Martz started manufacturing watercolours. The first geometric instruments formed the foundation for drawing technology.

Martz became Marabu: 50 years after the company was founded, the “Marabu” trademark is registered with the Imperial Patent Office.

Eberhard and Dr. Eduard Martz set up the Marabuwerke GmbH in Tamm on June 10, 1920.

Quality – Made in Germany Marabu has been a synonym for high-quality specialty paints with the quality seal “Made in Germany” for over 150 years. Development and production of our 20,000 products have always focused on the customers and market with experience, competence and an eye for detail. Our two successful divisions manufacture products which are extremely user-friendly. Whether inks for special printing processes or paints for hobby and crafts, Marabu is the number 1 in both worlds.
The Marabuwerke launched poster distemper paints, the first paints specifically manufactured for designers and practical graphic designers. Poster paints became an important business field.
1920 1921
Marabu produced the first watercolour box. This constitutes the start into an educational school product range.
1939
Marabu presented its first screen printing paint, Marapid, which was developed at the in-house screen printing test studio and laboratory.
1952
In Marabu’s 100th year, the company launched the elastic mounting adhesive “Fixogum”, an innovation which developed into a real sales classic.

Marabu Creative Colours keeps offering new and beautiful design ideas in an extraordinarily varied way. We develop products that are easy to use and attractive, engaging ideas to bring unmistakably beautiful and individual accents into any home. With our comprehensive full range of inspiring paints, Marabu supply guarantees success as well. The range is completed by the ready-to-use Marabu sets.
The Marabu logo was redesigned. The M stands for the brand name, the circle and the square for the drawing tools, and the red dot for the paints.
Marabu stepped into the hobby and leisure sector, which is a longterm significance for the business. One of the first products was the fabric painting and printing colour “Hobbytex”.
Marabu Silk paints are introduced. Silk painting became very popular in Europe in the 1980s. The quality of Marabu‘s Silk Paints continue to prove its worth today!

Sustainability – out of responsibility Environmentally friendly production and responsible use of nature and resources are fundamental elements of the Marabu philosophy. Almost all our current creative products are water-based. In addition to the environmental policy guidelines, which are firmly anchored in the processes, numerous certificates and awards prove the sustainable orientation of the company. Marabu created a comprehensive environmental report in 2010. Marabu was accredited ISO 9001 in 1995 and ISO 14001 in 2003. Marabu has undertaken a Responsible Care Initiative since 1998, and in 2011 and 2014 received the SGIA sustainability award. In 2013 Marabu received a member of the “Forest Stewardship Council“ which sets standards for responsible forest management.
The new creative colours factory was built in Bietigheim-Bissingen following the newest environmental, technical and employee-friendly standards.
Marabu bought the liquid lamination company Clearstar, founded in 1996. In 2011, it was renamed Marabu North America LP which has developed into a major player in the US printing market.

Glass and porcelain painting fun with Marabu
How to combine the Porcelain and Glas paint with the Porcelain and Glas Painter: Porcelain and Glas as well as Porcelain and Glas Painter are also ideal for combining: Simply fire in the oven after drying (approx. 4 hours) at 160°C (320°F) for 30 minutes. Afterwards the dishes will be dishwasher-safe up to max. 50°C (122°F).
How to prepare the dishes for an optimal adhesion: - Pre-cleaning: Thoroughly clean the porcelain with washing liquid or an abrasive cleaner and a sponge before painting. Then rub off any finger prints with white spirit. - Do not pre-clean the dishes in the dishwasher because the rest of the cleaning agents could stay on the dishes and keep paints from sticking. - Cutting surfaces and drinking edges should not be painted as abrasion from cutlery can damage the painting. - Arcopal/Pyrex dishes will not be dishwasher-safe after painting.

