The Sustainable Development Goals Report 2026 presents how far we have come towards reaching the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). With just four years until the SDGs target date, the gap between ambition and achievement has never been more stark – or more consequential. This report candidly assesses our progress and the ground we have left to cover. The core promise of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development to leave no one behind remains within reach but only if we act decisively and immediately.

The United Nations World Water Development Report 2026 Water for All People: Equal Rights and Opportunities

United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Gender inequalities continue to undermine global water security, disproportionately affecting women and girls. While they are often responsible for collecting and managing household water, they remain underrepresented in water governance, leadership and technical roles. The United Nations World Water Development Report 2026: Water for All People – Equal Rights and Opportunities highlights how unequal access to water and sanitation services impacts health, education, livelihoods and safety. Today, 2.1 billion people still lack safely managed drinking water, and women and girls spend an estimated 250 million hours every day collecting water. The report examines how climate change, water scarcity and disasters are intensifying these inequalities and calls for stronger action to ensure equal rights, participation and opportunities in water management. By promoting inclusive water governance, genderresponsive policies and improved data, the report outlines practical steps to close gender gaps and advance progress towards sustainable water management and the Sustainable Development Goals. World Cities Report 2026

The Global Housing Crisis: Pathways to Action

United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT)

Coming Soon

The world is facing an unprecedented housing crisis. Rising unaffordability, the expansion of informal settlements, climate-related risks, displacement and declining neighbourhood liveability are converging at an alarming rate across regions, making access to adequate housing more difficult for billions of people. The World Cities Report 2026 provides a comprehensive assessment of these challenges, drawing on new global data and analysis to illuminate the structural forces shaping housing outcomes worldwide. Housing is far more than a roof and four walls: it plays a critical role in determining health, economic opportunity and well-being, making it central to the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals. The report is a call to action and a guide for transformation. It argues that resolving the global housing crisis requires sustained political commitment, coordinated governance, expanded financing tools and meaningful community engagement. Recognizing housing as both a human right and essential social and economic infrastructure is key to advancing more inclusive, resilient and sustainable urban futures. International Investment in a Turbulent Era UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD)

The global landscape for international investment is being reshaped by geopolitical tensions, tariff escalation, weakening multilateral disciplines and rising economic security concerns. These forces are making the investment environment more uncertain, fragmented and politicized. Importantly, investment decisions are increasingly affected by strategic and security considerations. The World Investment Report 2026 analyses the scale and nature of changes in investment patterns caused by these developments. It examines related investment policy trends, including industrial policies, investment screening mechanisms, supply-chain-related measures and the growing use of regional and inter-regional agreements. World Migration Report 2026

International Organization for Migration (IOM) Access to safe and regular migration pathways continues to support economic growth and development worldwide. The World Migration Report 2026 shows that restricting these pathways does not stop migration but instead shifts it into more irregular routes, increasing risks for migrants and costs for States, limiting the broader benefits of migration. While the number of international migrants has grown over time, migration patterns vary across regions, underscoring that there is no single global migration story and that responses must be tailored to regional realities. The report highlights that access to migration opportunities remains uneven, with pathways expanding more for people in higher-income countries while remaining constrained for those in lower-income contexts, reinforcing global mobility inequalities. The report outlines practical steps to sustain economic benefits, including expanding safe and regular migration pathways, reducing remittance costs, and supporting skills mobility and reintegration. It calls for stronger regional cooperation, improved data collection, and more inclusive, evidence-based policies to better manage migration in a rapidly changing global context. Methodological Assessment, Financial Viability and Environmental Risk Evaluation United Nations

This study assesses the feasibility of using afforestation carbon finance to support landscape restoration in Central Asian arid ecosystems, focusing on Saxaul-based systems. It evaluates relevant carbon certification standards, carbon sequestration potential, and economic viability, finding that project success is highly dependent on scale, site conditions, and certification pathway selection. While sequestration potential of these ecosystems is modest, viable returns (economic, social and environmental) are achievable under the right conditions. Key risks are considered manageable with appropriate governance, long-term land-use agreements, and robust monitoring frameworks. Publication Date: September 2026 ISBN: 9789211597394 Language: E F R

Youth Mental Health and Well-being United Nations

The World Youth Report on Youth Mental Health and Well-being examines how youth mental health and well-being are shaped by six social determinants, i.e. education, employment, family dynamics, poverty, technology, and societal attitudes. The report highlights how inequalities in these areas create disparities in mental health outcomes, noting that stigma, discrimination, and unequal access to opportunities and care compound risks for young people. Drawing on extensive literature reviews, expert consultations, youth surveys, and real-life youth testimonies, the Report stresses cross-sectoral action, inclusive policies, and youth-led initiatives. Ultimately, it calls for comprehensive approaches that ensure no young person is left behind in achieving mental health and well-being. Publication Date: October 2025 ISBN: 9789211577785 Language: E

Revisiting Consensus in Multilateral Disarmament Negotiations: Trends, Challenges and the Way Forward United Nations

