GLOBAL PROBLEM |

[law-gom]

swedish; adverb, adjective | “not too much, not too little”

Exploring the innovations of 3D print building technology as means of addressing a global housing crisis, Lagom embraces micro-living as a way of life. The Swedish principles of [law-gom] reject the ideals of consumerism by pursuing sustainable alternatives and balanced living. These principles extend from the home into the community through collaborative productive landscapes, minimalist design, and the thoughtful integration of the private and public realm. In addressing a housing crisis, Lagom seeks to recognize other compounding global crises such as food insecurity and climate change, considering the opportunity for micro-living to confront these intersecting issues and re-imagine a better future.

The phenomenon of “crown shyness” found in forest canopies was used to imagine how each micro unit comes together to form a cohesive, yet separate, whole.

SlimLine Water Tank

The 1,517 liter tank locally stores rainwater at each residential unit. Stored in a food grade polymer enclosure, this rainwater tank is connected to an integrated garden pump system where the water is used for on-site vertical and horizontal hydroponic farming. The water can also be used locally at each unit for toilet flushing and, when appropriately filtered, for washing, bathing, and drinking.

Kingspan Solatubes offer integrated natural daylight in the foyer, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, and workspace. Unlike traditional skylights, these compact light tubes eliminate glare and reduce solar heat gain while still evenly diffusing 99.7% spectral reflectivity light into the space. To increase energy efficiency, internally integrated UV Solar panels collect energy during the day to illuminate LED lights after sundown.
