Like many American families, Kellie Beckwith’s ancestors immigrated to the United States in search of a better life. “My family tree has members who served in the military spanning numerous generations, including my father, so I grew up in a military family. This instilled in me a deep sense of patriotism and I wanted to create a collection that really spoke to the pride I have in both my heritage and country.”
The BOM program, Liberty Island Sampler, represents her family and those who serve their country.
Popular Americana themes continue for the season with traditional bandana motifs inspired by the Smithsonian. Beautifully detailed prints mix and match easily in shades of denim blue, tomato red and cream mix that appear somewhat vintage, yet updated, creating quilts, décor, accessories and apparel for guys and girls alike.
Mary Mulari’s sweet and colorful images of 1920’s childhood valentines are featured in six inch frames. The original images came from school valentine exchanges, collected by Mary’s mother, who couldn’t bear to throw them away. She gifted them all to Mary a few years before she died in 1998. The main print presents twelve unique valentine images perfect for central quilt squares, wall hangings, and other accessories for the home.
Sheryl Johnson (Temecula Quilt Co) brings quilters a gorgeous group of prints in the rich, warm shades of a fall afternoon, including warm umbers, burnt oranges, greens and golden yellows with a pinch of cream. “The cozy geometrics, paisleys, florals and plaids remind me of a brisk night around a bonfire with a quilt draped over my lap and a good book” says Sheryl. Her “Harvest Stars” free quilt project showcases the prints beautifully.
Fans of Pam Buda (Heartspun Quilts) will welcome her new collection of basic prints in a wide variety of colors that, “…quite frankly, your stash can’t live without! I chose all new vintage prints and colored them in a plethora of shades for your piecing pleasure.” You’ll love the two FREE quilt project options, including a precut-friendly design that’s perfect for scrap lovers! According to Pam Buda (Heartspun Quilts), “Everyone has their favorite color and mine is most definitely red. In the late 1990’s, Jenifer Gaston started combining different fabrics such as cotton, wool, velvet and linen, in her quilts and projects. She decided she needed to start building her fabric stash, “so I could just play and create and have what I needed when I had an idea! So when it was time to plan my second fabric line, I wanted the colors to blend well with my first fabric line, as well as my current fabric stash!”
Lanaot Textures: Stash Happy
The collection includes cotton prints, with Lanacot Textures designed for use as interesting appliqué backgrounds. The tumbler print is based on “the many gifts I have made for friends by piecing together lots of pretty neutral prints from my stash with a tumbler shaped template to make an interesting background for adding the beautiful textured wools we have included to appliqué to!
Carrie Quinn explains, “This collection is named for my sixth grandchild, Grace Elizabeth. Elizabeth is also my middle name and a proud family name. The very first woman from my family to come to this country in 1632 was Elizabeth Phillips, wife of the Reverend George Phillips. Through the years, there have been many other family members named Elizabeth, including one of my sisters. I was so pleased when my son and daughter-in-law decided to carry on the tradition by using this traditional name for little Grace.”
The Smithsonian archives provide the inspiration for this pretty group of small floral and bud prints and textures, in a delicate palette of soft blue, lilac, pink, blush and celadon.
