Master of Ceremonies Jonathan Martin Jonathan Martin is an Emmy-nominated anchor at 11Alive News, where he anchors the station’s morning newscasts. He joined the team in July 2023 and brings more than 15 years of journalism experience covering major stories across the country.

A proud Atlanta native, Jonathan is honored to tell stories in the city that helped shape him. He’s known for his deep connection to the community and is a strong supporter of HBCUs.

He’s honored to return as emcee for Morehouse School of Medicine’s Gloster Society Celebration. Last year, he also served as emcee for MSM’s Men’s Heart Healthy Breakfast.

Jonathan is the 2024 recipient of the Atlanta Press Club Award for Excellence in Television Reporting. His career has taken him from Augusta, Georgia, to Nashville, New Orleans, and Houston, before returning home to Atlanta.

Louis C. Brown Vanguard Award

The late Louis C. Brown, MD, was a prominent African American internist in Atlanta and past president of the Georgia State Medical Association.

In 1969, he served as a member of the Georgia Health Manpower Task Force, which discovered that Georgia ranked well below the national average in number of physicians per capita — 28 percent of the state’s population was African American, but only two percent of the state’s doctors were Black. Moreover, the study documented the need to train more African American physicians for medically underserved African American communities in urban and rural areas of Georgia. Dr. Brown brought the committee’s findings to the Atlanta University Center’s (AUC) college presidents and recommended to use the report as a basis for establishing a medical school within the AUC. Morehouse School of Medicine became a reality thanks to the efforts of Dr. Brown; Dr. Hugh M. Gloster; Joseph N. Gayles, PhD; Alice Gloster Green Burnette; Thomas E. Norris, PhD; Louis W. Sullivan, MD; Edgar E. Smith, PhD; and Clinton E. Warner, Jr., MD.

With deep reverence and gratitude, Morehouse School of Medicine honors the late Clarence and Pearl Hollis—faithful servants, devoted philanthropists and enduring champions of community and health equity.

For nearly two decades, Clarence and Pearl stood as committed partners in advancing MSM’s mission. They demonstrated this commitment through sustained, intentional philanthropy, contributing more than $60,000 in endowed scholarship support and making annual gifts over 15 consecutive years. These funds directly reduced financial barriers for students pursuing careers in medicine, public health and biomedical science, enabling them to focus on their training and ultimately serve in communities where access to care remains limited. This giving helped strengthen MSM’s pipeline of diverse healthcare professionals—an

essential driver of improved health outcomes and health equity.

Pearl’s leadership extended beyond personal contributions. As an active participant in the Kitchen Cabinet, Pearl helped mobilize a collective philanthropic effort that raised more than $750,000 in support of institutional priorities during a pivotal chapter of leadership at MSM. This effort amplified resources for student support, strategic initiatives and the continued advancement of MSM’s mission.

The Hollis’ philanthropy was deeply personal and purpose driven. Pearl championed students not only through financial support but also through mentorship, advocacy and connection, ensuring that recipients of these opportunities were seen, supported and inspired to lead.

A trusted financial advisor and community leader, Pearl advanced economic stability for countless families, reinforcing the critical link between financial health and overall wellbeing. Together, Pearl and Clarence gave generously of their time, talent and resources, leaving a legacy that continues to empower future generations of MSM-trained leaders.

Anthony Welters, a notable healthcare executive and Trustee Emeritus as well as former Chair of the MSM Board of Trustees, has contributed substantially to institutional advancement and mission fulfillment. Beatrice Welters, in her capacity as Co-Chair of MSM’s $500 million comprehensive campaign, was instrumental in securing resources and broadening opportunities for both students and faculty.

Beyond MSM, their humanitarian vision is reflected in the AnBryce Foundation, which creates pathways to higher education and leadership development for underserved youth. Michael R. Bloomberg Founder of Bloomberg L.P. & Bloomberg Philanthropies Louis C. Brown Vanguard Award Recipient Bloomberg Philanthropies, founded by Michael R. Bloomberg, has redefined modern philanthropy through bold investments that expand opportunity and improve lives.

Through the Greenwood Initiative, Bloomberg Philanthropies launched a landmark partnership with the nation’s Historically Black Medical Schools grounded in the belief that increasing the number of Black physicians is essential to advancing health equity and improving outcomes in underserved communities.

In 2020, Bloomberg Philanthropies committed $100 million to reduce medical student debt across four institutions including Morehouse School of Medicine, Howard University College of Medicine, Meharry Medical College and Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science.

This investment provided up to $100,000 in support of students graduating between 2021 and 2024. This generous contribution helped to

ease financial burden and allowing graduates to pursue careers guided by purpose and service rather than debt. At Morehouse School of Medicine, this investment delivered immediate impact, strengthening the student pipeline and reinforcing the institution’s mission to advance health equity and achieve health justice.

In 2024, Bloomberg Philanthropies expanded this commitment with a transformative $600 million investment to establish endowments at the four Historically Black Medical Schools. Morehouse School of Medicine received $175 million to support scholarships, loan repayment and the systems required to sustain student success for generations.

This partnership reflects a shared vision rooted in impact, sustainability and equity, strengthening MSM and preparing future leaders to serve where they are needed most.