Tip: Do not use too much spray so the paint doesn’t seep underneath the stencil. Clean the stencil under running cold water. Do not throw away used paper towels! The top layers can be used as collage elements in future art projects.
STENCILLING Select stencil and place on the background. Spray with the desired Art Spray colours. To prevent unwanted colour stains, briefly remove the paint from the stencil before removing by rolling a roll of paper towels across the stencil. Alternatively, carefully lift the stencil and press onto a different background to create a negative image for subsequent creations.

Soft, water-soluble crayons for wet and dry techniques.
WIPE STENCILLING
Paint the area with the Art Crayon. Position the stencil and wipe the stencil design with a moist cloth. The design will appear as a negative of the stencil in a slightly lighter shade than the background.
MIXING / BLENDING
Apply different shades of Art Crayons in thick layers as stripes, squares, circles, etc. close together. Then immediately rub together with fingers, cloth or cotton swab. For the so-called edging, the edges around an artwork or parts of the elements of an artwork are designed, e.g. adhered pictures and words. Use the Art Crayon to paint along the edge and smudge immediately.
Tip: The colours caramel or gold create a natural antique look.
WATERCOLOUR TECHNIQUES Apply Art Crayons and spray with a fine mist of water. Smudge the dissolved colours with a brush, sponge or cloth. Use more water and tilt the picture to create a droplet effect. Spray on more water if required. Alternatively, apply a fine mist of water before painting and draw on the wet background with Art Crayons.
Tip: Apply a layer of Gesso underneath to enhance color transitions.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS I.

VIII. Warranty/limitation of liability

Marabu North America, LP (“Supplier“) shall supply goods to Customer exclusively in accordance with these General Terms and Conditions of Sale (“General Terms“). These terms apply to all deliveries by Supplier, unless the parties to the contract have agreed otherwise expressly and in writing. Any terms or conditions proffered by Customer purporting to contradict, override or supersede these General Terms shall by null and void unless specifically acknowledged and accepted in a writing signed by a duly authorized representative of Supplier. Deliveries by Supplier shall not amount to acknowledgement of the Customer’s terms or conditions. Acceptance of a delivery by Customer shall be considered acknowledgement and acceptance of these General Terms. These General Terms shall also apply to any transactions concluded at a later date between Supplier and the Customer, even if no reference is made to them in the specific case.

Orders shall only be accepted once acceptance has been confirmed in writing by the Supplier. Orders and agreements, as well as additions and amendments to an order, made verbally or on the telephone require written confirmation by the Supplier before they are legally binding. If the Supplier includes documents, such as illustrations, drawings or weight and measurement data with an offer, such information shall be treated as approximate only, unless marked expressly and in writing as binding.

The prices on the Supplier‘s price list at the date of delivery shall apply in each case, unless a fixed price has been expressly agreed. All prices are in U.S. dollars. The minimum opening order value is $250. The minimum re-order value is $100. Deliveries are made in the specified packaging units. Order quantities that are less than the quantities in the packaging units shall be rounded up. All deliveries are Ex-Works the Supplier‘s facility at 2460 A Remount Rd. North Charleston, SC 29406. The current Incoterms apply. Deliveries are made in the packaging units specified in the current price lists.

The Supplier’s invoices must be paid within 30 days of the invoice date. If payment is made within eight days of the invoice date, the Customer is entitled to a 1% discount from the net value of the goods. The Supplier is entitled to make deliveries for cash on delivery. Payments shall not be deemed to have been made until the amount has been unconditionally credited to the Supplier‘s account. In the event that the Customer is in default in payment under an existing contract for more than 10 days or has ceased to make payments or if there has been a substantial deterioration in the Customer’s financial circumstances, the Supplier’s claims under all existing contracts with the Customer shall become due for payment immediately; deferments or other postponements in payment shall terminate; the Supplier shall be entitled to demand security for deliveries that have not yet been made.

