M ARKE T OVERVIEW

PUBLISHER’S NOTE WELCOME TO THE 2019 M ARITIME SERVICES DIRECTORY It is with great pleasure that I present you the 2019 Maritime Services Directory. This annual business directory has been designed not only as a business-to-business company guide, but also as a contacts platform for anyone actively involved in the maritime sector.

kept us informed of developments, projects and company profiles. I hope you enjoy both the content and the new slender dimensions. Should you have any remarks or suggestions for further improvement, please let me know!

As you may have noticed, this twelfth edition has a new format. At our customers’ request, we have decided to resize the Directory to make it more manageable and compact. One of the most important advantages of this is that it raises visibility for the companies, as each company is now presented on at least one full page. And, more practically, the smaller size makes it easier to handle. We kick off the 2019 Directory with an overview of the maritime industry. How are the various sectors dealing with their specific challenges? This overview, together with our growing gallery of contacts, showcases the developments taking place within the industry. We have also incorporated a section on useful addresses, including branch associations, classification societies, educational institutions, governmental bodies, shipping companies, operators and shipyards.

>OffshOre Industry Oil & Gas

In its latest Oil and Gas Outlook, DNV GL publishes the results of a global survey among 813 senior industry professionals and executives, along with fifteen in-depth interviews with a range of experts, business leaders and analysts. According to the report, oil and gas companies entered 2018 with a more positive outlook than in recent years. This sentiment, while not universal, is built on more than just the prices of oil or gas. For many, it is built on a belief that their organisation has sufficiently evolved in recent years not just to cope, but even to thrive,

against a backdrop of lower-for-longer prices, the rise of unconventional oil, the growing demand for LNG, and the long-term energy transition. It also looks as though this evolution has only just begun. Meanwhile, in 2018, several new oil and gas projects have taken off on a worldwide scale, and, driven by new offshore discoveries and the expansion of existing drilling fields as demand for power continues to grow, it is expected that global offshore investments will reach bottom in 2018, after which investments will grow steadily year by year.

Decommissioning

As this involves ample work, the service industry hopes to profit from decommisioning.

In order to meet the OSPAR Commission 98/3 Decision requiring all offshore structures to be removed once they are taken out of operation in the upcoming decades, much of the North Sea oil and gas suprastructure and infrastructure will have to be decommissioned after a long period of production. As this involves ample work and money, the service industry hopes to profit from this development. Many investigations have been carried out to predict the actual size of the decommissioning market. Oil & Gas UK’s Decommissioning Insight 2017 provides a comprehensive overview of the status of decommissioning in the North Sea. According to the report, decommissioning will take place on 349 fields from 2017 to 2025: six fields on the Danish CS, 23 fields on the Norwegian CS, 106 fields on the Dutch CS and 214 fields on the UK CS. Across the four regions, over 200 platforms are forecast for complete or partial removal. Approximately 2,500 wells are planned for plug-and-abandon (P&A), and nearly 7,800km of pipeline will be decommissioned. These figures reflect a total volume of approximately 1,421,641t of material to be taken ashore for further handling.

Re-Use

A new discussion related to decommissioning is the possible re-use of abandoned oil and gas fields and infrastructure. In the Netherlands for example, the possible options for re-use which have so far been investigated are electrification, hydrogen production and CO2 storage. Dutch research from Nexstep shows that by 2025 there will be a considerable peak in the amount of infrastructure and the number of installations that will be available for decommissioning. The accelerated dismantling threatens to remove infrastructure that can be re-used in the future for the storage and transport of sustainable energy. Planning is therefore important; the parties involved must Photo courtesy of Heerema Marine Contractors

determine what is eligible for re-use before it is too late, and must think about how the remaining infrastructure can be decommissioned as efficiently as possible. Electrification of platforms, CO2 injection and the conversion of offshore electricity to gases such as hydrogen, are all relevant to the construction of a sustainable, stable and affordable energy system for the future of the North Sea. These options are highly dependent on the availability of the oil and gas infrastructure at the right time and at the right place. But no matter how, the industry is highly dependent on the North Sea planners, and the Paris Climate Agreement will be the driving force that will transform the North Sea from a fossil energy source to a source of renewable energy.

