

By Justin Fris AS we approach the festive season, you will notice many candy canes starting to fill the shelves of your local supermarket.

They are a uniform success with children; however one local school in Mareeba decided to take this passion and transfer it in a way to help those who have fallen on hard times.

Following on from the hard work put in by Pastor Jeff Xhafer (of Living Waters Church) a few months ago, St Thomas’s Parish School is also doing their bit through a unique collection service.

The program which is dubbed ‘Candy Canes for Cans’, will see food collection items donated to St Vincent De Paul, so families in need can have a merrier Christmas.

Determined to instil positive habits and a sense of social awareness, St Thomas’s students are being encouraged to bring in

Pre-Prep students Chloe Potter, Danny Cadorin, Bonnie Milgate and Ayden Brischetto with some of the CCFC donations ready for needy families food items for those less fortunate; rather than the traditional candy canes at ‘little lunch’.

The Express stopped by the school last Friday and caught up with school administration personnel, who were pleased that their students had responded well to the campaign.

Community voices concern at meeting FROM PAGE 1 “The school will be English speaking, with both male and female teachers and the academy will be conforming to the Australian and Queensland learning curriculum.

“We will have some funding from government as do all private schools, but the majority of the funding will be private and we will be accepting boys from all religious denominations.” said Mr Chown.

Patrol Group Inspector Rolf Straatemeier raised concern regarding what happens to the boys on weekends and on holidays and how much more work will be placed on the police force.

The discussion then spiraled somewhat out of control, with some locals strongly criticising the Islamic backing of the school.

Others asked for the money to be spent on upgrading existing schools, while some did not want the school to be built at all.

When discussion about the workings of Islam began, locals lost interest and began filtering out.

Mareeba Shire Council will be presented with a proposal for the project before Christmas this year, with a second meeting to engage the public held in February 2015.

Elders upset with damage to cemetery Carl Portella

Last Friday, November 21, The Express Newspaper attended a meeting with community elders and representatives of the Kuranda/ Mareeba Social Justice Group, to discuss the circumstances and possible outcomes behind the desecration of graves at the Mareeba Cemetery.

During the meeting, concerns were raised as to why the cultural background of youngsters involved was identified; The Express regrets identifying them in this manner.

Aboriginal Elders of the community are aware of the problems that events such as this cause to people who have loved ones in the cemetery, including their own loved ones who’s graves were damaged.

Elders Merv Riley and Phyllis Meldrum said, “We are sorry for what these young people have done to the graves at the cemetery

and we will endeavour to show the community that we do care about what happened. “On Sunday, members of our men’s group and others will take a working bee, to clean the cemetery of the damage that was caused, if it hasn’t already been done.”

Rhonda Dooley from the Kuranda/Mareeba Social Justice Group said, “Nothing can be done to children as young as five and up to twelve years of age, according to the justice system and that is across the board, no matter who they are, they are not legally responsible.

“The public needs to know about the service we offer when it comes to this age group. “We are available all the time when youths get into trouble or being a nuisance; please call us and we will see to the matter and put into place the procedure which will be of benefit to all concerned.”

Atherton’s ladies headline formal ATHERTON’s senior girls stole the show last Thursday night, looking simply elegant as they took part in the Atherton State High School formal.

Arrivals began from 5pm, with The Express in attendance to celebrate a wonderful achievement for all of Atherton’s class of ’14.

Mareeba High’s night of nights MAREEBA State High School seniors celebrated one of the most famed nights on the year 12 calendar, with their formal taking top billing last Friday night at the Mareeba International Club.

Both entrances and vehicles were eye catching, as keen family and friends clambered for a good spot to capture every magic moment.

The Express caught up with many couples on their way into the formal and smiles were a common denominator for all.

TRC councillors still at war

By Justin Fris FORMER boxing heavyweight world champion ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson didn’t attend last Thursday’s Tablelands Regional Council (TRC) meeting in Atherton; but the sheer level of verbal blows dished out were equal to when he graced the ring.

