Clothes for a special occasion

A NEW round of Regional Arts Development Funding (RADF) is now open with Tablelanders encouraged to apply.

“Round 24 is now open to individuals, groups and organisations to apply for up to $5000 for a project,” said Tablelands Regional Council Mayor Joe Paronella.

“The funding supports a wide range of arts and cultural projects, including heritage and cultural tourism, enabling professional and emerging artists and arts practitioners living in our region to receive support for a wide range of arts and cultural projects.

“It’s a very successful program that has opened up a wide range of opportunities to all aspects of our community,” said Mayor Paronella.

Division 1 Councillor and Chair of the RADF Committee Kate Eden said, “We’d really like to hear from Indigenous artists, and community members and groups who haven’t applied for RADF funding before.

“Details about the grant and application information are available on our website and at customer service centres.

“You need to chat to our Regional Arts Officer before you start your application and then ensure your application is received by April 3, 2020. “Remember we also have a small grant program for training and professional development opportunities, or smallscale community projects up to $1000.

“Applications for the small grant program are accepted at any time,” said Councillor Eden. The Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Tablelands Regional Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.

FIFTEEN new apprentices, including five local boys, have begun their careers with Ergon Energy at their training facilities in Cairns.

Jett Fittock, Darcy Gillespie and Michael Hooper from the Tablelands have all begun their initial training in Cairns as a part of a recruiting drive where Ergon and Energex hired 102 new apprentices across Queensland.

Daniel Davidson from Mossman and Brendan Day from Georgetown were also hired and will be returning to their home depots after training in Cairns is finished.

27 women across the state have also begun apprenticeships with Ergon and Energex this year.

Regional Field Manager Chris Hooper said it was great to see more female apprentices joining a male-dominated industry.

“Ergon offers excellent training and there are so many different things you can do in your career,” he said

“One of the most rewarding things you can do is help restore the power to a community after a natural disaster.”