Offshore Wind

2017 was a good year for offshore wind in many ways. Most important was the price of European tenders that, after the breakthrough in 2016, continued its downward trend. According to WindEurope, offshore wind in Europe saw a record 3,148 MW of net additional installed capacity in 2017. This corresponds to 560 new offshore wind

6

MSD Algemeen def.indd 6

turbines across seventeen windfarms. Europe now has a total installed offshore wind capacity of 15,780MW, resulting from 4,149 wind turbines across eleven countries. In the first half of 2018, 1.1GW of offshore wind was installed. For the whole of 2018, WindEurope expects to see 3.3GW new European offshore wind. Offshore wind in Europe seems to have reached a certain stage of maturity, with new developments such as the first floating windfarm which started producing its first energy at the end of 2017. In 2019, Europe will see another record for offshore wind power connected to the grid. Today, Europe is leading in the production of offshore wind energy, but according to figures of MAKE research institute, Asia will be closing the gap with Europe within the next decade. It is expected that by 2023, the power capacity provided by offshore wind in China will surpass Europe’s volume. As the wind industry continues to expand both onshore and offshore, and turbines, especially those at sea, increase in size and capacity, a new market is beginning to develop. In several sectors, there is demand for second-hand, refurbished wind turbines. Gearboxes, generators, rotors

and blades, for example, are being renovated by specialised companies, giving them a considerable life extension. The text above is partly based on articles that have been published in various issues of Offshore Industry in 2018.

>shIpbuIldIng Industry Cyclical Nature

In the first six months of 2018, 338 newbuild vessels were ordered according to VesselsValue. Compared to the first half of 2017 (321 vessels) the 2018 figure looks positive. What one should be aware of, however, is that most of the orders were placed in Q1, whereas Q2 showed the lowest number of vessels ordered since the start of 2016. Ordering trends at the start of the year were highest in the markets that were seeing the highest returns. This includes the dry bulk and LNG carrier markets, while interest in the low earnings environment tanker markets was softer. It still appears to be easier to secure financing for ships in a strong market as opposed to those that are suffering. The drop in Q2 shows that over-ordering may not be a

significant issue. Some of the market segments have a large outstanding order book, but most of these are offset by an equal number of ships on the water which are equal to their recycling value. If orders remain between the EUR 3.4 billion and EUR 6.85 billion level, it should support the asset values of younger ships as well. The headwinds experienced by global trade may give some owners reason to temporarily suspend their fleet renewal plans, especially in the container and dry bulk markets, which would be directly impacted by the higher prices for consumer goods which would result from tariffs. However, most shipping markets appear to be either at their trough level or improving, which should encourage more investor interest in newbuilds going forward. The shift in money being committed to the ships is a good reminder that the cyclical nature of the business remains intact.

Increasing Newbuild Requirements

The 2017 Market Forecast Report of SEA Europe shows that newbuild requirements are on the rise, albeit that the growth rate is relatively low. Drivers for growth include increasing demand for transport and supplyside factors. Newer, smarter, and more efficient equipment, technologies, and training are playing an even more

significant role in fleet replacement. Fleet digitalisation is offering opportunities for the fleet to become more effective, transparent, responsive, and timely in its operations. Nonetheless, with sustained overcapacity in the global shipbuilding and transport capability, these demanded prospects for growth are not enough to restore balance to the on-going health of the overall maritime industry. Much has already been done to reduce this capacity, but it still falls short and risks are still high. Apart from increasing newbuild requirements, SEA Europe foresees a promising potential within conversions and retrofitting of existing fleets in a quest to comply with the even tighter regulatory

8

MSD Algemeen def.indd 8

requirements and ensure increasing operational efficiency. According to SEA Europe, the dry bulk and tanker market is having to deal with over-supply, resulting in slow growth. For container vessels, the organisation foresees a decline in orders over the next five years, but after that a moderate growth towards 2035. Supersized containerships are leading to overcapacity and it is estimated that the demand for very large containerships will end and the demand for feeder vessels for servicing smaller ports and shorter shipping routes is likely to increase. A similar increase is expected within the RO-RO segment. The global offshore fleet consists of around 10,000 vessels in 30 sub-types, with sizes ranging from small to huge. A very diverse market, therefore. The long-term outlook for offshore vessels is positive, although the recent high ordering activity in several sub-segments combined with severe cuts in offshore spending has resulted in oversupply in most sub-segments. It is challenging to predict a future oil price development, and in the same way it is also very difficult to predict the future level of vessel demand. Still, demand for energy, from fossil fuels as well as from renewable, will keep on growing on a global scale. Therefore, the long-term outlook for offshore is promising. Despite a fairly mature passenger-ferry market and slowing growth in passenger volumes in key markets, overall moderate demand growth is expected in the medium to long term. In contrast to most other vessel segments, cruise vessels

have experienced considerable growth over the past years and, looking at the current order books, the level of growth will remain in the next few years. In the long term, the newbuild requirements will most likely moderate and decrease linked to trends in international tourism, economic growth, and population growth. Newbuild requirements for non-cargo carriers such as fishing vessels, research vessels, tugs, dredgers and other specialised vessels are mixed but overall, higher demand for newbuilds are expected towards 2035.