Atherton ratepayers were left aghast in and outside the meeting; as no opinion or heated debate was left in any respective tank.

The debate causing all the commotion was centred on the upcoming community cabinet meeting in Mareeba; in regard to who would officially represent the TRC and how the manner only surfaced during the general business forum.

TRC Mayor Rosa Lee Long advised the need for Council to meet with certain ministers during

the forum; in regard to agricultural expansion and discussion on greater health services for Atherton.

Mayor Lee Long said she had been advised about the narrow deadline for applications; and that if others had failed to submit on time, that was their issue.

However the failure to lodge the deputation arrangement as an agenda item during the meeting, incensed Cnr Marjorie Pagani.

Cnr Pagani then took centre stage and quizzed Mayor Lee Long in greater deal about how she had formulated her application deputation list (Cnr Hodge, Mayor Lee Long and Cnr Stocker) for meetings with Newman government ministers.

“You don’t have the authority to go to this

forum and represent Council without us at least having a vote,” she said.

Outside, outraged local ratepayers queried the legality of putting a list together and trying to put it through without voting through a public agenda item.

What ensued in the following minutes bordered on complete anarchy; with the Mayor and councillors peppering each other like sergeants from a lonely hearts club band.

Inside and clearly not amused by concerns raised by Cnr’s Shaaron Linwood and Pagani, Mayor Lee Long voiced her disdain in no uncertain terms; culminating in a stinging appraisal of Cnr Pagani.

TWO students at St Thomas’s Parish School in Mareeba received distinctions in the ICAS Mathematics Competition.

Angus Ford and Nicholas Fogale stood head and shoulders above others, but were reflective on what the result meant to them.

Fogale, an accomplished chess player, said his chess actually played a role in helping him focus more on mathematical problems.

“Chess gets my brain going and often if I do maths straight after, my brain is already focussed on intense thought,” he said.

St Thomas’s Principal Rita Petersen said the school prided itself on ‘differentiation’; which gave students an opportunity to push themselves further.

“There are several online programs that our students can register with and administration are alerted on their achievement levels,” she said. “Alternatively, Angus and Nic have the chance to complete additional worksheets if they need an extra challenge.”

Angus spoke about how he ‘loved the challenge’ of mathematics and regularly studied material a year level above his own.

“I’m only in year four, but I do maths work from a year five textbook,” he said. “I also do the same for spelling.”

Both the boys were keen to be involved in the competition next year and further pursue their love for learning.

In a day and age where some children study the Top 40 chart more intently then their homework, it was a pleasure to see such positive study habits receive their due recognition.

Cenotaph and flag moved in Mt Molloy Mt Molloy locals will soon see their cenotaph and flag pole removed from the centre of the main street, with a new one erected between the Memorial Hall and the CWA Hall.

Councillor Allan Pedersen moved a motion at the recent Mareeba Shire Council meeting in Irvinebank, at the request of the Mt Molloy RSL sub branch.

The Cenotaph’s current position is too dangerous and noisy at both Anzac Day celebrations and Remembrance Day ceremonies.

Order was eventually restored in the meeting, with parties agreeing that Cnr Linwood could join Cnr Stocker and Mayor Lee Long at the community cabinet. Other items passed through with ease; although ratepayers were still seen shaking their heads as they left the meeting around 11.30am.

Points would clearly be deducted from both corners, if the matter was scored. The next TRC meeting will be held on December 4th.

I am writing in regards to the vandalism recently committed by a group of young children at the Mareeba Cemetery.

After seeing the appalling and disgusting vandalism with our own eyes yesterday committed by seven young children aged 5 to 11 years, I am very glad they’ve been caught red-handed by councillors and the Mayor when they came back to reoffend. (Thankfully my father-in-law’s grave wasn’t one that was hit.)