If unforeseen circumstances within the meaning of paragraph V.3 arise and, as a consequence, the economic costs and benefits of the any arrangement between Supplier and Customer is significantly altered, then the Supplier shall be entitled to amend or cancel the contract as Supplier may deem appropriate, with no further liability to Supplier. The Supplier shall be entitled to withdraw from the contract if an application has been made to initiate insolvency proceedings or judicial or extrajudicial settlement proceedings against the Customer or the Customer‘s assets. The Customer may withdraw from the contract if the performance owed by the Supplier becomes impossible prior to transfer of risk as a consequence of a circumstance for which the Supplier is wholly responsible. Claims for damages for impossibility are limited by Section VIII. Where rights and claims of the Customer are not expressly specified in these General Terms, they are excluded.

Delivery deadlines and delivery periods are always only approximate. The Supplier‘s delivery obligation shall be suspended for as long as the customer is in arrears with a payment liability. Force majeure, breakdowns in operation, delays in delivery by suppliers, shortages of raw material, energy or labour, strikes, lockouts, difficulties in obtaining transport, traffic disruptions, orders by public authorities or the lack of governmental or other approvals required to perform the delivery shall release the Supplier from its performance obligations for the duration of the disruption and to the extent of its effect, as long as the disruption has not been caused intentionally by or as a result of the gross negligence of the Supplier. The Supplier shall also not be liable in the above circumstances if such circumstances occur during a pre-existing delay. In the event that the unforeseen circumstances within the meaning of paragraph V.3 substantially change the economic significance or the content of performance by the Supplier or have a substantial impact on the Supplier’s business, the Supplier shall be entitled to withdraw from the contract. The Customer in this case shall only have a right to a refund; any other claims, in particular claims for damages (including without limitation consequential, incidental or punitive damages), are excluded. The Supplier is entitled to make partial deliveries; partial deliveries may be invoiced separately. If the Supplier is in arrears with delivery, the Customer may withdraw from the contract if the Customer has set an appropriate final deadline for the Supplier and that deadline has passed without effect. If the delay is limited to a partial delivery, the Customer may only withdraw from the contract as a whole under the above conditions if the Customer has no interest in partial performance. Claims for compensation for damage caused by delay and claims for damages in lieu of performance are limited to the net value of the goods.
The Customer may transfer its rights under this contract in whole or in part to a third party only with the prior written consent of the Supplier. XI. Offsetting & retention The Customer may not offset the Supplier‘s claims against counter-claims of the Customer. XII. Data protection The Supplier is entitled to process and save data about the Customer that it receives in the context of the commercial relationship. XIII. Data protection Any and all disputes arising out of or related directly or indirectly to the commercial relationship between Supplier and Customer (“Dispute“) shall be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts of the State of South Carolina, to the personal jurisdiction of which both Supplier and Customer hereby irrevocably submit. All Disputes will be governed by the substantive law of South Carolina without regard to any of its conflicts of laws provisions. The United Nations Convention on the International Sale of Goods (UNCISG) shall not apply.

Risk shall transfer to the Customer at the latest upon shipment of the goods. This shall also apply to partial deliveries if the Supplier accepts the shipping costs or if the Supplier transports the delivery. Goods shall be shipped in all cases ex the Supplier’s works or warehouse at the Customer‘s risk. No liability is accepted for loss or damage during transport. If shipment is delayed as a result of circumstances for which the Supplier is not responsible, the risk shall transfer to the Customer on the date at which the delivery is ready for shipment. If the Customer has not specified particular shipping instructions that have been accepted by the Supplier in writing, the Supplier shall select the shipping method and route. The Supplier is not obliged to insure deliveries.