length (2,840m across 77 projects). Number two, Feretti (2,762m across 87 projects) and three, Sanlorenzo (2,457m across 71 projects), also kept their ranking. In 2018, a total of 773 yachts are under construction. Thirteen more than in 2017. When looking at length, Italy, the Netherlands and Turkey are the leading countries in 2018, with a total length of 20,510m. This is more then two-thirds of the total length under construction in the Order Book’s Top 20 Countries Ranking.

Superyachts

The BWM treaty entered into force on 8 September 2017. The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) considers the implementation of the convention as a milestone for the health of our planet. Under the convention, all ships in international traffic are required to manage their ballast water and sediments to a required standard, according to a ship-specific ballast water management plan. All ships have to carry a ballast-water record book and an international ballast-water management certificate. The ballast-water management standards are being phased in over a period of time. New ships must meet the ballast-water treatment standard. Existing ships should exchange ballast water mid-ocean, but they will need to meet the ballast-water treatment standard by the date of a specified renewal survey. Eventually, most ships will need to install an onboard ballast-water treatment system. The main type of ‘bunker’ oil for ships is heavy fuel oil, derived as a residue from crude oil distillation. Crude oil contains sulphur which, following combustion in the engine, ends up in ship emissions. Sulphur oxides (SOx) are known

Over recent years, the global superyachts industry has been growing rapidly as the ultra-high and high net worth individual population is increasing. With a grand total of 429 sales, 2017 was the busiest year for the superyacht brokerage market since the global financial crisis. The second-hand sales and the charter market showed positive figures as well. Globally, the growth in the luxury yachts market has been driven by the rising trend in maritime tourism and recreational activities. Among the vessels, motor currently dominates the global superyachts market and expedition vessels are expected to witness maximum growth in the coming years. The US is still expected to be the largest brokerage market worldwide. In 2018, eight superyachts are being launched that will enter the Superyacht Top 100. The largest one, Lürssen Yacht’s 136m-long Project Shu, has completed her sea trials and is expected to be delivered to her owner in autumn 2018. According to the Global Order Book 2018, Azimut-Benetti remains the number one yard when looking at total yacht-

to be harmful to the environment and human health. IMO regulations to reduce sulphur oxide (SOx) emissions from ships first came into force in 2005 and since then, the limits on sulphur oxides have been progressively tightened. From 1 January 2020, the limit for sulphur in fuel oil used on board ships operating outside designated emission control areas will be reduced to 0.5% m/m (mass by mass). This will significantly reduce the amount of sulphur oxides emanating from ships and should have major health and environmental benefits for the world, particularly for populations living close to ports and coasts. During the most recent session of the IMO’s MEPC on 13 April 2018, the committee adopted an initial strategy on the reduction of Green House Gas (GHG) emissions from ships. The initial strategy envisages GHG emissions to peak as soon as possible and, compared to emission levels in 2008, to reduce the total annual GHG emissions by at least 50%, while pursuing efforts towards phasing them out entirely. According to the ‘Roadmap’ approved by IMO Member States in 2016, the initial strategy is due to be revised by 2023.

In order to reduce emissions, 2018 shows a tendency towards alternative propulsion ranging from hybrid to fully electric. For commercial vessels, hybrid propulsion, such as diesel-electric, are becoming increasingly common, but also full electric propulsion has entered the stage, for example in (super) yachts and ferries. LNG looks likely to be the new alternative to diesel for the larger commercial vessels, with the first seagoing container vessels, cruise ships and inland barges entering the market. In the current order book for cruise ships, eighteen out of 94 will be LNG-powered, showing the faith shipowners have in this type of fuel. i. www.dnvgl.com i. oilandgasuk.co.uk i. windeurope.org i. www.nexstep.nl i. www.boatinternational.com i. www.superyachts.com i. www.imo.org i. www.vesselsvalue.com i. www.seaeurope.eu

Discom: Solutions for a better world!