However, those families who have had their loved ones’ flowers ripped out, vases and other items smashed, pots overturned and gravel and sand strewn and rocks thrown at them – they are going to be very upset when they find out and see for themselves what has happened. This was not just 10-20 graves that have been affected,

there were many more and that was just in the one section we were in.

When reading that these offenders are now attending “behavioural counselling” and the oldest child of 11 has been “cautioned/warned” it makes me question what lesson they’ll learn from this and the chances that they’ll do this again without remorse? They had the energy to do this for whatever reason (please, don’t give me the “bored reason”!) and it’s happened several times now at the Mareeba cemetery.

Obviously they’ve been unsupervised by irresponsible parents/ guardians who also should be held accountable for these acts as they’re allowing these young ones to become lawless individuals in our community.

They’re committing child abuse by bringing these children into the world

and neglecting to teach even basic things, especially respect and care for others.

I’d like to see these children now use their energy to clean up the disgraceful mess – supervised by their parents/guardians and restitution made to those families affected. I can guess who is footing the bill for the “counselling” and for the council to clean up the mess, especially of those graves that no longer have family or friends in the area to tend to them. Going to phone council and write a few more letters as these children hopefully will learn from this experience and grow up as responsible people in our community.

Article had a shot at Indigenous I have to question Carl Portella’s sense of judgment in nominating “ a group of Indigenous youths” (The Express, Nov. 19, 2014, p.3) who were caught vandalizing graves at the Mareeba cemetery.

As the Managing Editor of a newspaper, he would be aware that this practice is rarely followed by the great majority of papers around the nation. Would he have nominated youths had they been Islamic, Armenian, Christian, Italian or Serbian? Would he have invited the likely repercussions from strong voices in the community?

I too have family members interred at the same cemetery and agree that the senseless and destructive acts cannot go unpunished. However, I could not help but feel that the article “had a shot” at the Indigenous community, insofar as the need for mutual respect between it and the rest of the community is concerned.

Care must be taken to not castigate a whole sector of any community. The frustration of the writer is quite obvi-

ous, and the police have their hands tied when a “good kick in the backside” that is disallowed now-a-days has to be replaced by counselling.

Counselling rarely works on kids who roam the streets by the very nature of the families that do not take care to monitor what their kids are up to, whether they are Indigenous or not.

Given that the perpetrators were Indigenous, it is fair enough to call for the assistance of community leaders and elders (I assume this means Indigenous people) to help in improving matters, but the nomination of a specific ethnic/cultural group in the fist place in and open forum such as this paper could be sailing close to discriminatory action. As such, the likelihood of the sought co-operation might be compromised.

The LAND Bulls top $6000 at Tropical Northern sale

VENDORS were ultimately left frustrated after the Tropical Northern Brahman bull sale last Friday at the Mareeba Saleyards.

Dry conditions on the land translated into a lack of competitiveness in the ring, with only 26 bulls of the 69 catalogue sold.

Bedrock reserve prices were set at $2000 for bulls and $1500 for heifers; although some incurred higher reserves as per discretion of the vendor. Overall, the sale grossed $70,550 for the day, with an average of $2713 per lot sold.

Surprisingly, the big money didn’t come for the Brahman component of the sale, with the Droughmaster, Charbray and Shorthorn bulls getting the most attention.

It took until the latter lots before agents finally got to see some money rain down on some quality Droughtmaster bulls.

Matthew and Anne Slaughter (of ‘Springsure’ stud) walked away the big winners of the day, with their Charbray bull ‘Eskwood Darby’ topping the sale with a $6000 price tag, bought by Wayne and Karen Austin.

The Austin’s had the hot hand all day, after earlier paying $4000 for one of Kevin and Margaret Moloney’s ‘Mt Coolan’ Brahman selections.

The sale began horribly, with only five bulls sold out of the first 26 lots. The superlative smells wafting from the Country Women’s Association canteen became too much of a temptation for some, who made a beeline for a steak sandwich.

