Growers seal Mill deal AFTER 28 tireless months Far Northern Milling officially own the Mossman Mill after the grower owned group secured ownership on Friday. “As of late last Friday afternoon, I am extremely excited to announce that the group of growers from Mossman and Tablelands who has supported my Board and I over the last 28 months, now own Mossman Mill,” said Far Northern Milling Chairperson Maryann Salvetti. There has been extensive support for the Mossman Mill acquisition, with Douglas Shire Council and the Federal and State Governments providing financial assistance to save the Mill from certain closure.

“I would like to acknowledge the contributions from Douglas Shire Council and the Federal and State Governments. They have supported our business case to transition the mill from an exporter of sugar onto the world market to a Bio Precinct which will add significant value to the feedstock from the mill and ultimately provide consistently higher returns to both the growers and the Mill,” Mrs Salvetti said. With the Mill secured the focus for the Far Northern Milling team going forward will be to secure the value adding projects which will be built on the Bio Precinct land adjacent the Mill. “We will be working quickly to assemble a project team to lead

our value adding process. This team will scrutinise the technology, marketing and offtake agreement potential, before providing recommendations to the Board on the Bio Precinct Projects that we will take to final investment decision,” Mrs Salvetti said. The acquisition of the Mossman Mill has created an opportunity for growers to take control of their own destiny and will ensure the continued prosperity of the winder Mossman community. “As growers we are extremely excited at the prospect of producing high value products which will see us become price makers instead of price takers”, Mrs Salvetti said. “We are also excited for the

Mossman community to be able to share in the prosperity through job creation and business growth. This has been a win-win for every stakeholder connected with Mossman Mill and the community as a whole.” The Far Northern Milling board has attributed the successful Mill acquisition to endless hours of hard work by a tightknit team who never gave up on achieving their end goal thanks to the ongoing support of the growers and wider Mossman community. “My team and I would like to thank the growers and Mill employees for their unwavering support throughout this long and at times uncertain process,” Mrs Salvetti said.

“We would also like to make special mention to Warren Entsch and his dedicated team, Julia Leu, Mark Stoermer and their team at Douglas Shire Council, Cynthia Lui, our consultants Shane O'Kane and Brent Wall, our fantastic Legal team in Peter, Tammy, Prathna and Dylan from O'Connor Law and our accounting team at Crowe Horwath / Findex.” “A very special thankyou to Evelyn Matthews, Manager of Mossman Canegrowers for assisting Far Northern Milling throughout the process, and I would like to also acknowledge the relentless work and dedication of Tableland Canegrowers Manager Bronwyn Dwyer, as without her we would not have been able to achieve this

outcome.” The sale of the Mossman Mill to the growers has paved the way for Mackay Sugar and the Mackay region growers to finalise their recapitalisation process with German company Nordzucker. “The Board and I would like to thank Mackay Sugar for the manner in which they handled the Mossman Mill transaction and wishes the Company and Mackay growers all the best in finalising their recapitalisation with Nordzucker,” Mrs Salvetti said. “We hope that they come to find the stability and prosperity that we a striving to afford our mill area and wider community.”
