WELCOME HOME
GLAD YOU’RE HERE!
I want to personally thank all of you for coming out to celebrate Maranatha’s 2014 Homecoming Game! Many volunteers and staff have put in many hours to help make this special occasion a fun and memorable event for all. Attending a game at Maranatha feels like a step back in time to a simpler life and evokes a down-home feeling of true Americana. We hope you enjoy the marching band, cheerleaders, floats, food trucks, and football. The entire administration is making a vested effort to raise Maranatha’s athletic program to the next level, and with the fall season more than half-way done, we are right on track and off to a solid start. The varsity football team, led by 5th year head coach Michael Cole, is reaping the rewards of their most intensive off-season training program to date and are off to their best start since 2011. The volleyball team has shown great improvement under 1st year coach Mary Beiler who is emphasizing solid mechanics and drilling them daily with fundamentals. With a strong finish, they may be able to secure a CIF playoff spot. Veteran coach Peter Gregory’s boys and girls cross country teams are young, but competitive; and he feels they have a promising future ahead of them. The JV boys team just won their first D5 meet last week! Cheerleading coach Hillary Duggin has done a fantastic job building varsity and junior high squads more than 30 girls deep, and Ruben Rodriguez has his marching band rocking! These are all steps in the right direction as we focus on turning Maranatha from a school that simply offers athletics as an option for its students into a school that attracts and develops athletes and trains them for higher levels of play. Our goal is to get the most out of every athlete’s God-given gifts and create an environment where an athlete can thrive and grow. Most importantly, we desire to strengthen the Christian walk of every athlete and help them strive to please God and honor Him in everything they do – both on and off the field. Thanks again for coming and we hope you enjoy the show! All Things! Steve Whitley Athletic Director