Seller reserves a purchase money security interest in the Goods until this invoice has been paid in full. To the extent the Goods are resold and title passes to a bona fide purchaser for value, Seller retains a security interest in the proceeds and products thereof, accessions and commingled goods relating to, attached to, or derived from the foregoing, or any records with respect thereto. Seller may file necessary forms to evidence and perfect such security interest and status as a secured party in any relevant jurisdiction. Buyer will execute and deliver all security agreements, financing statements and any and all other instruments which Seller may at any time reasonably require to protect its rights hereunder. The Customer hereby assigns to the Supplier as security all claims from sale of the goods sold. If the goods subject to a security interest are seized by a third party, the Customer must inform the Supplier immediately and provide a photocopy of the report on assets seized. If an application is made to initiate insolvency proceedings against the Customer or the Customer‘s assets, then the Customer’s power to resell, process, combine or mix the goods shall immediately terminate. If the goods are nonetheless resold, processed, combined or mixed by the Customer or the (provisional) insolvency administrator, the Supplier shall have the exclusive right to the proceeds of such sale in full.

The Supplier shall be liable for material defects in the goods as follows: If the delivered item is not usable or its usability is significantly impaired as the result of circumstances that are shown by evidence to have prevailed prior to the transfer of risk per section VI above (a „Defective Product“), then at Customer‘s request the item may be repaired or replaced, in Supplier‘s reasonable discretion . Replaced parts shall become the Supplier‘s property. If a Defective Product is repaired or replaced pursuant to this section, the existing warranty period previously applicable to the Defective Product shall apply to the repaired or replaced item, but the warranty period shall not be extended. Supplier‘s obligations as set forth in this section VIII.1(a) constitute the sole and exclusive remedy and warranty available to Customer for any Defective Product. OTHER THAN AS EXPRESSLY SET FORTH IN THIS SECTION, SUPPLIER EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, ARISING FROM COURSE OF DEALING OR USAGE OF TRADE, OR STATUTE, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE IMPLIED CONDITIONS AND WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, QUALITY, OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. With respect to all claims, whether for Defective Product, breach of contract, wrongful conduct or otherwise, Supplier shall not be liable for any special, incidental or consequential damages based upon breach of contract, negligence, strict liability, tort, or any other legal theory, even if Supplier is notified of the possibility of such damages. Supplier‘s maximum liability arising out of or relating to this Agreement, regardless of the legal theory, shall not exceed the contract price actually paid by Customer in respect of the goods delivered and related to the liability. Supplier shall not be liable for any loss, damage, detention or delay due directly or indirectly to causes beyond its reasonable control, such as acts of God, acts of Customer, acts of civil or military authority, fires, strikes, floods, epidemics, war, riot, delays in transportation, government restrictions or embargoes, or difficulties in obtaining necessary labor, materials, manufacturing facilities or transportation. Customer must inspect the goods immediately on receipt, and, if a defect is identified, must notify the Supplier immediately of such defect. If the Customer fails to notify the Supplier, the goods shall be considered accepted. The Supplier may refuse to repair or replace the goods while the Customer has not fulfilled its obligations to Supplier. The Supplier shall only be liable for public statements, e.g. in advertising, if the Supplier has arranged such statements and it can be shown by documentary evidence that the Customer’s decision to purchase was based on the statement. Warranty claims shall expire twelve months after the date of delivery. The Supplier accepts no responsibility for damage that has been caused as a result of natural wear, incorrect or negligent handling, improper storage or improper use or by misuse, or as a result of non-compliance with Supplier‘s instructions for processing or use. Returns of goods, including returns that are made on the basis of a justified complaint, shall require Supplier‘s agreement. Otherwise, Supplier may refuse to accept returns. Returns approved by Supplier shall be credited at the fair value, deducting the costs of inspection, repair and repackaging and a processing fee of 20% of the net value of the goods. Products that are no longer in our current range cannot be credited or exchanged. Delivery notes and accurate information from the invoice must be enclosed with each return shipment.
XIV. Closing provisions/severability 1. 2.
If any of the above provisions is or becomes void, the remaining provisions shall be unaffected thereby. If any provision is partially or wholly invalid, the parties to the contract shall immediately endeavour to achieve the economic purpose of the invalid provision by different, legally permissible means. All agreements or amendments between Supplier and Customer must be made in writing and signed by both parties.
