REV. CECIL WILLIAMS JR. The Rev. Cecil L. Williams, Jr. was born to Cecil L. and Cynthia R. Williams in San Francisco, Ca. As a child, he was raised in church with a family of preachers, teachers, and gospel recording artists. He was taught to reverence God, love God’s people, and do Kingdom work to the honor and glory of the Savior. He accepted Christ as his personal savior in the fourth grade. Matriculating and graduating through the public and private schools of Northern California, he successfully entered college, he was conferred with the Bachelor of Arts Degree in Humanities from the New College of California. He sought out direction for his life at First AME Church in Oakland where he soon became a member, matured and accepted the call to ordained ministry under the leadership of the Reverend Dr. Harold R. Mayberry (now Presiding Elder), Chairperson of the AME Episcopal Committee. As an associate minister, he successfully completed the AME Board of Examiners, and a Master of Divinity from the American Baptist Seminary of the West. He was ordained an itinerant deacon under the leadership of Bishop John R. Bryant, and an itinerant elder in under the hand of the Bishop T. Larry Kirkland, in the 5th Episcopal District. Rev. Williams became a guest speaker on the local, conference and district levels in several experiences around the 5th Episcopal District, and ecumenically in the San Francisco/Oakland Bay Area. In 2011, he was appointed the Assistant to the Pastor of First AME, Church, but the Lord elevated his work at the call of Bishop T. Larry Kirkland to in February of 2012 to become the pastor of Allen Chapel AME Church in San Francisco, where God moved in a mighty way. Allen’s membership and spirits grew almost immediately as souls were being won for Christ. New ministries were started, and existing ministries were revived. During his brief tenure there, he was elected as the Vice President of the California Conference’s Ministerial Alliance and appointed the Assistant Secretary of the 149th Session of the California Annual Conference, and the Statistician of the and 150th Session of the California Conference.
REV CECIL WILLIAMS JR At the close of the 5 District 2014-2015 Planning Meeting, the God blessed Pastor Williams to be transferred to the 12 Episcopal District to serve under the leadership of Bishop Samuel L. Green, Sr.as the new shepherd of St. John AME Church in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. St. John became a church on the move and created new in-roads by feeding the mind, bodies and spirits of the people through enriched Bible Studies for all ages, weekly prayer meetings, revivals and integrity in leadership for the district. Pastor Williams is currently the Chair of the East Arkansas Conference Board of Examiners. He is also a candidate for the Doctor of Ministry degree at the United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio in the Gardner C. Taylor Scholars program. The Lord was kind to Pastor Williams allowing him to serve the academic community as the President and CEO of Jackson Theological Seminary in North Little Rock, Arkansas which has a Bachelor of Arts completion program in Biblical Studies and a Master of Divinity program. While serving as the chief administrator, Pastor Williams has also instructed undergraduate students in Church Administration, Church Doctrine, Biblical Interpretation, and also taught Homiletics. He was also elected a Delegate of the 12th District to the General Conference, representing at the 2021 meeting in Orlando, Florida. He also served as the chair of the East Arkansas Annual Conference Board of Examiners; he served on the Mayor of Pine Bluff’s COVID-19 Task force as well. On March 5, 2022, after having been transferred back to the 5th Episcopal District by Bishop Clement W. Fugh at the Mid-Year Meeting, Rev. Williams was appointed to Bethel AME Church in Portland, Oregon. He has led us into a focused vision to get us started in a strong direction. It is called R.E.S.E.T.: Repositioning Everything for Spiritual and Exponential Transformation. With this strong vision, Bethel is embarking in the “Bethel Movement,” which seeks to make space for God to transform us. The journey is already exciting as former members, family and friends are moving back to the “house of God.” And there is still plenty of room for new faces and partnerships with community supporters that desire to see the liberation and growth of God’s people. Having offered himself to the church, and having a heart for the people, his servant-leadership and his love for Christ has blessed the people of God and help to point the church towards becoming the beloved community of Jesus wherever he has been privileged to serve. Pastor Williams’ partner in love, life and ministry is his wife Lady April, who he has known for over 20 years. Their children are their adult son Alejandro and their teen daughter Ayanna. They have one grandson whom they love dearly, Trey. th