This paper examines the evolving role of consensus in multilateral disarmament negotiations from the tenth special session of the General Assembly (1978) to the present day. It aims to support Member States in considering how to balance progress on disarmament with the legitimacy associated with consensus-based outcomes. Rather than offering a legal definition or interpretation of consensus, the authors reflect upon historical examples of its practical application, particularly in the areas of nuclear disarmament and conventional arms. The case studies presented do not imply approval or disapproval of positions taken by States. Publication Date: March 2026 ISBN: 9789211548440 Language: E

Socioeconomic Prosperity Amid the Transition to an Environmentally Sustainable Economy United Nations

It highlights moderating growth, persistent global uncertainty, volatile capital flows, rising trade tensions and widening disparities within and across countries. With fiscal space under pressure and labour market recovery uneven, the Survey emphasizes the central role of credible fiscal, monetary and structural policies in maintaining stability while supporting vulnerable groups and strengthening domestic and regional sources of demand.

Economic Governance Report III: Assessment of Governance of Public Debt in Africa

Periodicals

United Nations

Public debt has reached historic levels globally, pressuring public finances and development prospects. In Africa, these pressures have intensified amid rising interest rates, tighter global liquidity and heightened exposure to external shocks. This report argues that debt sustainability cannot be reduced to fiscal ratios or short-term repayment capacity alone, but depends on the quality of institutions, legal frameworks, transparency and oversight across the entire debt life cycle, as well as on the global financial conditions within which African countries operate. Drawing on comparative case studies, it introduces a Growth Enhancing Governance approach and a Sustainable Debt Governance Cycle to assess how debt can be managed as a tool for structural transformation, resilience and inclusive growth.

Growth Through Innovation: Harnessing Data and Frontier Technologies for Africa’s Economic Transformation United Nations

The Economic Report on Africa 2026, using a mixed-methods approach that includes empirical analysis and case studies, highlights the impact of innovation on economic growth and development through enhanced productivity. It outlines the opportunities, risks, and challenges in harnessing data and frontier technologies and innovations to drive economic transformation, and the actions African countries can take to maximize the transformative potential. The report finds that enhancing Africa’s sectoral productivity and closing the productivity gap through technology and innovation requires differentiated strategies, with agriculture at risk of being left behind without climatesmart reforms, irrigation, and targeted finance. The Future is Care: Visioning Inclusive and Resilient Care Systems in Asia and the Pacific United Nations

Care sustains every society and economy in Asia and the Pacific, yet it remains largely invisible and undervalued, absorbed disproportionately by women, often at the cost of their health, income and time. Across the region, women perform on average two to seven times more unpaid care work than men, while demographic change, digitalization, urbanization, climate change and persistent inequalities are transforming who needs care, who provides it and how it is organized. “The Future is Care: Visioning Inclusive and Resilient Care Systems in Asia and the Pacific” applies strategic foresight to the care economy in the region. Rather than projecting current trends forward, it asks how care could unfold along several divergent paths, helping governments design policies that remain sound whichever future arrives. Reports of Judgments, Advisory Opinions and Orders International Court of Justice (ICJ)

This series contains the decisions of the Court in both the English and French texts. Each decision is published as soon as possible after it has been given, in an unbound fascicle, which is sold separately. To allow for binding, a continuous system of pagination is adopted for all the fascicles of any one year. Early each year an analytical index is published of the previous year’s decisions; this may also be purchased separately. A binder is available for those who have obtained the separate fascicles and index at the time of their publication. The collected decisions, with index, for each year, may also be obtained ready bound in one volume.

The United Nations Guide to Model UN United Nations

Model United Nations (MUN) simulations are popular exercises for those interested in learning more about the UN. It is estimated that hundreds of thousands of students worldwide participate every year in MUN at all educational levels in schools and universities. Many of today’s leaders in law, government, business and the arts participated in MUN as students. Some MUNs however do not follow the actual rules and practices used at the UN. This guide is designed for students and teachers on how to organize and participate in MUNs that simulate the way the UN actually works. Children’s Climate Risk Report 2026

Ukraine Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan 2026 This document is consolidated by OCHA on behalf of the Humanitarian Country Team and partners. It provides a shared understanding of the impact of the war on the people of Ukraine, including the most pressing humanitarian needs, the estimated number of people who need assistance. It also outlines the strategy to ensure adequate and timely life-saving and life-sustaining response, and the financial request to make humanitarian operations possible.

The Children’s Climate Risk Report 2026 provides the most detailed global picture to date of where children face the greatest climate risks. In an unprecedented level of detail, it shows how children’s exposure to multiple, overlapping climate hazards – combined with their inherent physical vulnerabilities and gaps in the social services they rely on – undermines their rights and increases their risk of harm. The report introduces new data from UNICEF’s Global Child Hazard Database, enabling analysis at a geographic scale relevant for policy and action.

Strengthening Information Integrity: Issue Brief 3: Children, Youth and Information Integrity The UN Global Principles for Information Integrity sets out a rights-based vision for the global information ecosystem, calling on all stakeholders to work together. Realizing that vision for children and youth requires concrete, coordinated action grounded in evidence and guided by the perspectives, lived experiences and hopes of children and youth. As digital technologies and information environments continue to evolve, the current moment presents an urgent opportunity to move from principles to practical action.
