For the second time in a month the Mareeba community is rallying behind their own, with both Hort St Café and

Floral Magic burnt to the ground during the incident. The fire comes nearly a month after a separate fire, thought to be deliberately lit, destroyed the Performance Motors workshop on June 29. “Neil and I would like to thank everyone for your calls and messages

regarding our buildings and business with the Hort St fire,” café owner Debbie Sweedman wrote in an online statement. Floral Magic also posted a statement online saying “on behalf of Renee and Taylor they would like to extend their thanks to the emergency services

personnel that attended the fire on Hort St,” the statement said. “As the smoke clears this morning it’s evident there isn’t anything left to salvage. “As you could imagine the Hughes family has received a devastating blow both financially and personally.” ■ MORE PAGE 3