Discom’s history goes back more than 40 years. From that time our field of work has broadened considerably. Starting out as a supplier of silencers we have grown into an all-round specialist in exhaust systems. At Discom noise limitation, reduction of hazardous emissions and waste heat recovery go hand in hand. That combination of expertise is unique. Integrating knowledge in these specialist fields enables us to coordinate systems precisely. Our expertise in complete exhaust systems for the maritime industry (inland- and seagoing vessels and navy ships) has been built up over three decades. Not only should you expect Discom to provide clear advice on how to keep noise and vibrations in line with the prevailing standards, but also to advise and assist with regulating the emission of exhaust gases. That combination of expertise means you can leave all the aspects of the exhaust system in the hands of a single specialist who guarantees optimal integration of inlet silencer, exhaust silencer, spark arrestors and mounting elements. We are specialists in both dry and ‘wet’ (water injected) exhaust systems and waste heat recovery systems. We also have a reputation of being a supplier with a keen eye for innovative techniques which increase performance or efficiency.

38

Company Profiles 2019.indd 38

Our latest developments are ‘Water Cooled Valves’ and ‘Stage V systems’. The Valves help to cool down the exhaust gas, prevents the hull from burning and reduces hot spots. Installing a ‘Stage V system’, designed, developed and produced by Discom, makes sure your ship is ready voor the high demands concerning Stage V emission limitations. For more information about our solutions, please contact our employees. They will be happy to inform and advise you about your possibilities.

Rating: Specifically seaworthy!

KTR couplings are on the high seas all over the world and are used in various applications for marine technology: in main and auxiliary drives and every kind of deck equipment. Nearly all our couplings can be certified in accordance with the strict standards of Germanischer Lloyd (GL), American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and Bureau Veritas (BV) or any other classification bureau and are approved to DIN EN 10204 standard.

Full manoeuvrability for steering drives

Bow thrusters, rear rudders and transverse rudders require couplings, that dampen torsional vibrations, such as ROTEX®. Thanks to its compact design it is easy to assemble and operate. This type of coupling functions without any maintenance. ROTEX® compensates for axial, radial and angular displacements, increasing the service life of the entire drive system. Its damping effect can be 58

Company Profiles 2019.indd 58

controlled by the Shore hardness of the elastomer spider: a hard elastomer is used for high torques, a softer one is used for higher damping effects. You can keep vessels, whose rudder have a shaft diameter exceeding 600mm, on course by using the positive-locking shaft-hub-connection CLAMPEX® clamping sets.

Power and safety on board

Wherever there is anything that needs to be moved whilst at sea, KTR couplings are involved. On IC-engines driven hydraulic power packs the flange couplings BoWex®-ELASTIC and BoWex® FLE-PA are often used, on pumps and compressors ROTEX® or POLY-NORM® or the torsional stiff steel lamina couplings RADEX®-N or RIGIFLEX®-N and on winches and cranes ROTEX® couplings and KTR-STOP high-power brake systems. KTR-STOP brakes are also used in lock and turn systems on the main shaft to position and/or hold in position the propeller.

Components for reliable on-board hydraulics

ROTEX is used in numerous hydraulic power packs on board as well inside the vessel. Its easy plug-in procedure is of benefit during assembly used in conjunction with a KTR Bell housing. New KTR Bell housings produced from cast iron are suitable for marine applications, withstanding the high loads and aggressive seawater in the long term. Additionally we are pleased to supply all other hydraulic components such as oil tanks etc. Everything is available from one single source and is fully compatible for such harsh working environments.

Perfect thermo management for marine hydraulics KTR offers oil-air as well as oil-water coolers being resistant to aggressive seawater. The compact OAC oil-air coolers for high-power cooling of hydraulic fluids and lubricants are coated with a corrosion-resistant KTL dipping paint for marine applications. They protect the cooler reliably against oxidation, even in the area between the laminas which is difficult to enter. In

addition electric motors of protection class IP 56 are used. Even higher are the demands on TAK/T shell and tube oil-water coolers cooling oil with highly aggressive salt water. For these applications we use permanently seawater resistant materials

Success is a ‘question of selection’