Agents overall had mix results, with all three having disproportionate numbers offered within the catalogue. Elders sold the most number of bulls (15), but also had the greatest number of lots within the sale.

After a brutal beginning, the final lot of their catalogue turned out to be the top price of the sale. Elders grossed $38,500 overall, with an average of $2590.

Landmark tied for the overall second highest price of the sale ($4000) and had some quality Brahman and Shorthorn bulls under their jurisdiction.

Unfortunately, the buyers didn’t want to play ball and this impacted on ‘passed in’ figures. Landmark grossed $17,500 overall for their six bulls sold, averaging $2916.

Although having the smallest allocation on the catalogue, Qld Rural held their own with a quality selection of Brahmans, which were sought after by the packed grandstands. They grossed $14,200 overall (off five bulls) and averaged $2840.

A special mention must go to Matthew and Anne Slaughter, who donated the proceeds of one of their bulls ($2000, bought by Alan and Karen Austin) to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Mossman Mill crushed 41,256 tonnes of cane at an average CCS of 14.15 for Week 27 of the 2014 crushing season.

A loose slipping bagasse belt was the major contributor of down time for the week, a clean of the evaporators will be conducted this week.

The factory has now processed 917,095 tonnes of cane at an average CCS of 13.23 for the season - the largest crop crushed at Mossman Mill in 12 years. The crop is cutting slightly below estimate, with 98% actual to estimate blocks completed.

THE HUNGER GAMES MOCKINGJAY PT 1 Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) finds herself in District 13 after she literally shatters the games forever. Under the leadership of President Coin (Julianne Moore) and the advice of her trusted friends, Katniss spreads her wings as she fights to save Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) and a nation moved by her courage.

Review by Louise Keller: Capitalising on the Jennifer Lawrence factor, Part 1 of the final Hunger Games trilogy will please the fans, although there is too much padding around the key thrilling sequence; the film would have been more complete had the two parts of the split finale been merged. Economics no doubt drove the filmmakers in their decision to stretch things out, but like Twilight and Harry Potter, there is a limit to what dramatic impact can be achieved. To the screenwriters' credit, in their adaptation of Suzanne Collins' novel, they have succeeded by leave audiences with a tantalising cliffhanger ending, although it is a bit of a tease, when there is a long wait before Part 2 hits the screens.

After the colour and drama of the first two films, the first half hour of this third is just plain dull as it slowly establishes the new reality of District 13, where Katniss (Lawrence) has been brought following the events of 'Catching Fire'. The setting is drab and grey as we become involved in the movement for change led by the forceful President Coin (Julianne Moore with bad hair) and masterminded by Philip Seymour Hoffman's wonderfully named and well executed Plutarch Heavensbee. Hoffman has always been such a charismatic force on-screen.

Things hot up when Katniss agrees to become the face of the cause - or the Mockingjay, 'the best dressed rebel in history' - as she fronts a high profile propaganda campaign for the fight against the Capitol.

Plot elements include Katniss' loyalty and stated affection for Peeta (Josh Hutcherson), her relationship with the handsome Gale (Liam Hemsworth) who is still dwelling on their first kiss and her ongoing concern for her young sister Primrose (Willow Shields). Donald Sutherland as the Capitol's totalitarian President Snow continues to be formidable in the role as he instills fear in the residents of the Panem districts, and counters Lawrence's heroic

portrayal beautifully. The scene when Snow orders the execution of rebels is chilling and is a tragic reflection of the state of the world today.

With Peeta being used as propaganda for the Capitol and Katniss representing the rebels, there is an interesting juxtaposition of conflicting interests.

The covert rescue mission is the film's highlight: filled with tension and anticipation and exacerbated by the fact that Katniss and the other members of the resistance are watching events as they take place on large video screens. 'It's the things we love most that destroy us,' says President Snow, which is an interesting note on which to ponder as Part 1 comes to a dramatic conclusion.