KTR also offer additional support via our online selection program for couplings, hydraulic components and oil-coolers. For further information please order our brochure ‘Couplings for marine technology’ or our Company Catalogue. Both are also available as a PDF download on the KTR website. Besides looking good panels should offer benefits in other vital areas, such as weight and noise reduction, and fire safety. We ensure our products meet the highest standards by choosing top grade materials and processing them with the utmost care. How dirty is the air that you breathe on board? Piguillet and Sons was founded in 1994. After many years of experience in shipping, Mr Piguillet developed a revolutionary cleaning system for the internal cleaning of air ducts. The HPV System©. With a worldwide patent, Mr Piguillet Sr has launched what has now grown into a company that acts globally. Piguillet has its ‘roots’ in shipping and knows what is happening and what is being asked of us. Fully self-supporting and a ‘no-nonsense’ attitude with passionate people is what our company is known for. On board a 24-hour society prevails. Clean, fresh air is a must when it comes to the health of the crew. – Burning eyes – Headaches – Fatigue – Concentration loss A small selection of apparently small but nevertheless important problems. A dirty HVAC-system contributes greatly to this.

2. The HVAC systems, should be designed as followed: (a) The air maintains at a satisfactory temperature and relative humidity compared to outdoor conditions, and ensures adequate air quality in all air-conditioned areas. (b) The system shall be constructed so that it permits cleaning and disinfection in order to prevent or control the spread of diseases. A dirty, rusted Air Handling Unit (AHU) contributes to the spread of bacteria and fungus. A well-conditioned and clean HVAC-system will contribute to a good and healthy environment and will result in a good working atmosphere. Get your Air Handling System cleaned and reconditioned professionally. No evacuation of personnel and no complete dismantling of your air-ducts necessary.

Volvo Penta is a solid partner in providing marine power systems for leisure, commercial and industrial use. The combined financial and technological resources provided by the Volvo Group, coupled with our tradition of innovative marine engineering, enable us to design and deliver diesel performance for a broad range of marine and industrial applications. With our approximately 4,000 dealers in 130 countries, we are able to provide service and support all over the world. (Volvo) Penta was established in 1907 – the year the company produced its first marine engine. Volvo Penta has probably the richest innovation history in the marine world, with such global innovations as the Aquamatic Stern Drive, duo prop counter-rotating propellers and (most recently) the IPS system with the forward-facing propellers. Volvo Penta is part of the Volvo Group, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of heavy trucks, buses and construction equipment and is utilising this into the marine and industrial world in a very successful way.

Therefore Volvo Penta is now a major player in the professional market due to our high fuel-efficiency in combination and compliance with the most stringent emission legislations. No matter if you need power for planning or displacement propulsion, auxiliary power or a complete marine genset for diesel- electric or hybrid propulsion, the Volvo Penta range will satisfy your demands. Volvo Penta can deliver propulsion and auxiliary power from 62 to 550 kW(e) with an unbeatable fuel efficiency up to 192 gr/kW, the highest fuel efficiency available in the market and ready for the next emission levels worldwide. By using multiple propulsion, diesel-electric or hybrid propulsion installations, the customer will benefit from the high fuel efficiency starting at low load cycles compared using one big engine instead. On top of that they save on maintenance, get higher redundancy and with that more uptime as advantage to conventional installations.

Since 1889, the name VULKAN has stood for quality, technological leadership and a focus on the customer. Operating with five international production locations, 20Â subsidiary companies and over 50 agencies worldwide, VULKAN products and expertise are available on-site throughout the world. The business division VULKAN Couplings focuses on diesel-engine applications in marine and generator systems. VULKAN couplings, clutches, shaft systems and elastic mounts can be found in drive systems in vessels on every sea in the world.

VULKAN Benelux, the Dutch subsidiary of the VULKAN Group, primarily delivers drive solutions for offshore vessels, inland waterway vessels and dredgers. The complete drive system can be optimally tuned with respect to torsional vibration as a result of all components coming from a single source. This leads to maximum system availability and contributes to minimising the operating costs.

The new VULKAN approach towards coupling technology, ACOTEC (Advanced Coupling Technology), is a holistic approach to optimise all relevant areas of influence, in order to be able to offer the best possible products and services. The basis for this is that VULKAN Couplings combines all competences in-house, from application technology and torsional vibration calculations to the construction and development, the elastomer and vulcanisation technology right up to the test centre, condition monitoring and service. The couplings manufactured and tested with this technology form the ACOTEC coupling range of the company which are characterised by extreme resilience and reliability.