It's the ultimate buddy cop movie except for one thing: they're not cops. When two struggling pals dress as police officers for a costume party, they become neighbourhood sensations. Gladiators aim for redemption

ST Stephen’s College will further cement their grounding in local sporting circles, with a series of new sporting facilities set to open for semester one, 2015.

These will include: 3 extra cricket nets, 3 half-court basketball courts, along with 400m2 handball court.

St Stephen’s Business Manager Hadyn Flynn said the facilities will provide an excellent opportunity for the students.

“It’s important for young students to be active and live a healthy lifestyle,” he said. “We encourage this at St Stephen’s, by providing state of the art facilities for our

students to utilise.”

Mr Flynn said it was important for the college to build positive community relationships; and highlighted the success of the Mareeba Junior Cricket Club training in the school’s original cricket nets after school.

St Stephen’s received good support from local businesses and tradespeople, with Mr Flynn further outlining the significance of the new facilities.

“It should be a viable investment and I’m hoping they’ll be opening for the day one of the new school year,” he said. The new precinct will add further excitement to sport lovers in Mareeba, with opportunities for St Stephen’s to widen their sporting scope in 2015.

MAREEBA rugby league will have a new leader in 2015, with David Grainer recently announced as Captain/ Coach of the Mareeba Gladiators.

This year will not live long in the memory for local league lovers, with their Gladiators finishing second bottom with a paltry six wins.

With sweeping changes come fresh optimism, and Grainer has already made inroads into building good spirit with his players.

“We’re already getting into our preseason training,” he said. “I think if we get enough of the boys into training early and get the miles in, it will help us next season.”

Many of the squad are also training ahead of the upcoming indigenous rugby

league carnival on Saturday at Davies Park. Grainer added talent will be spread across all grades on the day.

“We’ll be having our U/12 and U/13 sides playing in the carnival as well,” he said. “With most grades playing, it will give an opportunity for younger fellas to play up a grade and get some extra experience.”

Grainer recently led Mareeba’s indigenous side to the ‘Yarrabah Gudanji’ rugby league carnival in Cairns.

They had several sponsors who helped them out and the Gladiators would like to publically acknowledge their support.

“HEH civil constructions, Dennis Howe, Lecker Farming and the Ewamian Aboriginal Co-Op all gave good support; along with the Peninsula Hotel, where we had some team functions,” Grainer said.

MAREEBA BASKETBALL INC GRAND FINALS The Mareeba Summer Season basketball Grand Finals in all Senior and Junior grades will be decided this coming Thursday and Friday. Certainly all Grand Finals appear likely to develop into close contests so supporters will witness a great display to tense and exciting basketball over both days.

Red Devils and Stingrays clash for the Senior Men Championship Title on Thursday night. A clash of two excellent Mens sides who have a number of players in their respective line-ups capable of leading team to victory. No doubt a Grand Final where the lead could change on several occasions.

Also on Thursday sees the Senior Ladies Championship decider when the experienced Gummaz combination are opposed to the young High School Divas side. An interesting encounter in which Gummaz will prove hard to defeat. Still High School Divas do have the talent to fully test Gummaz. Certainly the team leading going into the last quarter may well take out the Title.

The Under 16’s Juniors play their Grand Finals on Thursday afternoon. Scorpians and Panters have the Division II decider all to themselves. These two evenly matched sides might well provide a real cliff hanger.

While the tremendous undefeated performance

by Phoenix this season will be fully tested by Timberwolves for the Division I Championship title. Although a Grand Final win by Phoenix will be a just reward for their very consistent good form throughout the season.

Tyson Tatti has been outstanding for Phoenix and a definite match winner. However he must avoid his foul problems in recent matches, otherwise Timberwolves will prove more than a handful.

Keenly contested Under 12’s and Under 14’s Junior Grand finals should be a feature of Friday’s Championship deciders. Taipans qualified for the Under 12’s Final after a Semi-Final win over Dragons and will now oppose Magpies to decide top honours for the season. The youngsters in these sides are so evenly matched, that the winner is indeed hard to forecast.

Under 14’s Juniors Wolves and Tigers will bring down the curtain to the 2014 Mareeba Basketball year. Certainly a thriller is likely to eventuate as each team endeavours to conclude the season on

EXPRESS sPORT Athletes ‘soldier on’ in inaugural Yungaburra Triathlon event

STIFLING heat greeted athletes, officials and spectators on Saturday’s component of the Yungaburra Triathlon.

Shade was at a premium for families of all ages; who converged on the Avenue of Honour from early midmorning.

This failed to deter officials, who were enthusiastic from the outset; along with paying appropriate respect to local culture, religion and those who had served our country with distinction.

Over 550 registrations were recorded for the inaugural weekend-long event, which was a fantastic result, as hundreds of volunteers had put in copious amounts of time.

Athletes were briefed by the foreshore around 1.45pm ahead of their events; eager faces up for a challenge were countered by some corporate teams who appeared anxious ahead of their upcoming task.

Once the races concluded for the day, ‘Ruff Diamondz’ wowed the crowd who continued to kick on in the evening, along with country music legend Lee Kernaghan stopping by to play a few songs.

It goes without saying that the biggest winners of the day were representatives of ‘Soldier On’, who helped coordinate a quality event which acknowledged (primarily) former men and women who have served our country with pure class. The Express would like to congratulate all who took part over the weekend; bring on 2015.

OVERRIDING sadness engulfed the MacoTrac on November 15 and 16, as the FNQMSC waved the chequered flag for the final sprint meet at the venue.

Phil Pyke ultimately had too much gas for his rivals, holding off Cody Satchwell and Ben Littlewell. 28 regular drivers took part in the event, along with a few novices who tried their hand.

Drivers gave nothing short of their best as always and there were also plenty

of special events who attended the meet.

Local councillors John Schilling and Terry James took their places in the stands, along with various government officials.

Those keen for a further need for speed will need to head to Herberton on November 29 and 30 for a two day Khanacross event. This meeting will not have any championship points on the line, therefore everyone is welcome to come down and have a run. Weather conditions will be ideal, and should be reflected in the times.

TRINITY Beach compounded Mareeba’s poor away form, dismantling the visitors for 120 (45 overs) at the halfway point of their two day fixture.

Clearly stung by their lacklustre batting effort, the Bandits rallied to have the hosts at 2/22 at the close of play.

On a spinning top of a deck, the visitors too often made poor decisions at the crease; and needed two promising youngsters to help them post a total over 100.

could hold his head high with a serviceable knock of 38, with Brett Girganti also adding 22.

Trinity Beach’s chief destroyer was Peter Whitehead who took 4/23 off 40 overs. It should be noted his first five overs were all maidens; along with two wickets as due reward.

Bandits Captain Brendan Payne threw the ball to Adam Roy and Brett Brewer in a bid to secure quick wickets.

Only time will tell if the visitors can dig themselves out of this big hole and continue their impressive run of form.

SPRINGMOUNT Raceway is ideally set for its first drag race meeting in mid-2015, according to Springmount Raceway Director Evan Yelavich.

Construction works will take place over the coming months, which will provide a whole new avenue for locals to get their need for speed.

And in a major coup for the Springmount Raceway team, HP Custom Racing has signed up as one of the major sponsors.

“The HP guys have been really enthusiastic about getting on board,” Yelavich said. “Shane Srhoj doesn’t do anything by halves and has brought some quality corporate ideas to the table.”

launch a fortnight ago and spent time with both Srhoj and John ‘Muddy’ Wilson, who at the forefront of the team’s operations.

The duo were excited about the partnership and believed the raceway would increase employment opportunities and tourism within the region.

These beliefs were shared by Yelavich, who also explained on how meetings would commence initially. “We will initially begin with day meetings, although the exact schedule hasn’t been tabled yet,” he said. “Over time we would probably look at installing lights and also assess our noise mitigation options.”
